I'll be the first one to say that I've been guilty of this... saying I was going to leave but only because at the time I was not feeling great at all. Not handling how I was feeling very well and the like but I've quickly realized how bad I handled those times too.

OT

The majority of people have left either because they have gotten sick of the drama here. Some have left because they have felt this place has changed drastically since they have joined and it has to quite a degree since I joined myself. That and some have just grown tired of this place and have moved onto other things in their lives. I've stayed here this long because it's nice to have something as a social outlet for me and ever since I graduated high school making friends has been a real struggle for me.

So all in all there is nothing wrong if people want to leave. It maybe a bit sad especially if you've made a lot of friends and they are no longer here but it's inevitable for the most part.

Well there's a number of reasons people might leave, generally ranging from lack of interest to real life issues. People get bored of things all the time and that can include internet forums, I doubt there's any particular reason people leave in these cases. Generally speaking the high numbers of inactive users are nothing to worry about, for every user that leaves a new one joins. No this forum won't go until the actual fanbase behind starts to go (and even then it'll put up a fight).

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

is there something that offends people about the forums

I'm not even going to talk about this lmao

I will say though that there are many good things and people here, but unfortunately I don't like it here anymore. I'm only really here because of one person, and through lurking around here again I decided to post again a bit for old time's sake. I do like tons of people here but I'm able to contact most of them off-site even if I don't remember to regularly. But there's no way in hell that I'm sticking around MLPF permanently.

There is no definitive reason to why many may leave, there are numerous possibilities to it, but I will say that I do notice a decent number that just randomly lose interest in the show entirely at some point, which I find that kinda odd. The fandom has its problems for sure, some that really irritate me, but I still love this show beyond belief.

The websites where teenagers are most likely to peruse goes up during the summer and goes down during the fall, in my experience. I suppose the main reason is forum populations are dominated by the waxing and waning of  free-time available to young students in technologically developed western countries.

I am now attending a Technical Institute for Engineering studies. Schoolwork takes 10 hours out of almost every day of the week, sleep and other necessities take another 10. The remaining four is often eaten up with making sure I'm on task, checking other websites and chatting with friends. MLPforums by comparison is fairly low on my "priority list" of time-wasting venues. This is my little microcosm.

I've noticed, and it's hit me pretty hard actually.

Way over half of the people I used to talk to regularly until recently actually have just been... non-existent? People I sometimes see around the forums now that used to chat with me aren't doing so anymore, and I don't see them post hardly anything.

A lot have been busy these past few months I guess, or people are just simultaneously feeling MLPForums lost its luster. I'm definitely thinking this is just a point in time though that will pass soon. I've actually seen one member come back from the dead today.

People have their reasons I suppose... I have no real interest in joining other places, so I'm here for the long haul. It would seem age is a prim. factor as well as how long someone's been on the site. It's always nice to have those that do come back - even if it is just for a small amount of time.

OK, I keep seeing people who are leaving or have already left the forums, and most of them don't tend to explain why. With that, I'll cut to the chase: is there something that offends people about the forums, or do that many people really lose interest in ponies after a couple of years. Is the fandom's turnover really that bad?

Hello there topic creator @Attack of the Pwns who last visited December 24, 2019. Have you left the forum yet yourself?

If I first join a forum and it seems dead then I’ll leave.

If a forum dies overtime or it just gets boring then I’ll leave.

If the environment is toxic then I’ll leave. There have been some forums when after I left, I became much happier.

People leave for various reasons.

Not interested in whatever the forums about anymore.(Certain music artists, games, etc)

Issues with other users or the way the site is ran.

Just got busy and forgot the forums existed or forgotten their log in.

There’s tons of reasons why people could leave,

Frankly, I've been considering leaving here for a solid couple of years now.

I keep wanting to leave here but I never do and I don't know why. I really should already have left this site, I don't really have that much of a reason to be here anymore.

I have no interest in the show, I have stumbled into more than enough drama on here, and well my interest in the community is very heavily waning. I guess it's the 3 or 4 people I really have any interest in that might be part of it, but I still am very much thinking of just logging off for good and calling it quits on here. It doesn't help that my experiences with this community have been uhh a lot less positive than they once were back in the days of my original account and even in the early days of this one. I already barely visit anyways, and pretty much only do so when I don't have another place I can use to vent or some other similar purpose.

There are many possible reasons why someone is leaving a forum. Maybe the user just have lost the interest in the subject, the user has not found what he was looking for, personal differences with other users or real life reason prevent the user to further invest him/her in the forum etc.

For befriended user always sad, of course, but it happens.

If you're talking about making threads and profile posts about leaving, it could be that person has a lot of social circles on this site alone and they wouldn't want to disappear without letting their friends know why. Or it could be the person wants some attention and 'threatening' to leave is their way of asking for it. But if you mean people just not having logged into their account in a long time, that seems the most organic way of moving on from a forum in my opinion. People get bored of something and/or find something better and just move on.

Sometimes people get occupied or sidetracked with other things. Life can be demanding and things like hanging out on the forums can get lost in the shuffle. I don’t come here nearly as much as I used to, but I still show up from time to time to post and get caught up a bit. I’m not planning on disappearing altogether because there’s enough reason to drop by to justify it.

That's life of most fandoms that appear on the Internet. They blow up, become big, but fail to survive for long. And the fact that bronies, at one point were facing a steady decline directly affected activity on mlpforums. People move on, some too caught up with real life (especially when they finish education and work replaces education, even more when they start a family), some simply bored with the website. Reasons for being bored? People they hanged out with here left, site became less active, the list goes on.

Let's face the truth. Barely any fandom lasts. Yes, bronies are still a thing, but no longer the kind of thing that everyone talks about and is aware of. Now that I saw what exactly is going on with gen 5 I personally don't think even new MLP generation will bring bronies back to their former glory.

Oh, I almost forgot, there's also drama. This forum had its fair share of those that I was unfortunate to witness myself. They can make everyone want to leave.

I've often thought of doing so but I haven't, these forums were very special now though they seem too strict. Threads keep being merged and everything is so strict, it used to have a lot more freedom for discussion. So well as an old time user, most have left because of drama there used to be a lot more fandom drama in these forums. Now its mainly just inactive, used to be that you couldnt keep up with status updates and posts like at all. You'd reply to a topic and already ten others had at the same time. Now days or months pass, so you know I believe the fandom has matured but the forums have simply discussed everything to be discussed.
