Okay first, I don't see what's demeaning to furries here if that's the vibe you're getting.

Furries are literally fans of anthropomorphic animals. The internet famous term "furry" is not in use by the general worldwide population. Therefore it's better to go with the more formal term "anthropomorphic" (something far more likely to be found in your average home dictionary). I believe it's wonderful to expand the populace's vocabulary like this, and it adds a certain dignity to the concept that hasn't been put much in advertising before. And it shows that the creators have done their homework.

Second... Rated R and by Pixar? Disney-happiest-place-on-Earth-owned PIXAR?

Buddy, that would have never, ever happened. I don't mean to be rude since I came to the same conclusion about my artist career as you a couple years ago (and it is hard), but yeah... You could have gotten it done by some other studio, or made your own studio, but R rated is not Pixar or Disney's wheelhouse. Disney doesn't do anything that can't be enjoyed by the WHOLE family. PG-13 maybe for their live action stuff, but nothing higher.

I guess.

And by pixar animated I meant Pixar quality done by another company unaffiliated with Disney and the actual Pixar. The last animated movie I seen that was rated R on the big screen was Cowboy Bebop the movie. That was an anime. It was a legit release at an AMC movie theater and not something at an Alamo Drafthouse.

Ah, okay, I gotcha!! I thought that's what you might have meant after I posted.

And of that note I really need to see the Cowboy Bebop movie.

Didn't know it was R rated though. The show didn't seem very R rated.

This movie just sounds really promising. I've been wondering about it though. How would you all prefer to see this movie? Would you want it to be done in 3D as most of Pixar's movies have been or would you want to see this in a hand drawn comic sort of styling? I am honestly leaning on wishing that they would make this movie in that older art style to be honest here. But I suppose it just comes down to person to person. I mean there is nothing wrong with the 3D animation it's just almost every Disney movie these days are being made like that.

What are your thoughts on this?

When I first saw an image from the movie, I wasn't sure I liked the art style, but it's certainty grown on me a lot. I'd say it's probably best how it is.

I'm still going to see this. But after having my dreams crushed by realizing the movie industry is a nightmare and I don't want to be a movie producer/director anymore. It's a little disheartening that a movie that I was similarly planning to make would be made. When I first heard about this, it sounded fun. Then they had to shove the "anthropomorphic" education teaser trailer. As if to say (at least how I interpret it) "we know this is a furry film but we are not going to say furry in this furry film... furry"

The film I had in mind was something similar but rated R and pixar animated. But no. We can't have western animated big screen films with blood in it, because animated films are for kids (as I have been told time and time again).

I can't help but facepalm at that post. How were your dreams crushed? Are you just too lazy to do what you do best simply because of some hard work involved? That's just pathetic. I'm sorry if that sounded rude, but that's what you sound like you're saying. Like what ShadOBabe said, you could just go your own way, making your own studio or something. Don't just give up because of a few setbacks.

Also, since when did R-rated gore and the like automatically make a movie good? I'm sick and tired of this immature mentality that's plaguing our culture. "Maturity" shouldn't come at the cost of shoehorning unnecessary excessive "adult" content just to get childish people like you to watch it. As a Brony, you of all people should know that something can still be kid-friendly without losing quality. I shouldn't have to tell you this!

Looks genuinely entertaining with some good animation and comedic writing. Jason Bateman as a con artist fox definitely sounds like it could work.

I just came from the theatre, where I had an early viewing Zootopia, and I was blown away, it was so good, it was worth the wait. I will not spoil it for those who have not seen it yet, despite some countries got it before us, or spoil it before the official opening day, but this movie was everything I wanted it to be, good humour, well animated, fine morals, and dramatic, you really bond with the characters as you enter their world, of predator and prey animals, evolved into anthropomorphic sapiens, as they came together to build a city to unite the species, an animal equivalent of Rome or London. I will say the plot of the movie reminds me of the Legend of Korra, Book One: Air, when Korra journeys to Republic City, a place founded by Avatar Aang, to unite the element nations and create harmony after a hundred years of war, she goes to find the airbending master Tenzin, who also voiced one of the characters in Zootopia, but when she arrives, Korra finds herself in the middle of anti-bending sentiment, for the non-bending citizens feel that the benders are dangerous and elitist, at the centre of the discourse, are the equalists led by Amon. Zootopia is entertaining and informative, you have a lot of feels for the furries, you feel their pain, you want them to be all right, you want to see them in peace, I love this movie so much, and I am not saying that because I am a furry, I am saying that because this is a movie, that anyone can and must see, so if you are a furry or not, Zootopia is the perfect film for anyone a fan of Disney animation, check it out you might be a fan too.

I just saw the first showing of Zootopia in theaters tonight, and let me say, it deserves every ounce of hype and praise it's gotten! You know it's great when you're left stunned and speechless long after it's over like you've gotten off of a great roller coaster ride! In fact, in a lot of ways, it is. It's easy to follow and is full of exciting twists and turns from start to finish. If you haven't seen it, go see it!

With my initial opinion out of the way, I suppose I should go ahead and answer that infamous question that's set the entire Internet on fire: Was Zootopia made for Furries? Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. But honestly, who cares! While there's no doubt that Disney has been giving Furries an unusual amount of recognition, especially with this movie, there's plenty of stuff for everyone in the movie, regardless of whether you're a Furry or not. Why does it matter if Furries watch and like the movie, alongside other "normal" people? What's wrong with the movie "spawning future Furries"? Guess what, idiots, if people are going to watch it and be fans of talking animals in general, then that's just that. After all, that is the definition of Furries as a whole (nowhere is it required for you to be a pervert/manchild/whatever stereotype you can think of). What's wrong with that? The fact that people can come together to appreciate stuff like this should be celebrated, not shamed. And yes, for the record, I do consider Bronies at large to be subdivision of Furries, but that's beside the point I'm making.

Everything about this movie works. The story and the message it conveys are pure gold (and surprisingly not politically correct, especially for a Disney movie), the characters (including the villains) are all eminently likable and relatable, the world-building is immersive, the acting is spot-on, the visuals, the music, and everything else just plain works.

The story is surprisingly easy to follow, despite being full of big reveals and intense game-changing turns. There are a lot of plot twists that will make your eyes widen. There are some real tear-jerker moments, as well. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Never did I ever find myself confused or stumbling into any plotholes or anything of the like. The movie had me completely engaged, only for it to get even better when the entire concept gets flipped on its head halfway through the movie. That's right, the movie, which would've already been good enough, decides to 1-up itself halfway through, and continues to do so for the rest of the 108 minutes! That takes some serious nerve! If that isn't a sign of a good movie, I don't know what is.

Well okay, I'm not going to be too overly positive, since there were a couple major plot twists that I did see coming from as far away as the beginning of the movie. But honestly, they didn't bother me one bit. In fact, they were all places I was actually really hoping the movie would go, and it did! How many times can I say that about a movie; that it actually fulfilled what I initially thought was just wishful thinking, during the movie?! As it turns out, that's exactly what the writers were doing, according to some articles I've read. Apparently, as the writing progressed, the writers came up with the aforementioned game-changing ideas, and finally decided "You know what? Let's go there!" and it worked perfectly! Granted, the movie can be a little bit too preachy at times, and yes, there are some elements to the story that do seem a tad familiar at times, but even then, it's done so well that I don't even care if it's been done before, because it actually works, as it's done in such a different way that I might as well be seeing it for the first time.

I keep comparing Zootopia to riding a great roller coaster, because it really is, in a sense. It has the grandeur, the excitement, the immersion, and everything you could ever need to keep you at the edge of your seat. It takes you on a wild ride from the very minute it starts to the last second. It's just that good. I really don't care what mindless labels naysayers try to slap on this movie. For a film about the harmful nature of stereotypes, the most ironic thing people can do is shove it aside as "just a kids' movie", or "pandering to Furries", or anything else. It doesn't change the fact that Zootopia is a great movie and whether people like it or not, it's here to stay.

I think the 2nd trailer kind of revealed the whole movie so I don't feel like watching it.

That's why I tend to stay away from a lot of the excessive promotional content. It has a tendency to leak spoilers like a broken faucet.

Anyways, it's a great movie with a lot of depth. So much, in fact, that it actually makes me want to see the movie in theaters again, if only to further analyze everything I could have possibly missed, as I now know what's coming, with all the plot twists and the like, and see what the general audience looks like, since I attended the earliest screening (5 hours before March 4, which is said to be the real release date), which only had about 6 other people in the theater.

I just rewatched it today. Since it was actually on the literal release date (March 4), the theater was much more crowded. Needless to say, there are definitely are a lot of subtle details that you notice when you know what's coming that you otherwise wouldn't catch when watching it for the first time.

I just thought it was going to be decent going in, but was pleasantly surprised. The animation and humor was great, and it was a shade darker than I thought it was going to be. The whole "appealing to furries" thing never really distracted me, as it was a great film regardless (I really don't care about furries, one way or another, you do you and whatnot). It was a little predictable at times, but honestly, that's kind of what you get with Disney most of the time.  :dash:

I saw it in theaters today, and I absolutely loved it.

It is now one of my all time favorite Disney movies.

I was looking forward to it for a while, and it even managed to be better than I hoped for it to be.

From the characters and how the relationship between Judy and Nick develops, the theme of the movie, the beautiful animation, the great use of foreshadowing, continuity and callbacks, the incredibly creative setting of the movie, and how the movie uses predators and prey as a metaphor for real life racial issues, there is just so much to get invested in.

I highly recommend Zootopia.

I loved it, too! The humor was spot on (especially the scene with the sloths at the DMV, the Godfather spoof, the animalized versions of Disney movies, Clawhauser in general and the surprise Breaking Bad reference), but it could be super dark also in regards to prejudice and stereotyping. And damn, the "savage" predators were kind of scary, too! Judy Hopps is a great main character, too and I loved her relationship with Nick the fox. I was kind of surprised there wasn't a joke about "What Does The Fox Say," what with a fox being one of the main characters, though. Maybe too on the nose? Also, loved Shakira's/ "Gazelle's" new song "Try Anything." Very catchy.

Just got back from the theater and I don't want to sound like a broken record, but it was amazing. Everyone's already said what I would have to say, but who cares. It was great, and you should definitely watch it. Hard to say whether Big Hero 6 or this is my favorite movie now. I can't even describe how I feel towards this movie, it was just so great.

Same sentiments. Just got back from watching it. Good movie. I hope it becomes the next Frozen.

Also, that opening scene with Judy. And the Ketchup. You know which one. I can imagine that become a gif/meme for certain things.  :nom:

best Disney movie by far.

It discusses a lot of important things when growing up in our world now in all forms of discrimination on basis of sex or race or history, playing to fear and mindless sheep, it's something I recommend to anyone
