Basically, a human trainer pulled one of a Ninetails' tails, and as the Ninetails was about to curse the trainer, his Gardevoir took the curse for him. However, the trainer selfishly abandons Gardevoir, and then there's some spoilery stuff but basically Gardevoir has a very motherly, very guides-you-along-the-right-path kinda personality.

Well, you could also see it as a knight trying to protect the king/protect the kingdom by leading the hero on the path to save the world and ultimately making a huge sacrifice in that Ninetails story to save it's trainer like a knight would save his king

Maybe not conventionally chivalrous but that does display a kind of wisdom and loyalty that still makes a good character.

I kindasorta liked the story in Blue Rescue Team, it was a bit predictable and clichéd at times, but it was okay I guess.

That makes a whole lotta sense.

Don't look up Gardevoir on Google Images. Just trust me.

I wouldn't be too worried about searching Gardevoir via Google Images. After all, Safe Search is a thing.

I think I might be the only person who is indifferent about Rule 34 of Gardevoir.  :wau:

What's funny about the whole Gardevoir fandom is that it was supposed to be based on a knight. Its Japanese name is Sirknight, even.

I suppose you got a point. While it certainly has traits of a knight such as loyalty and protection, I'd say it still has its feminine traits, from the hairstyle to its Mega Evolution. Gardevoir reminds me of a guardian angel than anything, but it's no wonder why its gender ratio is 50/50. But if anything Gallade plays the whole knight motif a lot better.

It sort of reminds me of how many people debate on whether Mienshao looks masculine or feminine. Personally, it looks feminine in my eyes, even though it's heavily based on a monk.

Mienshao definitely looks feminine.

(edited)

Masculinity or femininity is one of the first things I decide on when I first see a Pokemon.

Bisharp? Dude.

Alomomola? Girl.

Gardevoir? Girl.

Mienshao? Girl.

Machamp? Dude.

Sableye? Dude.

Aromatisse? Uhh....

I've even assigned (in my head, anyway) most genderless Legendaries a gender. Some are more obvious, like Mew, Celebi, or Ho-oh being female, but there's some other ones, like Reshiram, Xerneas, Dialga, and Kyogre, that I also think of as being female, and Yveltal, Groudon, Palkia, and Giratina being males.

I don't really assign genders to Pokémon, unless they're guaranteed to be that gender. I usually refer to them as "it and its" when I'm speaking about species as a whole. If it's something that is guaranteed a gender, like say Ash's Pikachu in the anime, then I refer to them as the proper gender. I get thrown off really easily if I don't refer to them as gender-neutral.

Oh yeah, it's probably actually Bisharp, clearly the actual most awesome Pokémon :please:

I have a question to the people in the thread: Do you sometimes feel like playing an older Pokémon game because of something new that you wanted to try in those games?

I still haven't fucked around with all the glitches in generation I, if that counts.

How can you do that?

I mean I usually just play the latest game because I like the new locales, story, and pokemon.

I do that because I sometimes want to see how it fared against the test of time.

In RBY, I only play it because I still need to experiment the multitudes of glitches that are in the game.

  • 3 weeks later...

So I just completed the Pokédex for the third time. As of now, I have completed it in X, Black 2 and most recently Alpha Sapphire. Although it isn't easy, I still have heaps of fun completing it, no matter what game I'm playing.

For some reason, I like trying to get them all as there is a lot to do to achieve something like this, from levelling up Pokémon, to using items or even using using Poké Transporter to transfer some Pokémon from one generation to another. The amount of tasks is what makes it fun, at least for me. It's long, sure, but it's so satisfying when you've worked on it for so long. Depending on the game, I also like the little rewards that come with completing the National Pokédex. Especially the Shiny Charm, I just got a Shiny Pokémon because of it not too long ago.

Has anybody completed the Pokédex before? If so, how did it feel when you've completed it? :3

I've been playing this game since generation 1 and not once have I completed the pokédex.

Just too lazy to do it...

I'm waiting for Hoopa and Volcanion to be released before finishing the dex.

I completed the X and Y living national dex about 2 years ago and it felt amazing. It took about two months of egg hatching, replaying previous pokemon games, power leveling... The hardest part was getting slurpuff and swirlix because there were no fair GTS trades available for them. I wasn't trading my mattle ho-oh for a puffball I only want for pokedex completion. The GTS is filled with horrible deals, but sometimes you can find something awesome (like a shiny lugia for a medicham)

Never really had the desire to do so. I prefer to build a strong relationship with a few core pokemon rather than have an army of options to choose from. Partly because I'm indecisive and know I would agonize over that many possibilities, partly because I prefer to be a specialist and do one thing really well rather than everything kind of well. Mostly though because I prefer to have pokemon that I care about as friends and allies and that's made easier when their is less of them, at least for me it is.

Interesting! For me the hardest Pokémon to obtain in whatever Pokédex I'm trying to complete is the Porygon line. Finding Up-Grades and Dubious Discs is no fun, and the GTS does have many unfair deals. Because of that I usually have to do a lot of trading and item finding between myself, as I do got some spare Nintendo DS'.

When it comes to the GTS, I always have to make pretty fair deals. It certainly isn't easy especially if you're trading something precious away, but if there's something that's just as worth it than it's a good deal. Sometimes I usually wonder if there are other people besides me who make some nice offers.

I've never been one to trade or try to complete the Pokedex - I like to breed and make competitive 'mons. But, I'm also willing to obtain them via trade Imagine my surprise, then, when the one time I attempt a trade on the Pokemon trades subreddit, I was ignored, because I didn't have picture proof of my legitimate shiny Latios' capture. All I wanted was a competitive Latios in return, too!

I don't really trust the GTS with him, either. I can't tell what IVs the offered 'mon has, or their nature. How do I know I'm not getting jipped?

But that's neither here nor there. I was able to get him on my brother's Omega Ruby file. Defense IV of 15, which is decidedly meh, but he's got 31s in the other four IVs and is Timid, so he's already bossin'.

...I didn't really want to let go of my shiny, either. He's my second one ever (first one was a Haunter in FireRed), and took three days of SR'ing to find. I still feel bad for keeping him in the box, though.

I think I'll name him Beryl.

I digress. Completing the Pokedex is tough if you don't have all of the games of a generation, something I don't have the money to support. I know you can get them with wonder trading and with the GTS, but I always feel like I don't have valuable enough 'mons to offer in return.

@@Lateon,

Just to prove a point at how differently people play these games, I have no idea what half of that meant!

It's almost like three people could all be playing Pokemon but actually be playing three different "games."

Well, it could be worse. It could be like Team Fortress 2, where people are typically playing 6 or 7 different video games at once on the same server.

I think you are mistaken of my intent. I say that as good thing not to the game's detriment.
