gaming Opinion on Zelda: Breath of the wild?

Can you play it with an actual controller?  If not, then I'm not interested.

That is understandable, I am not a huge fan of motion controls or touchpads either and wish Nintendo wouldn't place such a heavy emphasis on them. But Skyward Sword actually did a very good job with the motion controls, albeit with a few flaws here and there. For me the only time Zelda has ever let me down was the DS Zelda games because the motion controls were almost impossible, especially Spirit Tracks which I rage quit at the very beginning of the game. I got to the part where I played the instrument and couldn't get any further than that no matter what I did. I like what I am seeing so far with this Zelda, it kind of reminds me of Skrim a bit with the exploration albeit with not as dark of a tone.

Don't forget that Japanese developers are still behind in certain developments. The open world and numerous content we saw in the trailer is a huge step for them.

Oh and for those curious, Link will not be playable as a female as first speculated. I'm not one for modern feminism, but this is a pretty dumb reason for not allowing it. Like this feels like a cop out because they didn't want to have the possibility of people hinting at romantic feelings between Link and Zelda is they were both female. Sadly... Despite Nintendo's claims of supporting the LGBT community they are still very male-centric and very skeptical about embracing LGBT in their games. Nintendo is still stuck in the 90s in that regard.

I mean it doesn't make or break the game for me, but it is a fairly large disappointment to hear that Nintendo humored the idea for all of 3 seconds before they dropped it for ridiculous reasoning. A female player character might have been a nice change of pace. Oh well though.

This game looks great! For the entire duration of the trailer I was just sitting there, saying things like "Look at that graaaas!", "Look at that waaaater!" and "Look at that speeear!"

I think I need to invest in either a Wii U or the NX when it comes out. This is just too good to miss out on... :(

If the Elder Scrolls, Zelda, Dark Souls and the Witcher had an orgy, this game would be the child. Looks amazing so far!

Definitely one of the bigger reasons I'll be getting a Wii-U. Seems like they'll be taking this in an interesting new direction.

Also lol @ the scene where Link was setting the fields of grass on fire. What a dick.

While the concept of doing whatever the hell you want is nothing new in the industry, it could bring fresh air to Zelda which I feel is kinda stagnant at the moment

So I guess you won't be able to name the hero this time? I mean, the voice in the trailer calls you Link.

Oh dear, there we have the f*cking Verge again. I didn't forget the ShirtGate fiasco they stirred and the way they (including others) ruined the party for the rest of the satellite mission.

Back on topic; While Nintendo had Linkle, it was nothing but obvious fembait that failed.

I would expect NoA supporting LGBT's, Japanese companies tend to be traditional since they don't want to boot their local audiences, since most of them are traditional too.

Don't forget KoA: Reckoning :toldya:.

Another thing about Zelda BotW running in only 720p 30fps, Wind Waker HD does run in 1080p, yet it struggles to stay at 30 frames at times. Zelda Wii U uses new high res textures obviously, and shaders, on top of the massive open world, so running in 1080p, or even 900p without serious frame drops would be almost impossible.

I never noticed any serious framedrops in Wind Waker.

My point is though that you can't even get the game past 720p (which looks kind of crap these days) on a NEW piece of hardware supposedly more powerful?

As far as the whole "Same experience on both Wii U and NX", Aonuma was really vague with his response, it could just mean they'll have the same content(or at least I hope). Besides the game still has 9 months before it should release, there's a chance they can still get it running at 1080p and/or 60fps before then

Even then though, the game seems to be a huge success for Nintendo so far(especially since we're only seeing the Wii U version right now), generating a lot of positive buzz and supposedly being the biggest game at E3 so far. I can see the game doing well on both systems if they can manage to pull it off

@@Key Sharkz, Well, when I played, I got some frame drops, and it was actually kind of glaring. Maybe I was just unlucky.

Anyways, my point is the Wii U is not as powerful as you might think.

Compared to the Xbox 360, on which GTA V barely ran at 720p 30fps, which frame drops were pretty frequent, as well as pop-in, and you've played GTA V on 360/PS3, right?; the Wii U's power compared to the 360 is nominal.

The RAM is 2GB compared to 512 MB, however, 1GB is for the OS and the other for games. The CPU is a 3 core 1.2 GHz, while the 360's is a tri core at 3.2 Ghz.

Lastly, the GPU is 550 MHz, while the 360 is 500 MHz. Again, nominal differences, and the 360 is even better with it's CPU.

I think a good thing to say is that Nintendo went in more then they probably needed to with the new Zelda, and they should have cut back on some parts.

Right. I mean, I am definitely picking BotW up because it looks like a new direction that is needed to keep the franchise fresh, but when you have the competition pushing HDR and 4K ... lower resolution and frame rates are a legitimate complaint.

You can use a regular controller, yes.

Shame you're gonna pass on this one, though. Me, I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced. I know it's gonna be amazing.

Oh, that's nice.  But still, I don't want to buy the console just for that.  Too bad Nintendo games can't be on Steam.  :(

Game looks great, but If you read the youtube comment section you'd think that it was the greatest sin to ever be done on the franchise.

To be fair, after 4 years of waiting and being told the game was being delayed to be on a more powerful console, finding out the game is 720p30fps is kind of shit. Like they didn't use this extra time or hardware to try and maybe make this the HD Zelda they claimed it would be. The conference itself that they unveiled it with was boring as hell as well. I think the complaints are legitimate.

@@Buck Testa, I never pay attention to Youtube comments. They can get really toxic sometimes. Also, the visuals are amazing.

@@Key Sharkz, I did say that the Wii U is extremely underpowered, even compared to the 7th gen consoles. And also the Xbox 360 is even more powerful than the Wii U in some areas. There was no way they were going to reach even 1080p, given the massive world they created.

Sigh, just another sign that Nintendo messed up with the Wii U. They could have done better if they invested in better hardware, and then third-party devs would have supported it more. Well, that, and leaving out unnecessary gimmicks, like the gamepad. Seriously, the pro controller would have been fine as the main and only controller. Well, along with the Wii remote, I suppose.

I'll admit, at first glance when I heard the theme was "Technology meets Zelda" I thought "Wow, thats the dumbest thing I've ever seen" but from watching the gameplay, it actually looks like it could easily be my favorite zelda game. I'm a huge fan of open world exploration.

The game looks promising, and I'd like to play it, but I think I'm going to have to pass on it.

I'd have to drop 200-300 bucks on a Wii U, and somewhere around 70 for the game. That's hard for me to justify... even for Zelda.

I see some areas where the graphics are low (the trees, being the main issue) but overall the graphics in this game are gorgeous. The scenery is gorgeous, the buildings are gorgeous. I don't really see what people are complaining about... But I hardly ever do. People get stuck on these things like FPS, which is meaningless to me. lol
