Windows 7 vs Window 8

Dsanders

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about downgrading my new Lenovo Yoga 2 11 laptop, which comes with Windows 8 by default, to Windows 7. Is Windows 7 really the best version of Windows? Or how about the Windows 8.1 update? What do you think?

I would greatly appreciate your input.

I'd go for Windows 7, Windows 8 just doesn't feel right, (and is very much designed for touch screens).

Well, actually I'd ditch Windows and install Linux, but you probably want to keep Windows.

Believe me! In the Lenovo Yoga laptop, Windows 8 is better, this PC is designed for this Windows, if you downgrade this Windows to 7, maybe many things will stop to work... but you can update to Windows 8.1, is much better than Windows 8 and have things of Windows 7

I prefer windows 7 myself, but I don't think I can downgrade (At leaast, not easily..) and if I could I probably would.... Windows 8.1 isn't too terrible though. Just.... Not as good as Windows 7. :P

Windows 7, the speed improvement of windows 8 is hardly noticeable and if you upgrade from windows 7 and see a huge speed improvement then that more than likely means you had a lot of junk on it in the first place.

I’d go back to Windows 7 personally:

Although before making a final descion, if you know anyone who has 8.1 perhaps ask if they can lend you a try on there computer to see how you get on with 8.1, and it should give you your answer.

If above isn’t an option I’d just stick 7 on:

On my old PC, I had Vista when it was new and I downgraded to XP. And even if it wasn’t the latest O.S. I never found a reason to upgrade, it was only because my new PC had 7 on it that I’ve ditched the old XP (although I probably would have up graded by now if I’d still got my old PC to be fair).

I'd personally go for windows 7 as its a lot more...usable... WIndows 8 is a lot more... "sparkly" as it was made to look a bit more like IOS style-ish

Also If you want a more "professional" approach try these sites

But you should consider he fact that downgrading may mean ceratin pieces of hardware on your laptop won't work as there might not be win7 drivers for it

Windows 8 has a lot of great features but they are unfortunately much more difficult to use without a touch screen though Windows 8.1 addresses most of those flaws quite well. Of course I can understand why someone would prefer Windows 7, back when Windows Vista came out I didn't like it and decided to load Windows XP on my then new desktop (my current desktop has Windows 7).

eh, once you wrap your head around 8.1, you can continue using it like you would 7. There are third party launchers available for 8.1 which bring back the traditional start menu, so the biggest flaw with the OS can be solved fairly easily. I don't use one anymore because I have all my most frequently used applications pinned to the taskbar.

All in all, there's really no point in downgrading because 8.1 has some nice extra features (such as ISO mounting) and you can make it work the way you want using easily-available third party software.

Actually I think yours already came with 8.1 :squee:

And yeah honey you might as well keep it. Your laptop was optimized for Windows 8, especially the touchscreen so you might as well just keep it -_- But sadly from what I've heard, Windows 7 is still better :(

Going back to Windows 7 might be complicated... If I had to end up with a computer with Windows 8 I'd probably just stick with it for that reason. I just don't hate any OS enough to feel that it is worth that much trouble.

If you think your computer will still work if you downgrade, go for it. In my view, Windows 8 was a direct downgrade from windows 7, sacrificing computing power and reliability for looks and user-friendliness (which dumbed it down to the point that if you know how to use a computer it's just insulting).

Or you could just wait for the next windows update, they say that they're gonna pretty much bring back 7.

Meanwhile in Microsoft studios.

Random employee @microsoft:

"Ehm, that doesn't look like an Operating System"

CEO @Microsoft:

"We were making an Operating System?"

PC gamer @Home:

"Somepony needs to put this thing out of it's misery"

Although I work with a Win 8 computer. :P

Stay with Windows 8.1. Your laptop is a touch screen and 8 was made for them. Windows 7 sucks on touch screens, seriously.

Also finding drivers might be a pain. The 8 drivers will probably work but still. Lenovo won't help you with that.

The biggest complaint I hear from people about 8, 99% of the time its the lack of a start menu. Install Classic Shell and don't look back.

Interesting ... it seems like classic shell would be my best bet. Thanks :)

The cluttered UI is among my most hated things in regards to anything visual. Cannot stress enough how annoying it is to have to horizontally search for programs on a screen that's just.. cluttered

The "ease of access" is really "easy to annoyance". I would rather click my mouse a few more times to get to my destination than have a popup try to escort me through a bunch of useless nonsense.

It's the equivalent of "Can you get me a water?" "Sure, tap or pre bottled?" "Pre bottled." "Normal or Sparkling?" "Normal" "Sweetened or Unsweetened?" "Just get the damn water."

So yeah, I like Шindows 7 more. Remember the Microsoft Rule, people ;)

I like 7 better. Less nonsense. ;)

I like doing what I want to get done without having to play a puzzle game in the process.

Oh and by the way, Windows 8 reminds me of something...

... aaaaanndd both of these things accomplished what exactly? (besides looking annoying)...

Hasbro really reminds me of Microsoft sometimes. Look what Microsoft did to Office over the last 10 years.

Maybe now might be the time to switch to Apple?

Honestly? It depends on what would you like your computer to be able to do. Certain work environments benefit more from windows 8.1 due to it's extended support and more frequently updated software. Win7 is a bit simpler and more user-friendly (in my opinion anyway) which makes certain tasks easier.
