Creating my own language for a story.
IceeBrony replied to Astral Blitzen's topic in General Discussion
It depends on how much effort you want to put into it. A lot of created languages just end up being cumbersome. I'd recommend either putting plenty of time and effort into it or only a very minimal amount of the language. A good 1000 common words and some grammar rules isn't a bad idea. Or just a couple displaced nouns and adjectives. If you fall in between, there are going to be inconsistencies. People love to point that kind of thing out For " zr' " are you saying that "ragxem" is like a sword or something and that "zr'ragxem" is like "person of the sword" thus meaning 'warrior' ? Similar question about " ky' " " kyzr' " zr' looks like it might be "person of..." and ky' might be "the place of...", so kyzr' could be "the place of the people of..." Is " Syz' " like a title, as "Mr."? " Za' ", " X'sk' " and "maux' " seem fine. I would be a touch concerned about being able to pronounce some of these. -
Interesting, now I'll have to find some one to play with in person I wonder how my gaming group would react? Cards Against Humanity got old and Kittens in a Blender has bland mechanics. Yes we are those people. Game of Things is still a go. On an unrelated note: meat curtains Thanks for posting this. I love games, and there aren't enough pony ones

How cheap are you? Or perhaps, how are you cheap?

I found myself making dinner tonight. And, for the second night in a row, discovered I was using old meat. A week and a half past the sell/freeze date. So what do I do? "Oh well, I'll just over cook it and it should be fine." My next thought: "No way I'm going to waste $5." I do this ALL the time. But usually only for myself. No way would I serve this to anyone. So, I figure we are all a bit cheap sometimes. Sometimes it's out of need, other times it isn't. Do you buy bargain or sales clothes? Do you save pencils? Refill your water bottles? Where do you pinch your pennies? For me, it's food. I have a bag of two month old crackers I'm finishing. Why yes, they are quite stale. I'm hoping for a bit of lightheartedness here, but what comes will come.

Fair enough I love Cyanide and Happiness. I know one girl who loves beets and unsalted mashed potatoes... Some people shouldn't be allowed to cook https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R5RvAKBci0

Things you want to do before turning 30?

That's down to taste. Some people need to be able to laugh at things they probably shouldn't. Humor is a bit of a defense mechanism. Dogs kill lots of people? 32 (in USA in 2013) isn't very many Next you'll be saying that pit bulls should be outlawed...

I think one of the ebola patients at Emory is improving. The other has only been there for like 2 hours. It looks like the current West African outbreak is only at about 55% mortality, and that's not with advance medical care. EDIT: As of 1 August 2014, the cumulative number of cases attributed to EVD in the four countries (Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone) stands at 1,603 including 887 deaths. source: http://www.who.int/csr/don/2014_08_04_ebola/en/

Actually it's 100%. And it already happened. We all died a few days ago. If you think you're alive, you're just a zombie. On the bright side, brains go really well with scrambled eggs All kidding aside, our worst enemies, as usual, are panic and ignorance. eg, licking used needles is a bad idea

I have a reason to hate needles... Getting stuck isn't bad, and donating blood is good for both you and society, but that experience was scarring to me. I've had a lot of blood drawn and I have great veins for it. The probing around for a vein isn't too bad either. A bit uncomfortable is all. But any time a needle goes in, I have to struggle to suppress my vagal response. Once it's in, I'm fine. I don't like it, but I can deal with IVs and the like. I've even been getting allergy shots, which has helped desensitized me. Maybe someday I can start donating blood. As a universal donor, I really should. And so should you! If you have a problem, my technique is simple: take a deep breath and tense up; then let it out, relax, and let you mind be blank. You only need a second or two, and then it's over. If it's an IV or something, try not to look at or think about it. Maybe bring a story to tell, even if no one but you listens. It's also an excellent time to practice relaxation techniques

There's actually some research that shows cool rooms are better for sleeping, 65-70o F roughly. It does change a bit person to person. As for me, I'm pretty indifferent.

Stupid things you believed when you were younger
IceeBrony replied to Fishy Stick's topic in General Discussion
I would play pretend a lot, still do. But I am just naturally curious. I would mix chalk together and try to make something new out of it. Like actually grind it down and add water to see if it would change into something else. So there weren't a lot of things that I would call 'stupid.' Some of my adventures in electricity weren't exactly brilliant, or chemistry for that matter. The single most idiotic thing I believed was that my parents cared about me. The next is that my teachers were helpful. It took me until I was 16 to figure those things out. I guess I should have known better when I was bed-ridden for 3 days and no one bother to clean up the vomit next to my bed. I did that on day 3 and then went straight back to bed for another whole day. I'm just glad I thought to get some water to keep bedside before I collapsed. And my teachers... Looking back I can see the signs, but I don't think I could have done any different without additional knowledge. -
web Would you watch Christian-oriented MLP analysis?
IceeBrony replied to Henny Penny Benny's topic in Media Discussion
Okay, good luck to you. Just go into it knowing that it's a difficult road. The 'conservative Christians' won't like it if you're not enough on their side. And the non-Christians with attitude will be flaming you, probably regardless of message. I'd recommend a good Christian review of something, but for the life of me I can't think of any Maybe look through some of the crazier ones to see what to avoid (the creationist museum misquoting Genesis comes to mind ). Also check out the comments so you know what you're getting yourself into. Finally, maybe brush up on the book of Galatians, there's some pretty useful passages there. As long as you know what you're getting yourself into, I say go for it.- 47 replies

web Would you watch Christian-oriented MLP analysis?
IceeBrony replied to Henny Penny Benny's topic in Media Discussion
I'm not saying that it can't be done. But it's extremely unlikely to go over well with anyone except nutjobs. You can, and people do, read almost anything into anything else. MLP:FiM could have a satanic analysis and still be accurate. That isn't the real hurdle here. The problem is that most people don't understand Christianity (interesting aside, spell check capitalizes Christianity but not satanic ). I mean look at all the 'Christians' that don't support gay rights, or women's equality. Even though the bible is clear on those points, explicit in the case of equality. Rather than saying that MLP has a Christian message, maybe say that Christian values are being shown. Love and acceptance are big points in both MLP and Christianity. Just don't be too heavy-handed. If you go to far, you'll only convince those that are already convinced, and push away all others.- 47 replies

Which pony do you think is cutiest?

I think this pretty wells covers it We use "man/men" interchangeably with "boy/boys" sometimes too. There's often a "girl's night" or a "ladies' night" but rarely (I don't know that I've ever seen one) a "women's night." Sometimes one word just sounds better than the other. filly filly kumquat pickle-barrel pickle-barrel CHIMICHERRYCHANGA! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wefF_UglT-Y
