Can you forgive Discord after "Twilight's Kingdom"?

Just about since Tirek DID trick him into doing it otherwise he likely would of not and you could clearly see his sorrow of what he was doing..The return of harmony I understand at however he was and is spirit of chaos and it comes pretty normal so just about to be honest...

When he made that line about being magic and friendship, and having neither, that's all I needed to hear to know that Discord forever went to the side of good. He used to believe he needed to cause chaos to have fun, but he ended up realizing that all he needed was his friends (although he'll still undoubtedly show off his magic every chance he gets, but nothing wrong with that).

I think the Mane 6 played a big part in his permanent shift to good as well (well at least Twilight and Fluttershy). Twilight because she had him released and still considered him a friend even after he betrayed them, and Fluttershy because she never gave up on their friendship.

I think I can forgive Discord and that Fluttershy is doing the right thing. I just think he still has some of his "old self" in him and it will take a while for him to "become his new self". Discord makes me laugh, though. I like it when he's in the episodes, even if he does cause a little mischief!

I can understand them being suspicious of Discord, but the terms of him being ''reformed'' was that he was gaining friendship in return.

However, his reformation was not ''willing'' and was extremely forced. Had Discord not reformed or said '' hey I've changed I'm good now'' then he would have been turned to stone. Not only that but none of the Mane 6 besides Fluttershy, attempted to befriend or even test Discord and teach him about friendship, they treated him like a enemy and expected him to behave as if he was good.

Discords betrayal was his proper reformation as Discord got to see first hand what friendship truly meant and how his actions affected others.

You can't give someone a ''second chance'' or ''forgive them again'' if you never gave them the first chance nor forgiven them the first time, which was evident that the Mane 6 had not.

This. I don't even need to explain my opinion, you've already done it for me. :D

But I will add one point.

Discord may be good at acting, but there was nothing but pure shock at Tirek's betrayal. In is eyes, you could see. He felt absolutely horrible.

He was not reformed in Keep Calm and Flutter On. He simply realized that he may value something other than chaos.

It was Tirek's betrayal and Twilight's loyalty that caused him to realize that he should value friendship more than anything.

Yes, I can. I'm not defending him for betraying the Mane 6, but it's obvious he didn't feel any sort of debt to them aside from Fluttershy, which is understandable given that she's really the only one who made an effort to become his friend.

Now after Tirek double crossed him, he realized that the ponies were the ones he could trust, and I believe he is fully reformed now, and I can also forgive him.

I've already forgiven him.

See, the thing is, I never really liked Discord how he was before the episode. He was just so... mean. As I've expressed in other threads... I wasn't a fan.

Throughout all of Twilight's Kingdom, we saw the indecision and change that's been made in him. He has changed, he is willing to learn, he is ready to become a good guy; a true, true friend.

In the episode, Discord felt the legitimate pain of betrayal... of the deprivation of friendship... and those were no crocodile tears that covered his eyes when Tirek took away his powers.

Discord's learned, and he's ready to be a good guy, and I can accept this.

Welcome to the team, Discord.

  • 1 month later...

Well, if Tirek wanted he could easily have killed ponies in addition to taking their magic and I'm not sure if Discord would have even tried to stop him.

Plus, as someone who has been stabbed in the back by people I've thought were my friends only to forgive them and have it happen again...it will take some time for me to regain any faith in him.

His "Hey! Where is my throne!?" line also rubbed me the wrong way after all the damage he caused by helping Tirek.

Yup. He really had to learn what it meant to have friendship and lose it due to his own actions. So, yes, I forgive him... I don't forgive the writers for reforming in the first place, but that's a story for another time...

I think it's a lot easier to forgive him considering that, once he gave Twilight the amulet, the ponies were able to pretty much undo all the damage he helped Tirek do. No harm no foul, and all that.

Understanding why he did what he did also makes it a lot easier to forgive him. With the exception of Fluttershy, the mane six kinda treated him like shit, especially in the beginning of Twilights Kingdom. I don't really blame them, but Fluttershy was the only one to ever show him any compassion. So, Tirek's offer of freedom and the opportunity to be himself must have sounded pretty good compared to their halfhearted friendship.

Lastly, I think he genuinely felt bad about what he did and learned his lesson. I think being accepted by Twilight despite his mistake made all the difference. He's ready to go all in on the whole friendship thing.

I think should forgive each other, because you can always give one another chance.

I can definitely forgive Discord, because, honestly, I would have done the same if I were in his situation. (But I would always have been a snap of my finger away from turning Tirek into a porcupine. I would rather have betrayed him in the end than the other way round.)

And I believe he is reformed for good now. I probably would be as well.

I would.  Besides, I think the main reason why Discord took sides with Tirek was that most of the ponies didn't trust him enough, were sometimes fearful that he may pull something and we allowed our own fears to manifest into something worse.  In other words, Discord didn't betray us, I think we betrayed him.

Something else I wanna add.  Twilight found out that Discord betrayed everyone, but failed to tell her friends about it.  That resulted in the Mane 5 and Spike getting captured by Tirek.  I want to know what is up with that?

Honestly, who isn't to say that Discord planned this whole thing out. In Princess Twilight we see Discord planting those vine-things to "take the power out of the tree of harmony" yet he never knew what the elements could do to him. This makes me believe to a point that Discord can see the future, or at least predict it. Look at his actions.

1. he showed Twilight the secret to the locked treasure chest.

2. he gave Twilight the "test" in order to get her key to open the chest.

3. because of all of this Twilight found her "role to play" as the princess of friendship.

So yes I believe the Mane 6 made the right choice.

Of course I'd forgive him. I believe in giving people as many chances as it takes until they are truly redeemed. That, is true justice.

Also this, the necklace would not have worked as the key unless he was truly sincere.

Can you really blame him for what he did? Apart from Fluttershy, the Mane 6 wasn't excactly nice towards him. Despite the fact that he refrained from doing chaotic acts despite the absence of the Elements of Harmony!

I know I would backstab the bastards who keep being hostile towards me despite my attempts at being friendly.

Besides, he didn't expect Tirek would betray him and the damage caused by Tirek was fixed afterwards.

So yes, I think he deserves forgiveness.

He totally deserves a second chance

The main six (except Fluttershy) are all really hostile against Discord, for no reason. And then claiming that they are ''friends''

Honestly, I would have taken over the day the elements were gone

Well, remember Discord didn't want to lose Fluttershy's friendship which is why he "reformed" in the first place.

That's true, but he was really fast to trow that away.... as he should have done. The friendship (I'm using the term friendship very loosely, as nobody except fluttershy was really friends with him) made him weak, so he didn't thought that Tirek could betray him. The Discord before the reformation would have dissposed of Tirek before he got to much power
