Pony Hybrids

I have been thinking about pony hybrids since I decided to make my OC half changeling. And there are real horse hybrids like mules and Zorses (Half horse half zebra.) but why is there a lack of Hybrid pony OCs? Most OCs seem to be pure blooded ponies or non-ponies. I haven't seen any OCs that are mules or half zebra or many other hybrids.

I'd assume the reason is because many frown upon the idea of OCs like that.

My OC is a quarter zebra. I do remember seeing a hybrid that was posted on the forums in the past that was a mule I think, and I've seen quite a few other hybrids floating around.

I made (and am going to make) several hybrids for my MLP NextGen kids.

I also have an alicorn/draconequus, and I have a buffalo/pony and zony kid planned in the future.

I don't see why hybrids would be frowned upon.But I see how a pony who is half dragon doesn't seem possible. Unless you think about Kirin/qilins which are dragon horses.And that could be quite cool.

and being a hybrid makes your character different being that hybrids are pretty uncommon.

and also being a hybrid helps them develop into a great character with a backstory from a different perspective than a pure blooded pony or non-pony.

and by a lack of OCs i mean that there aren't many people who have characters with backstories and personalities/what makes them a good character. Not just a character that looks nice and has no story.

like: what's the half Pegasus, half ahuizotl's backstory? who would be his mother? assuming Ahuizotl is his father.And if he doesn't have a mother what happened to her? what would/was his childhood like? Who is this character? What is his name? Where does he live? Does he have problems with what he is? does he face inner conflict?

I see a lot of of hybrid ponies. 

Mostly they are just aesthetic but that doesn't bother me to much. 

 

A lot of people frown on hybrids because to a lot of roleplayers they break canon which is important for authenticity. I don't think it bothers artists nearly as much as writers/roleplayers but I could be wrong.

A common hybrid OC is the Kirin which is half pony/ half dragon. 

 

Also a horse/donkey hybrid can be called either a Mule or a Hinny depending on which speices the mother is.

I just haven't seen many hybrid OCs that have backstories and personalities but I'm Thirteen and have to be in school most of the time so I'm not online much so I probably just haven't had enough time online to see the hybrid OCs.

I have a few,   like Springstone is half earth pony and half Zebra.  given why her colors are purple and has a tail like a normal pony does  while Nevermore Midnight is bat and earth pony herself.   She has the tapper ears and hooves of a bat pony and fangs just a size smaller.

My OC is half-changeling, half-pony. Long story (in the process of bieng written, takes a while to write to the best of my ability) but I preferred to keep it out of how the actual pony looks and keep it in the powers Tap actually has (With limitations to prevent Mary Sue, obviously)

For me, hybrids aren't a problem for personal inserts, but bringing one into role play is... dangerous. I mean my ponysona needs like... 60 detailed headcanons to exist and if someone wanted to role play with me and let me use her I'd be ecstatic, but I don't expect it because shes just that far removed from canon. 

You see the issue with hybrids is that scientifically, they aren't common and the ones that do exist, can't reproduce. They're genetic dead ends and dead ends get swept away as time goes on. Hybrids almost never occur without interference and here is where the magic comes in. When you make a pony hybrid, you are already starting out with something rare, and that means more work to make it realistic. MLP provides a lot of channels to make and support a hybrid oc, but they're right on the edge of stretching canon.

Basically, it's easy to put something that already has a real world base into MLP, but once you start messing with magic people's mary sue alarms go off.

Hybrids ponies are a kind of special, extraordinary. People would like to differ from each other, to show something unique; hybrids may have a different backstory just because of their special beings, like not being accepted by the community, so the creator can identify with/sympathy with his/her character, this could be the reason of creating a not so traditional OC.
Cyborg pony characters is almost the same.

I see all kinds of cool pony hybrid OCs on Pony Town all the time. They're definitely a thing, you just gotta look in the right place. 

As for myself though, just plain pony OCs will forever be my favorite.
