Are forums a waste of time?

From a bigger perspective, yes, it is. But there are lots of wastes of time in life that we do just 'cause we enjoy it, or because we like the company.

I've been thinking of daffodils a lot lately. But cornflowers are my all-time favourite.  :squee:

Seriously tho, I just enjoy being here and sharing my opinions with people. Discussing the show and the toys, especially that I don't know any MLP fans in real life.

Plus I make some pony-related stuff myself and I'm glad I can share my creations with the community.

Nope. Cause this is the place where I can actually interact with people, and post my two cents without getting attacked by extremists and radicals. It's better than facebook, for damn sure. We've got a nice little group here. Plus, where else can you discuss ponies?

Definitely a wise investment of my time.

In the sense that it's keeping me from writing (and sometimes working), yes, it's a waste of time. However I enjoy being on this forum so I personally don't consider the time I spend here wasted. As for what I hope to accomplish...nothing, really. I'm here to talk about ponies and occasionally other subjects, and I've accomplished that just fine thus far.

No, I've met a lot of people here who share my passion for my favorite show... In no sane way am I giving this up. xD

All my friends here mean a lot to me, from the "newbs", to the mods, to the vets.

Its more like I've been reduced to posting in threads I posted in before because I want to keep off the bandwagon pop topics and I wonder why I'm still alive to only do this

Hmm. Interesting topic and may I add my own point of view of which you can agree or disagree with. And hi, I'm Rapid Wind and I'm still new. While, yes I think there is something into forums and the activity and social connections it can create, I believe moderation is the key. Too much time on forums does take away time from other things, so moderation is key.

They're nice to have when you're multitasking. I don't focus all of my attention on them, so they can't be an effective waste of time.

In many ways forums are a waste of time but I guess I've kind of come to the conclusion for myself that if I enjoy spending my time on them and have fun doing so then it not that bad of a waste of time.

As for what I hope to achieve here, my hope is just to become more active, post more regulary and make friends here.

Nope, though at times I get a bit irritated posting in the Debate Pit and pessimism, which is pretty rampant here, really irks me for some reason.

Also, agave. :V

Kind of, unless you're famous and have plenty of socializing involved. Otherwise it's just for boredom. Like this post I made, it won't be seen by many. It's just a creative way to get thoughts out.

Forums are a place to meet and share with people who have similar interests and walks of life, and to learn about those who don't. Is this any more of a waste of time than doing the same thing in real life? I don't think so! For a person to belong to a community is important whether its online or in person.

I don't think forums are a waste of time. I think it's pretty cool getting to meet and talk to new people who like the same things you do on a forum. I also like forums can have topics and discussions that bring up good debates. I hope to accomplish being more confident when wanting to post, being more sociable and making lots of friends. I feel that I kind of accomplished when it comes to posting, but I feel that I can still try and become a little more confident in myself.

The fourms for me especially this one I don't see it as a waste of time.

It depends on how you view them as. For me, I frequent many forums which means they tend to consume my time quite effectively. I don't mind though, as forums are nice places for me to be, so it's worth it. Even when I should be doing something productive with my time, just like I should be doing that now.

I do have a bit of a guilt complex when I spend too much time on the forums. I try to keep busy all the time and be constructive. The only problem is that I don't always have the energy to do something constructive. Coming here has been a great experience because I've met many wonderful friends with many interests. It's expanded my horizons and helped me to be less internalized (there's a time and place for both solitude and friendship). So by that reckoning, this has been constructive in that I've learned a lot of new things and gained new perspectives. And that is a wonderful thing.

yep... I'm pretty sure that's the point though to kill time. Now is it worth it?... forums use to be my only way of socialization back in 2014 other than Xbox Live. Now I come here to answer questions, and talk with friends. So yeah I'd say its worth every second.
