The 2000s Nostalgia Thread

Zoraxe

Recommended Posts

I made a thread about the 90s, and the 80s...

the-90s-nostalgia-thread

the-80s-nostalgia-thread

So I figured "why not make a nostalgia thread based the first decade of this millennium?" So lets do that, lets talk about the decade that most of you guys were either children in and/or were teenagers in. Talk about TV, movies, music, trends, all that stuff.

Animation was rather notable, in that the american cartoon industry boom of the 90s continued into the 00s and then declined as the decade went on. Same with anime, there was a big anime boom in the early 2000s that busted by the end of the decade. This was the decade of invader Zim and Haruhi. Classics.

Back in the early 2000s when I was born in 2002, I would watch this almost nearly all the time:

Along with American Dragon, the Emperor's New School, and other Disney channel cartoons. I grew up with the old Disney channel a lot.

I think this version Batman had my favorite version of the Joker.

3 things that summed up the 2000s for me

I remember getting my Gamecube on christmas, good times. My first gamecube game ever played was Paper Mario 2 I think, or was it Metroid Prime?

Who Let the Dogs out? that is the million dollar question

Oh geez, that song. That song was in like a million different movies.

Remember this song!?

Yeah, that song was everywhere, and super anoying too.

There was plenty of good music too, this was the era of Greenday. But also Sum 41.

I should watch some more of that show, I remember liking what I did watch back then. I should rewatch Jackie Chan adventures too, that was a good cartoon.

Ah yes, the 2000s... The years which made an anime about freaking tops possible and awesome.

I think I still have my beyblade collection in the attic. I remember having this illegal round weight disk that made anything attached to it stupidly offensive and unpredictable. It was a fun fad while it lasted.

I remember bumpin' the Baja Boys in my Mom's then-new 2002 Chevy Impala. "Hey Mom, these Pioneers have wicked bass!"

You want to talk about a song that was everywhere back then:

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Around this time I would have been playing Gran Turismo 3 GT Apex on my Proforce steering wheel hooked up to my brand new Playstation 2 ( replaced a final edition Sega Genesis). I'd have been wearing a Hawaiian-print Pokemon shirt with blue Spike It gel in the front of my hair.

Also, did anyone else wear Gecko Hawaii shirts back then? I remember wearing those EVERYWHERE.

I remember going to watch Star Wars Episode II in the theater and thinking that most of if was boring, but loving the chase scene in the beginning. I remember playing with the neons green chunks of pure plastic sweetness we called Super Soakers back then every summer. I remember watching almost all the animated shows on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, and Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network. I watched everything on Boomerang back then, which was mostly retro 60s and 70s Hannah Barbera stuff. I wasn't a big fan of what I was living in in the midst of it, but looking back, I am glad I was a part of the early 2000s.

I loved pretty much everything on Cartoon Network but Teen Titans was my favorite.

Spongebob Squarepants was literally the only show I watched on Nickelodeon. I've seen every single episode before season 5. I've even watched the pilot on tv!

Roller Coaster Tycoon was the only game (excluding flash games) I had on my computer when I was little.

I also remember watching my brother play games like Shadow of the Colossus, Ocarina of Time, Okami, etc. on his Playstation 2/Gamecube. He never let me play though. :P

I used to play on Miniclip, Nitrome and Kongregate all the time. I've even managed to 100% some of my favorite games on those sites.

I seem to recall that in 2008 emo & the scene kid look was very popular. You still see the emo look but scene not so much. Also around that time Maplestory was very popular and I was playing it back then. Now everything is different and has way too many classes. I also graduated high school in 2001.

That theme still takes me back to Christmas 2002 (yeah, I was a year late), but it kinda started a tradition of playing halo (or one of its sequels) around the holiday period :D

And of course:

Oh my gosh... Just... wow... This thread has brought me more nostalgia than I thought it would.  Almost all the things mentioned this far I remember.

---

Back before I got into rock music, I used to be real big into pop/hip-hop music, or whatever genre they call that.  Lol.

Remember back when Usher could actually sing?

Oh yeah, this song was amazing.

Despite mostly being a "90s kid", the 2000s are where its at for me! I'd say it was the best decade for a lot of the media, I like.

Especially games. The first half of the decade was loaded with games I loved! (roughly in order of release):

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Pokemon Gold/Silver and later Crystal

Paper Mario

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Animal Crossing

Super Mario Sunshine

The Sims 2

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Mario Kart DS

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum

Mario Kart Wii
