Will we all be fans in the next gen of MLP?

I don't think FIM can be topped...at least, not by another mlp series.

After this series, I feel like the franchise won't come back for a LONG time. I mean, how will they follow up after such an incredibly popular and well-made show? I don't think it's possible.

Maybe I'll work for Hasbro after I get my illustration degree...

I wonder if the next gen will be so friendship focussed like the current gen is? Just because the current gen is 'Friendship is magic' doesn't mean the next gen will be.

I hope there are some male mane characters too next series, MLP Tales had 3 main male characters who were just as much main characters as the girls, its a little weird that MLP went backwards in one way since the 90s. (I blame G3, that had no male ponies what-so-ever, not even background male ponies)

If there is a G5 then at best it will only have token service of G4 in much the same way G4 did with previous generation. Don't expect it to be the future setting of G4. It will have a new premiums with a new setting. At most you can hope for is them recycling the names from G4.

I would hope that the positive critical reception of G4 would encourage Hasbro to actually put time and effort into G5's future show and actually be good but we can't be sure.

I would hope that the next gen would be good but I don't really think that I would be all the excited for G5 to be honest.

Wouldn't be surprising to see the MLP franchise go back to pandering to little girls and lacking substance after our favorite show ends as sad as that would be.

If they make huge changes in the show style, I might not be willing to stay around.

I mean, come on, the lack of Woona would already be a huge blow for my poor soul. I don't need further changes ;-;

It’ll be interesting to see where the franchise goes next, it could be another show like FIM or it could be something else that’s radically different and unexpected like a live-action style movie instead of a cartoon show or something, who knows?

As for liking it or not, I can’t say as I’d have to see when it comes out.

For now I’m happy enjoying G4.

It depends. I've always considered myself a fan of FiM rather than MLP because the earlier gens don't interest me(though I acknowledge them, do my homework, and respect them and those who like them), and all of my love and energy has mainly been focused on FiM. I may give it a shot, but whether it's good or not, I don't know if I'll have the same dedication to it like I already have with FiM

I want there to be another show when FiM ends. I will give it a genuine chance to shine. Of course it can't be too similar to what we have now or it wouldn't be its own show at all really.

It would be sad to see such a lack of ambition take place.

I don't know, that would depend on whether or not it's even any good.

Completely agreed. In all due respect, unless it's about like the current generation of ponies, I'm unsure if I'll be as big of a fan if even one at all.

Well, that's quite a long time from now. I imagine I'll still watch it in the future but really it's not even something that I'm concerned about. ^^ Plus, who knows what gen 5 will be like. They'll keep the same art style I'd imagine but that's about all I can think of. :P I'll just have to see when it comes out!

I agree with this and the before quoted post as well.

Gen 5 will most likely reprise the designs from gen 4 with slight alterations and, most likely, completely new characters.

I'm imagining a Littlest Pet Shop scenario. Where they will basically try to copy what they did with a previous show, or gen in this case, and end up failing. With reason being cause it either lacks that charm, or its simply not as good as it's predecessor.

As with what most people said I will not leave until I see a show (assuming there is one). If its good then great 10 more years of pony! But if not then I will be very very sad and, more likely than not, depressed.

Honestly, I don't know. I like the current generation of MLP as it is, and it's already confirmed for a sixth season and a full length movie in 2017, so we'll be with our current ponies for the little while. I don't know why they'd move this generation out, especially since it sort of blasted out of proportion with the fan following, Hasbro never expected the results they got when they launched FiM. Which is probably why it's still rolling along because many of us disturbed adults watch the show/EG movies.

I'm not sure. I'm no fan of prior generations and I still don't like them much even though I tried to since this generation. If the next one continues to deliver quality, likeable characters and a lot of fun, then I will be a fan of it even though I'm fairly certain I'll be one of those people who will always think this generation is the best because it means so much to me.

If there is another gen of mlp, the fandom will probably split into two groups. One who does like it, and another that says it's not as good as the MLP FIM. That's just my theory.

I would imagine that Hasbro would want to carry on the G4 legacy, but no generation is the same as the previous ones. You can pretty much expect Applejack and Spike to be in it. They were in every other generation. I think, much to a lot of the fan's dismay, they are going to keep a cast of mostly ponies with maybe a dragon to tag along. No griffons, no deer, no draco ponies or whatever they are called, nothing like that. Just ponies with cutie marks.

Unless they are stupid, they wouldn't make it unbearably girly. A lot of bronies cannot handle change, so they would be turned away from the show at first. If hasbro hired a typical brony to create it, I probably wouldn't like it. Call me gay or sissy all you want, but I like the girly stuff of MLP. A typical brony would just remove everything girly and forget about the fans who fit the demographics (Little girls.) Of course, Hasbro would disprove of it. I think they will make g5 girly enough to appeal to little girls but not so girly that it turns off the older audience. Just like with g4. I think they would learn their lesson of g4's popularity. Now if Hasbro ups their game for g5 and improve the quality of the toys, that could also benefit them.

The character designs will not be the same. It will not take place in Equestria. A lot of the characters will not keep the same names. G5 will not follow G4. In fact it will take place in a completely different universe. If those changes turn you off, then you will not like G4, and you most likely do not like any of the previous generations either.

Hasbro tends to change generations every ten years, so MLP still isn't due until the 2020s. Every change is a risk, so naturally, no matter how good or bad it is, there will be some pushback. Just like there was at the end of Season 3 when Twilight became an alicorn, and just like at the end of Season 4 when the adventure elements of the show got bigger.

Withholding judgement until the actual product comes out, the simple answer is that it's not possible to keep all of the fans. Change to the show causes change to the fanbase. However, just how much gain or loss there is in transitioning from this generation to the next one depends entirely on how good the product itself is. Hasbro has pretty good incentive on upholding many of the themes that made G4 great because of the fact that it is the most commercially successful iteration of this franchise, and the feedback this fandom gives may be enough to get Hasbro to realize what made G4 successful and what to apply to G5.

I will definitely take a look at G5, if/when it does come out, just to see how much of G4's themes would be upheld, what would be improved upon, and what could be, to see if it will continue G4's success.

I'll probably be a fan of the next generation of MLP, because I'm a fan of all the generations before this one.  Except G3.5 (ignore those 4 g3.5 ponies on my shelf).

In all honesty, I've promised myself that MLPFIM will be the first -- also the absolute last -- fandom to join.  I found a lot of happiness with the show, but it went down hill with S3.  That's my fault since I became too entrenched in the show.  Also, with time, I've felt that personalities with some fans have soured.  I kind of don't blame them from one perspective, yet, on the other side of things, I don't believe they were fans of the show to begin with.

Another thing that's left me a little sickened is the elite mentality of things with stories, art work, and the like when people try to get things onto sites like EQD or on the featured box of FimFic.  Unless you a person is very skilled, has people to review their work to give critique, etc..., you're kind of hosed.  Overall, I might give the next gen of MLP a once over, but I won't be joining the fandom that surrounds it if one does happen to spring up.  As the saying, paraphrased of course, goes, "you either die a fan or live long enough to become a hater."

No matter what happens, we'll have FiM-Lovers who'll hate the next gen the same way Genwunner's hate anything that isn't first-generation

Or maybe it'll be Gen 3 all over again

Or was that 3.5?
