Pinkie Pie is Sleipnir

Pinkie Pie is Sleipnir, descendant of Loki.

(Sorry if I'm late to this, but I was thinking about this since I saw Friend In Deed and this was too much fun to write)

Background:

Loki is the Norse mythological god of mischief and chaos (Think Discord). One of his alleged talents was shape shifting, and he took the form of a mare to give birth to Sleipnir.

Svaðilfari is Sleipnir’s biological horse father. He is a steed (work horse).

Sleipnir was born a foal with some unusual properties, due to the whole shapeshifter chaos thing. Sleipnir would later be owned by the powerful Odin and used for war.

Explanation (The Pinkie Connection):

Born with 8 legs

Sleipnir's most defining feature is having eight legs. In “A Friend in Deed” Pinkie Pie holds up six legs while her hind legs appear not to move. If this is correct, six and two make eight legs.

“Okey Dokey Loki!”

We’re all familiar with Pinkie’s catchphrase, right? Why else would she mention Loki? She is swearing upon her father.

Color?

post-2368-0-09814000-1334082429_thumb.png

In some sources Sleipnir is depicted as being grey. This may not seem to make sense because Pinkie Pie is clearly pink. However, as seen in “Party of One” she gradually loses her color and becomes darker when she is unhappy. This is similar to how everypony loses their elements in “Return of Harmony.” Pinkie Pie turns grey upon losing her laughter, Twilight turns grey when she loses her friends, etc. Pinkie would be kept from utilizing her element, and would not be the bright color she is today.

Past

We know very little of Pinkie’s past. Sleipner’s horse father, Svaðilfari, was known for his remarkable strength and was used to find and haul rocks to build walls. This ties in to the collecting and rotation of rocks on the farm and her father’s cutie mark. The depression of the rock farm could easily be a metaphor for the darkness of her earlier years. The sonic rainboom is what enlightens her, possibly to realize her independence and stop being used by her rider. Choosing to spread laughter instead of war and destruction, she later starts a new life in Ponyville.

Sleipnir is quoted to be “the best horse among gods and men” (Pinkie Pie is best pony).

Utter Disregard for Laws of Physics

Pinkie’s ability to break the fourth wall, screw with space and gravity, defy physical expectations and even contort her own shape are the traits passed down to her from the god of trickery and mischief. Even Discord himself admits that he likes Pinkie because of their similarities.

Someones been doing their homework. ;)

I'm not one for Norse mythology (I prefer Greek mythology), but that's really interesting. Maybe you've actually found a backdoor to what the writers have been referencing her to in the back of their heads, or maybe it's coincidental, but either way nice referencing :3

I thought the same thing, but I'm sure they just meant it as a comical effect rather then directly tying to a mythological god.

I love you! <3

This is an awesome theory!

I love norse mythogy and I love Pinkie Pie. Please, oh please, let someone write a fiction or draw some fan art based on this.

yay.

I don't necessarily believe she was intentionally written like that; Pinkie's craziness is probably cartoon expression, it's just much more fun to come up with explanations like this. :P

This comic is the closest I've got to fan art of this neat little theory.

Very nice!

And that's why i love her. I personally like her abilities to defy gravity and physics.

I think that's why we all like her.

Hmm, interesting! Though, I don't think that was what Hasbro intended, but it is a good connection, and it makes a lot of sense!

Great adventuring for great treasures!....Except when I'm hurt...
