  1. I'm sorry, but why would robots be impervious to magic? I really don't understand that.
  2. No, not really. Not because I don't like robots, I'm pretty firmly in the Transformers fandom too, but because I can't think of any way it would logically fit into the MLP universe. The kinda technology it would require just doesn't seem to exist in Equestria. We've seen some gadgetry, like the scene where Twilight Sparkle was trying to figure out Pinkie Pie's 'Pinkie Sense', but those seemed more of a shout-out to old school sci-fi shows than an accurate presentation of technology in ponyverse. Perhaps a golem? Those are pretty much the fantasy genre's equivalent of robots. Mostly they're like statues or puppets that are brought to life with magic, and have enough sentience to obey commands, but no real free will. Like the famous Mickey Mouse clip of Fantasia, with the broom that Mickey brought to life to carry water.
  3. In general, gryphons seem the be one of the most popular creatures of all fantasy genre. I've always liked gryphons, they were probably among the first fantasy creatures I learned about after my childhood unicorn and dragon toys. As I discovered the internet and started looking up fantasy art, gryphons were one of the most recurring themes I came across. Also, they seem to be among the most modifiable fantasy creatures with how many artists are drawing gryphons made up of other species than eagle and lion. In the pony universe, I think they are interesting because we were initially given so little info about them. All we knew was based on Gilda's appearance. Basically a blank canvas and a loaded paintbrush.
  4. My country (Finland) doesn't have either Halloween or Thanksgiving, so for us, after the 'back 2 school' sales on school supplies, it's like this countdown to when it's acceptable to haul out all the Christmas stuff. Be glad you Americans. Be glad.
  5. It's always this huge, cartoony ah-ah-ah-ahTCHOOO!!! I envy people who can sneeze as delicately as Fluttershy does.
  6. To quote a passage of Murphy's Law, 'Life is short, but a three-hour movie is interminable'. I think between 80 and 100 minutes is a good length. That's about four episode's worth of screentime, so it's plenty to tell a whole fulfilling story.
  7. I'm not sure who's my all time favorite pony, but I'll go with Twilight for now. "For Celestia's sake, calm down! You don't have to be perfect. Even if you're a princess."
  8. I'd say this sounds about right to me. It's like... Well, imagine there's a tall tower made of bricks. It needs to be knocked it down. Twilight could just blast the whole thing apart, but in the process would leave a huge crater in the place and probably send bits of brick and mortar flying everywhere. Starswirl on the other hand would inspect the tower for a moment, then knock away one brick from the base, causing the whole thing to collapse in on itself. Twilight has a lot of 'oomph' behind her magic, but Starswirl has enough knowledge to get the same results with far less effort.
  9. Monty Python, yyeeeeesssss... Ministry of Silly Walks, Dead Parrot, Confuse-a-cat, Cheese Shop, Upperclass Twit of the Year... good times. I wasn't too into Mr. Bean, but I love Rowan Atkinson's other work. I heartily recommend the sketch where he plays the devil welcoming new souls into hell.
  10. I got INFP, which for me was almost scary accurate.
  11. One of my own guilty pleasures is the animated movie Strange Magic. It's like every possible fairy tale cliche, set to a soundtrack that most resembles a broken jukebox, but I love it.
  12. Life's too short to pretend you're not into something that is generally considered 'weird'.
  13. So, guilty pleasures. We all have them. Is there a movie with a plot that makes no sense, but the main character is absolutely dreamy? Really catchy song by an artist you usually hate? Book that you can't bring yourself to finish because it's THAT BAD, but there's a scene that's written so strikingly that you keep returning to it? Character you can't get enough of, even if in real life you'd most likely want to strangle them? Gimme all those things that you like, even if you can't justify even to yourself why!
  14. Well, what's stopping you? If somebody decided that all fanworks that didn't adhere to canon had to be destroyed right now, about half of all the fan created content would have to go. You can make your own fanon, and its no less correct or plausible than someone else's.
  15. I once had a dream where I had two dogs. One was called 'Crumb' and the other 'Rag-Rally'.
  16. To put it bluntly, I can't see any way for that to end well. It's an interesting idea, sure, but I'm pretty certain there's just about a snowball's chance in a warm place of such a thing getting into the show. For one, it's basically asking for trouble. As a society we are slowly moving towards broader concept of marriage, but that idea is still so far out of norm that people would raise hell for it. Even in a series that was meant for adult viewers it would be seen as a cheap dig for attention via LGTB controversy. We are barely seeing minorities being represented in the 'all audiences' media, so something like this in a show meant for young children? Nope, not worth the fallout. And secondly, would that kind of thing even be feasible in the My Little Pony setting? Yes, they are equines, but they obviously live in a society that's very similar to ours. We've seen several married couples in the show, so we can assume that is the norm for ponies as well. There's really no way to introduce this kinda alternative relationship into the narrative casually. No, I think the herd marriages are best left to fanfiction.
  17. In a word, no. If romance movies are bad it's not because they're romantic, it's because they're bad movies.
  18. I don't think there's definite evidence either way. We haven't seen either of them taking part in that many battles, so we can't really compare them directly like "okay, Celestia beat character X, but Luna didn't, but Luna beat character Y, who had beaten X before, and they both fought character Z together..." And anyway... What's the difference? It's one of those fire vs water debates. Fire can burn a man to death, but water can drown a man, so which is stronger? Celestia rules the day and Luna the night, so by my logic the powers they wield have to be somehow fundamentally different. Most likely they both can do something the other can't. And since Luna's return, she seems to be perfectly content letting Celestia take the center stage, so it doesn't seem likely it will be relevant anytime soon.
  19. I don't know if the writers are planning to bring him in in any bigger role anytime soon, but if they do, I hope they give him some actual character development rather than just endless cameos.
  20. I'm not sure I really understand why this is such a big deal. One can joke about a thing they sincerely like. Twilight is probably my favorite pony, but I have no trouble making fun of her nerdy tendencies. But anyway, about Applejack: I think AJ actually serves a critical role in the group by being the most mellow and down to earth of the lot. In comedy, there is a classical character slot called 'the Straight Man'. 'The Straight Man' means any character who is standing in as the voice of reason, who underlines all the quirks of the various other characters by being serious and calm. Remember the line in the Grand Galloping Gala episode: "Beg pardon Rarity, but we don't normally wear clothes"? That's classic Straight Man. She's making Rarity's reaction seem all the more ridiculous by pointing out how silly it is, especially in such underwhelmed way. At least to me she's a welcome addition to a group that consists of so many big, overly dramatic personalities.
  21. I recently read a tumblr post that sums it up better than I could:
  22. I watched the original series when I was a kid way back in the early 90s. Years later, I started hearing about this new series all over the net and after initially wondering how a cartoon for little girls could have created such a hype, I decided to investigate. I went to YouTube, looked up the pilot episode... and a few hours later I realized I had watched five episodes in a row and couldn't get enough.
  23. If you start splitting hairs, many characters that are the main characters of their own series have qualities that are, by some definition, Mary Sue-like. They might have some big epic destiny, complete with a prophecy and all the bells and whistles. They may have amazing, never-before-seen abilities, unique physical features, turn out to be long lost heirs to ancient royalty, be the only one that is immune to a curse or plague that has fallen over the kingdom... The list is endless. But the point is, many of these things make for a good premise for a story. There needs to be something unusual about a character to make them worthy of telling a story about. it's only when this 'uniqueness' goes over the top that it becomes a bad thing.
  24. 1. Applejack - Like many have already said, she's gotten a very family-centric upbringing, and she's already a very parental figure to Applebloom. 2. Fluttershy - She's very caring and nurturing, but I suspect she might be guilty of being too soft at times. 3 - 4. I can't really decide if Twilight or Pinkie should go first, so I have to place them both here. Both have shown themselves to be responsible and caring when the occasion calls for it, but they both tend to get wrapped up in their own interests. 5. Rarity - While she visibly cares for Sweetie Belle deeply and is sometimes seen to take a parental role for her, she is very career-oriented and at times has shown pretty skewed priorities. 6. Rainbow Dash - While I don't doubt RD's good intentions, I can't see her having the kinda patience that is required of taking care of a child 24/7. She might be a better sports coach or big sister figure. Mind you, all of these only apply to the characters AT PRESENT. They might all be very different a few years down the line after they've had the chance to mature and fulfill their own goals.
  25. I didn't like Maud Pie. There was just... well, nothing there for me to like. It's probably an overused pun to say she has the personality of a rock, but it's accurate.
