  1. OK, so I got from this that nobody knows how the LAND OF THE PONIES was originally founded, but that it was lost in an Ice Age that caused the three tribes to migrate away, overcoming great hazards and fighting a war that was eventually solved by a series of coups that brought more level-headed leaders together who agreed a confederation, that in time came to have an over-king and be known as Equestria...
  2. Great Welsh name for a dragon, considering that dragons are the national symbols of Wales
  3. Were you Spike? I think the Mayor would be quite pissed off with him right now!
  4. I was trying to explain my desktop to this 65 year old guy who came into the office. Eventually I had just to say "Its magic ponies" and leave it that. He thought I was nuts!
  5. Just started reading "My Little Metro" - its so sad!
  6. Her ponies have to learn to help themselves, and learn from their mistakes. Like a good teacher or parent she can't always be interfering to do it for them
  7. It evolves of course. I still lerve Applejack, and Seafoam is Most Beautiful Pony even with her rather deep voice, Twilight is fantastic pony and Applebloom and more recently Scootaloo are emerging as great characters. Cheerilee's nice too
  8. I have a few that I watch again and again so they're probably my favourites! Over a Barrel, Party of One, The Best Night Ever, the Discordian duo, The Cutie Pox and now Secret of My Excess which has been constantly playing since I downloaded it
  9. Another great episode, full of wonderful things! All the Mane Six were great and the focus on Twilight was great after so many episodes where she plays second string. I liked how the bad thing was all in Spike's dragon nature which he has to deliberately fight against in order to remain in control of his sentience. Similarly, we see Rarity's generosity at the end when she helps Spike out of the guilt he is feeling, when in essence she states this very fact, that Spike isn't himself when he was on the rampage and that only Spike reasserting himself saved them all, despite downplaying her own role in breaking through to him in doing so. There are so many good things about this episode - Twilight's determination to wash Spike's cheek, her magicking him back each time he runs away; the background ponies getting official names; Seafoam's beautiful walk-on piece; the Wonderbolts being used as air cavalry; Lyra and Bon Bon; Cheerilee being walked into; places and beautiful ponies all around Ponyville - I liked the water tower, June Bud seems a nice pony tho I don't recall her from before; Rarity being seized in her home by a giant unknown dragon through her window, its all great! There are some excellent visuals; Twilight is drawn beautifully, her teleporting, her galloping, her expressions are all perfect. There's some great humour too, like with the doctor saying he knows the problem "He's a dragon" then "Well, that would explain it!" and the vet is funny. Pinkie's "I'm not giving him cake, I'm assaulting him with cake!" Applejack lasooing her and Twilight to the tree after the cool "Twilight, get my rope" and the excellent visuals of them running with it. Rainbow's amusement is typical but funny, but she clicks back into serious mode when Fluttershy screams. "Why would Spike steal my chickencoop?!" Applejack towing a shell-shocked Pinkie backwards. The civil emergency alarm. Its all great stuff! "We'd be ever so grateful if you'd possibly consider it" is a nice piece of Fluttershy dialogue. "Which as horrible as it is, I can almost understand because you're a dragon and all..." Rainbow's "On it!", grabs Fluttershy and whoosh to the rescue! I am intrigued by the Spike-Rarity scene as they fall perhaps to their deaths, Spike confessing he has a crush on Rarity, Rarity putting her hoof in his mouth, but tearing up as she does it... Best regards Lupus
  10. The other night I was ill and there were ponies all over my dreams, mainly Rainbow and Pinkie for some reason
  11. In fan terms I'm ancient. Why do I like the show? It makes me laugh, the characters are fun, its very quotable, the animation quality is great, the music is generally great (the horrendous pet song aside), the plot is generally enjoyable (I watch it for the plot!) and well, its NICE, you know! That said, I like some episodes other people don't, and I dislike some which everyone else seems to like, but I put that down to my age That's exactly the order I did season 1 eps 1,2,3 season 2 eps 1 and 2 season 1 the rest season 2 as it is released Best Regards Grey Wolf My personal favourites are not always what other people like so might be useful in that they give a different perspective? Apart from the openers for both seasons (the 2-parters) there's Over A Barrel from season 1 and The Cutie Pox from season 2
  12. Rarity is not bad in this episode - its the other ponies pretensions which are, and if they fail to be lived up to, then its their fault. All these posh ponies who only look to appearances, who are determined to control here, they are the problem with their demands, rather than Rarity with her wishes and dreams. I don't like the images of her coiffured mane tho, her mane needs to flow It IS kinda funny she went on holiday with her pet cat - I've not seen that ever outside of France Very Important Pony - VIP ! Twilight is cute in this episode. Pinkie is sweet - funny when Pinkie bounces in! Twilight about the dress is also so nice, she is cute pony! Pinkie's party cannon made me laugh - laughter is good, party cannon is good! Twilight is lovely in her "very smart" to Rarity. Rainbow Dash is actually very funny in this episode, getting over being stuck up her own ass the previous two. Rarity's final decision is brave and what her element is about - generosity when it is a sacrifice or an effort. And I think its Fancy Pants who shows himself, like Hoity Toity in a previous episode, able to blend his twin roles in life and appreciate Rarity's skill. Its very funny when the other posh ponies all follow his lead, false to their own prejudices but focusing on his leadership. I'd give this an 8 out of 10, not least because it contains lessons we all need to learn
  13. That was my overwhelming thought! I knew it was going to be her friends somehow, but it was quite fun. Scootaloo was cool in the Club Tardis. The moralising at the end went on just a bit long tho! Best Regards Grey Wolf
  14. Rainbow Dash has to EARN her coolness; she isn't cool just by existing, and, similarly, looking really pretty is not the same as being cool. Looking really pretty makes great screenshots. Being cool makes great animation. I never liked Owlicious. The episode where he first appears was absolutely fantastic - right up to the moment that he appeared. If he had simply helped Twilight then turned around and gone it would have been an excellent episode, but that he stayed and we had the whole Spike jealousy story just made it "meh" Playing with pets - its a nice thing to do, but hardly the hook for a great episode. Lesson Zero, Luna Eclipsed and The Cutie Pox all had great hooks, whilst Sisterhooves lacked one, but even then it had what to my mind is a powerful formula - Applejack plus Applebloom. That's why I would watch Sisterhooves again. This episode had what precisely? Rainbow looking pretty, a race between animals we'd not met before? A tortoise who was so obviously always going to be the winner? The worst song of the entire series? Up to now, The Staremaster had pretty much been my worst ever episode, but even that one would probably have scraped a 5 out of 10, even if by rounding up 4 1/2 to a generous 5. This pets one was just so DULL it is worse than that by a significant amount... And OF COURSE it is all personal opinion. For reasons that I cannot even begin to fathom some people do not at all like The Cutie Pox whereas for me it was a 9 out of 10 episode, one of the absolute best that the programme has achieved. For me both 2-part season openers are 9/10 rated, as would be such classics as Party of One, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, The Best Night Ever, and my personal favourites like Over A Barrel and Call of The Cutie. Maybe it comes down to best pony. There was an interesting poll done on favourite of the Mane Six, favourite secondary character and favourite background pony. For me these are Applejack, Applebloom and Seafoam - and The Cutie Pox ticks all the right boxes, as well as showing Scootaloo at her best, in terms of both animation and characterisation; I am always open to seeing a character I initially loathed develop until I absolute love her. In terms of characters what did "May the Best Pet Win!" have for me? Virtually nothing. The ONLY moment I laughed was when Rainbow told Twilight that was why she would not make a good pet for her and petted her on the head - the ONLY moment I laughed, whereas many another episode is hilarity all-through. And there was no pathos at all...no that's actually not true. There was about 2 seconds pathos when Rainbow was trapped by her tail under the rock, and doomed for ever - but you KNEW that the bloody tortoise was going to come and rescue her, so the power of the moment was so absolutely completely missing. On first watching, an episode should be full of fun and surprises, but this one had neither. I am not disagreeing that VISUALLY there were some good moments, but as I said those are screenshot moments, not animation moments. They would make a nice background or a cool picture, but not be part of a good story. Given how pretty a pony Rainbow can be, even the dullest moments of her life are bound to be visually interesting, but they don't make good animation. Rainbow having a dump, Rainbow washing the dishes, Rainbow reading a book - they would all be visually interesting, but they would not be great animation. And I did not WANT to find this episode so dire. After the fantastic achievemet that was The Cutie Pox I knew not to expect another 9 out of 10, but to dive so low as to be a 3 out of 10 was to take contrast to a ridiculous extreme. I would have expected perhaps something a bit dull but on the whole interesting enough like Sisterhooves Social, but May The Best Pet Win was just...awful (to quote Twilight from The Best Night Ever) Best Regards Lupus
  15. In pony terms, I found this episode absolute crap. Of season 2 so far I'd give the two-part opener 9/10 each, Lesson Zero 8/10, Luna Eclipsed 7/10, Sisterhooves 6/10, The Cutie Pox 9/10 and this.....this thing 3/10
  16. In Manehattan, the earth ponies all have their high society, so they're not all downtrodden producers of food.
  17. Yeah, the "nephew" thing was all because in Rarity's fantasy in IIRC The Ticketmaster she's on about the Princess' nephew and the visual is the pony which later on, in The Best Night Ever, is the one she hooks up with. But her fantasy was a generic one, hoping to find her prince, whilst when she found him he never said that he was related. Its like I go to London and dream I meet a beautiful princess and in my mind I've got this vision and I name that vision, and when I go to London I do meet this beautiful princess, but she's not got the name I named her, even tho she may match my dream
  18. I can't vote! You haven't included Seafoam, and she even had a speaking part now Without ticking an option on the third poll it won't let me post, and I'm not going to choose anypony above her on that poll
  19. This episode was hilarious! I don't know if that was the intent, but loud guffaws were the order of the day "My sister's speaking in Fancy!" Applejack and Scootaloo had great roles "Was your zeebra-sense (a)-tingling?" lol Pinkie was lovely! And Applebloom fun - and Scootaloo is characterised really well this series I love the ponies' sense of wonder "Wohhhhhhh!!!", and the fillies gallopping theme tune at the end was great Seafoam was a wow at the beginning too, always nice to see mah favourite pony! AND SHE SPOKE!!! Tho she did sound rather male... I'm guessing it was Scootaloo's VA? Lupus
