music Anypony else just despise Christmas music?

I'm not a fan of Christmas music either. Most are too meaningless and too cheerful. The only ones I can tolerate are John Lennon's Happy Xmas War is Over (due to it being meaningful) and Christmas Canon.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

I find most Christmas carols beautiful and I like the mood they make in my heart.

BUT.

I just can't stand when they stuff all these songs down my throat by playing the same songs over and over in my radio! THIS is what I hate in Christmas music. Not the musics itself, but how they force it into me.

Especially when 99% of Christmas songs my radio plays are American classics, when we have so many beautiful Polish Christmas carols. But no, they won't play Polish songs. They won't even play German or Russian or French or even Icelandic. It is always American ;P Blaaargh!... ;(%%% <throws up>

I wonder if Americans, for a change, play foreign songs instead?

I guess not. So if you're looking for some new (for you) Christmas music, then perhaps it would be a good idea to try these? Here are some examples of Polish Christmas carols:

(There is a playlist overlaid on each video, so turn the annotations on if you want to skip over the playlist quickly.)

Don't know about you, but I find these to be beautiful. Especially "Gore gwiazda Jezusowi" in this version.

Neat! I don't listen to much Slavic-language music, but I love songs in other languages and I really enjoyed most of the ones you posted. :) I think "Wśród nocnej ciszy" was my favorite :squee:

Lol "overplayed" yet people were in LOVE with gangnam style and thrift shop...

I don't hate it, and I don't hear it that often. I don't stay in stores that long and I don't listen to the radio so I'm pretty much out of range of any christmas for the most part. And it doesn't bother me anyways. Too cheery? Y'all saying that makes it seem like being happy is a bad thing, and it definitely is not.

The sad thing is the whole thing is monetized, so that answers any questions as to why the hell christmas music starts playing as early as november.

Try working a retail job during the holidays. You will grow to despise Christmas music with a burning passion.

Speaking of which a lot of songs that originally were sung in other languages tend to be translated into English and while they do sound good in most cases they tend to sound better in their original language. Two prominent examples of this are Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful) which was originally sung in Latin and Oh Tannenbaum (Oh Christmas Tree) which was originally sung in German.

I have been working retail for 7 years and still don't necessarily hate Christmas music, I am a little tired of the ones they actually do play. Most of them are about Santa, Frosty and what have you while most of the Christmas songs I like are the ones that are a bit more of the religious persuasion like Silent Night, O Holy Night, and Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful).

Sure thing. The most universal Christmas carol is "Silent Night" (originally "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht" in German, but originated in Austria). It has been translated to so many different languages, including Polish. I bet there's even a lolcat version somwhere ;D (If not, I dare you all to make one ;) )

Yeah, every language has its own unique melody and rhythm, which can sometimes be lost in translation.

I didn't know that, thanks.

Christmas music does not bother me at all. Not as much as the movies do.

Tell me about it... :P It's already a tradition in Poland that at Christmas, one of the main Polish TV stations (Polsat) shows "Home Alone". EVERY - SINGLE - YEAR! ;/ They so much used to it that they even make jokes about that themselves: that "Christmas without Kevin are not Christmas at all" :P

You're welcome ;) Glad you enjoyed it. Translation of the first few phrases:

"In the middle of a silent night, a voice can be heard:

'Get up, shepherds, God is being born!

Hurry up and hit the road, go to Bethleem,

to invite the Lord.'

They came, and found, an infant in a crib,

with all the signs they received,

so they praised the Lord, and when they did,

they shout aloud with cheer."

Many traditional Polish carols are related to folklore and shepherds, probably from historical reasons.

Some songs I like, but others I just can't stand. But the worst one of all is "Up on the Rooftop". I. CAN'T. STAND. THAT. DANG. SONG.

We never play Christmas songs on Christmas half the time anyway, so I guess that's good.

Some of it can be really irritating, but I don't hate it.

To be honest, there are types of music that I find much more irritating. Where I work one or two people take control over the radio, and it's always either the same short playlist of cheesy 80s hits or another one that is country. I'd much rather them turn on a Christmas station, because at least there would be more variety there and it wouldn't be the very same small selection of songs we have to hear the rest of the year.

Seriously those two genres are some of the most dreadful choices, too. Play the worst Christmas music, if only to give me a break from that awful music.

I work retail, but don't despise it... Try working where I work... You'd want Christmas music.

I don't really despise it so much as I get burnt out on it. I don't hear it in the malls and stores as much though. I bet someone who works at these places hates Christmas music with a passion.

I hate most Christmas music.  There a few unique songs that I like, but I listen to them when I feel like it, not just during the Christmas season.  But I hate all of the stereotypical, traditional carols.  Overdone, cliché, annoying.  More than anything else, though, I just hate society's conformity to traditions.  It's just the same damn thing, every year, year in and year out.  I really don't care for traditions in general though.  I do what I want, and what has meaning for me.  I don't follow traditions.

I cannot stand it. Especially that one by Paul McCartney.

However, there are two exceptions to this:

This one got a Christmas No.1 in 2009 in the UK, so I'm counting it as a Christmas song.

I actually enjoy Christmas music when it is well done.  The classics like you will find in a Catholic Midnight Mass or something done with a lot of artistic skill like Manheim Steamroller are always excellent.  Unfortunately, most of the airwaves and shopping outlets are filled with this Christmas flavored pop music garbage that is feels like your having your ear canal raped.  Too many artist just shove lines like "Christmas", "Santa", "Winter" and the like into an already poorly executed pop song, and if that wasn't bad enough, the non-stop repetition starting in November does not help.
