Is Rainbow Power OP?

Okay, many have complained that Rainbow Power is way to powerful.  However, I think we're misunderstanding the nature of the powers.  They are powerful, that's for sure.

 

But think, how did it restore magic to everypony in Equestria?  It didn't do that for the mane six until after draining Tirek.  Check the scene again, it doesn't restore their cutie marks, it replaces them:

 

But, after draining Tirek, it was able to restore magic to all other ponies.  I theorize that it was able to counter Tirek because all the magic he absorbed wasn't entirely compatible with him.  I mean, he wasn't able to fly or warp reality like Discord.

 

Those are my thoughts on the matter.

Of course they are OP.

They are more powerful than the magic of almost everypony in Equestria + Discord + the 4 alicorns.

I don't think there will be something even more powerful than the Rainbow Powers in the show.

So were the Elements of Harmony. Discord, who's been shown as possibly more powerful than Celestia herself, was trapped in stone by them within seconds.

 

I think, like the EoH, Rainbow Power is something that is to be used only in dire circumstances

Oh, I am sure that in season 5, their will be some villan that comes along that can somehow negate the effects of the Rainbow Power, or maybe even extract the elements from them, leaving the elementles once again, well at least for a bit until they can regain them in someway, plus the 6 still need to be together in order for the power to work, so if some villan could just manage to seperate them, or kidnap one of the mane 6 (Twilight?) then they more than likely won't be able to do much.

It's pretty clear Rainbow Power is the replacement for the Elements of Harmony. The Elements were already really powerful to begin with, but Rainbow Power must have a lot more difference.

Rainbow Power is stronger in its effect, Its practicially Data Drain from Hack Sign XD. Any enemy you hit is reverted to another form. Can you imagine if Chrsyallis got hit by this? It would drain her of any emotion she had drained in her entire life and turn her into whatever she was before she was queen (probably a young changling, like Luna after being hit by the EoH)

I don't see why people should start declaring Rainbow Power oped when the girls needed to have the tree of harmony essentially give them that power. What the Rainbow Power showed was of how much more powerful the Tree of Harmony is over everything in Equestria. I mean Tirek absorbed every alicorn, pony, and Discord's magic but all the Tree of Harmony did was give the mane 6 Rainbow Power and all of a sudden Tirek gets his ass stomped by them.

Well, to put it simply, if the elements of harmony were considered "OP" and the rainbow power eliminated the most powerful threat to Equestria yet, then yes. I would definitely consider it OP.

I'm not too keen on the idea of having a fail-safe spell where you know that they can just go back and use it if something goes awry, Hopefully they can't use it again, otherwise.. well. that'd be craptastic.

Despite it being utterly ridiculous, compared to a lot of the goings-on in Equestria, it sits farther away from "OP" and closer to your average new-crazy-magic-thing (you'll notice those pop up quite a bit).

Honestly, this season's deus ex machina shenanigans were more grounded than I ever expected from this show. I didn't think we'd ever get an explanation for the Elements of Harmony beyond "it's the magic of friendship yay!" and then BAM! The Elements get a backstory. 

 

Since I wasn't expecting even as much world-building as I got, I'm willing to sit back and wait for more of it to come before making any definitive declarations.

Well, I suppose this is an exceptional point to be making. We can't really say for certain with the limited knowledge that we have on Rainbow Power. Maybe it's even a one time use or needs to be activated in some way.
