A quick question about the Maud Pie fanbase

Some see appreciate the deadpan and dry vocal delivery (see Raven). Some see her as an avatar for neurological conditions such as autism. Some love the juxtaposition between her and Pinkie. I've heard many reasons and they are all pretty interesting and valid.

I like Maud Pie because, her character stands out from the crowd, that type of bland personality is impossible to miss when surrounded by candy colored happy ponies. She especially stands out compared to her sister who is so hyper most times.

She is very interesting character with relatable qualities in todays society because, lot of people these days put on this mask and don't act and are bland like me for example. Bullies want reactions but when you are like Maud they are not getting any

I don't like her, but the number one reason I've seen is that she seems so emotionless and delivers comedy so deadpan that it's funny. She definitely stands out from the crowd as well since she seems kind of dull compared to more hyperactive ponies like her sister Pinkie Pie.

I seriously think Maude's comedy is the best from any character in MLP, especially when pitted against Discord's comedy. There's just something about her cool, reserved stoicism that makes the wit that comes from her the best form of comedy that slapstick or puns from the more animated characters can't compare to.

You can't argue that a cool cucumber like Maude just unflinchingly roasting the friggin LORD OF CHAOS without batting an eye was the funnniest setup in all of MLP thus far

Many fans mistake her dry and sharp as a razor sense of humor as NO sense of humor. I think Discord learned the difference!

well, Maude has undoubtedly learned from the best (comedy master Pinkie Pie)

Bet Discord will be feeling that burn for a long time to come ( maybe we can get an episode with a goof off between him and Maude, next) XD

Maude's razor sharp humor is only- and appropriately so- rivalled with Pinkie's, in my opinion. Though on normal occasion, in her natural element, Pinkie isn't that funny to me, but in contrast to Maude's cool, collectiveness, it's more when Pinkie snaps that she becomes funniest (in "the last roundup" through the whole chase scene- especially as she's yelling at RD and Flutters to get AJ, the "party of one" meltdown, and when she gets mad in "pinkie Pride") namely.

I agree with this and that's why I like her too. She's a very original character compared to the others, and it's refreshing to have a bland character in a show where most characters are happy and extrovert.

I don't care much for Maud myself. I think she's a bit of a gimmick character.

That being said, I do appreciate the relationship she and Pinkie share. It's clear that they care about each other quite a lot.

Maud is a refreshing dry character with a dead pan delivery, and she makes for a nice stark contrast to Pinkie Pie's shenanigans. She is both dull and entertaining and is one of the better secondary characters the show has made. She is anything but a gimmick.

It also helps she was featured in two very good episodes, and a had a nice little blurb in Rainbow Rocks.

I really am in the majority when I say I gravitate towards offbeat characters that have such a personality that seems to live and enjoy life their own way, acting and speaking in such a unique manner that no other character would and conveying a sense of not wavering in who and what they are. It's why I liked Pinkie Pie a lot when I first got into the show; she didn't react to things the way everypony else did. She did it her own way and it was a lot of fun to watch.

It's the same with Maud, except her mellow attitude contrasts with Pinkie's hyperactivity. There is another subset of people who gravitate towards that mellow, flat delivery just as they do to Pinkie's. I enjoy both very thoroughly.

It works as a plus when you can have biting sarcastic humor delivered through such a character, because of how it portrays a "normal" person's reaction to ridiculous events, and that's what she got in "Make New Friends but Keep Discord".

I love Maud Pie because her relationship with Pinkie Pie (a pony I feel extremely relates to me) is very much like the relationship I have with my older sister. :) My sister is a bit of a Maud too- though she doesn't have a rock obsession. So seeing Maud and Pinkie interact makes me very, very happy.

First things first: I like your avatar.

Second things second:

^ This.  While I still favor the energy and enthusiasm of other ponies (and one in particular), Maud manages to stand out by being, well...  Neither energetic nor enthusiastic. xD  Though she does infrequently demonstrate moments of incredible speed and strength; at least, concerning the latter, where rocks are involved lol.

1-She's Pinkie's sister

2-The show only had Marble and Limestone Pie as the known siblings for Pinkie for a long time, so, the sudden existence of yet ANOTHER Pie sibling can't go unnoticed

3-Her Raven-like voice and dry personality gave the show a character who's outside the usual brighter and cheerful eccentricity

I never saw Maud as either boring or unemotional.  As she herself stated, she just doesn't show her emotions in the same way as others do; it doesn't mean she doesn't have them.  That was kind of the whole point of the episode.

I like the contrast between her and Pinkie Pie, as she said admitted she dosen't express her enthusiasm like Pinkie Pie does but it dosen't mean it is not there. Maud is very different from the other ponies in the show and she opens the door to future characters who may not necessarily be villains or antagonists but don't necessarily approach things the same happy go lucky way that most of the ponies seem to.

Her deadpan often neutral seeming expressions and monotone voice often make you wonder what she is really thinking, it is sort of a similar appeal to Big Mac who many fans often wonder what he himself is thinking through all the "eeeeyups" and "nnnopes"

Maud is also relatable to many fans including me because her unique approach to things often results in misunderstandings. A character like Maud dosen't come up very often in MLP and has a great deal of potential to be a very deep and interesting character. Despite the differences between her and her sister they love and accept each other for who they are and seem to understand each other even though certain others may not get always get them (especially Maud).
