Stardust* 3,302 June 23, 2016 Share June 23, 2016 I gotta go with the Samurai. Their stealthy and quick. Plus katana's are ridiculously sharp and strong. Stardust My Art My Non-Pony Art Ask A Pony

Malinter 3,064 June 23, 2016 Share June 23, 2016 i'd say the viking. Sure the samurai as the training and the tech (via katana) but vikings are all strength and ferocity. Unless the samurai can take him down quickly, he's just gonna get hacked into death. Dreambiscuit 9,554 June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 (edited) Samurai all the way. Vikings may be strong and well armed, but Samurai have not only great weaponry but great stealth, tactics and better protection with their layered armor. Katanas are less heavy and far sharper than a Viking sword. A Viking weapon, by just sheer force of weight and momentum, can do lots of damage when they hit their mark, but the lighter Samurai swords can deliver many blows and more quickly. I wouldn't want to face either one in battle, but if I was placing a bet on who would win in a fight, it would be the Samurai most definitely. SFyr 1,982 June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 Honestly, while I definitely believe the fight could go either way due it being HORRIBLY situational, and dependent on the individuals involved... Overall I think the Samurai would be the best to bet on winning. Yes, Vikings have an iconic ferocity that the Samurai might lack, as the latter is drilled on tactics and the art of warfare pretty heavily to my knowledge... but they're both really fierce warriors dedicated to armed combat at their core. However, to my knowledge, the Samurai is supported by a more economically powerful force (lords and country), and have access to better forges, blacksmiths, and equipment. A well kept/forged blade and armor set can be a major deciding factor in a fight, especially if the impact of only a blow or two can change the outcome. Also, I'm not well versed in a ton of either's environment/history but I think Vikings are commonly more experienced with surprise raids, or attacks on less armed countrymen rather than fighting many well-armed soldiers and veterans head on. On the flip side, I think the Samurai are geared to fight enemies of a dedicated warrior caste when needed, and don't last make it to being a Samurai unless know how to fight someone both experienced and very well armed. But yeah, my personal take. Could easily be wrong, and the fight could easily go either way regardless. 1 Commission Thread | Deviantart | Poniverse Tumblr | Art Tumblr
JonasDarkmane 19,784 June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 Vikings all the way. Samurai's are only trained differently, not more than vikings. Plus, brutality and ferocity will overcome their sense of honor and humility. Jonas Darkmane ... I do this for you. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 However, to my knowledge, the Samurai is supported by a more economically powerful force Vikings raid to economically support themselves . So they loot what they find. Better weaponry, money, materials for their homes or ships (doors (that one is a personal joke )). But yeah, my personal take. Could easily be wrong, and the fight could easily go either way regardless. For me the deciding factor is three fold, the tech (Viking tech > Japanese tech of each class mentioned, the battle strategies used (quick shock and awe of Vikings vs. warriors that rarely served in the front lines), and finally historical uses as evidenced by the Tokugawa Shogunate and Meiji Restoration. I would also mention that the politics of those periods helped to dramatically weaken the Samurai. Samurai were adept at slaughtering out-manned and 'outgunned' opponents. Later their skills were used more like an 'occupational' force in their own towns and villages.

VengefulStrudel 1,486 June 26, 2016 Share June 26, 2016 I'm obliged to say vikings. No bias here, not at all! I know very little about Samurais, from what I know they served as "elite guard" or "royal guard" of sorts, rarely charging into the frontlines in combat. Vikings could also most likely easily outnumber the Samurai, so if anything, they could at least zerg rush the Samurai down. 1 Check out my art thread for some cute ponies, cookies and boops. trumanchap 7 June 26, 2016 Share June 26, 2016 i hope im not bothering people, but it depends on weapons, armor, mobility, range, and numbers, the samurias have armor EVERYWHERE, vikings too, mobility would be similar, vikings would use bows, samurias would have long bows, crossbows, or something else, and numbers: i would assume samurias would be in 5s or 4s, and vikings would be in huge amounts. weapons, well vikings would use broad swords, axes, or bows, and sheilds, samurais would use katanas, long bows, sheilds, and stuff. so, it depends on all the above. Honestly, while I definitely believe the fight could go either way due it being HORRIBLY situational, and dependent on the individuals involved... Fluttershyfan94 5,742 May 1, 2020 Share May 1, 2020 (edited) Vikings would win, though vikings did not really have the sword training of a samurai they were fueled by pure ferocity and brutal strength. Some like the berserker were literal tanks and would pretty much kill everyone until they'd eventually die from their wounds or survive even that. While samurais were more focused on technique not to mention they did not fear death they embraced it and no greater honor then to die valiantly in battle so they'd fight until the end with a smile on their face which would be terrifying to most people really. Olly 1,011 May 1, 2020 Share May 1, 2020 Samurai, due to being highly disciplined and trained warriors. The katana is also a finely crafted weapon, more effective than any viking sword. Although it depends on what era of samurai, since they eventually got lazy and were basically just an honored caste. But vikings may have been better armored, and more durable, though I think a viking would typically just hack and slash his way through anything without much finesse, so a well-timed blow to the throat or something would win for the samurai. We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say.

Splashee 28,560 May 1, 2020 Share May 1, 2020 Samurai would probably win, because vikings do not train the same way... At least I think so. But again, without weapon, a viking might have more strength.
Denim&Venöm 18,540 May 1, 2020 Share May 1, 2020 Here's another reason why Samurai would beat Vikings. Guns. The vikings never had them. The samurai used them for over 300 years before the Shogunate was disbanded. Heck, guns were the preferred weapon if a Samurai had one. Ranged combat in general was what Samurai preferred. They were archers before swordsman. Combined with better armor, better training in battlefield tactics and martial arts like jujutsu and the viking is not just at a skilled disadvantage, but a technological one. Fighting a viking wouldn't have been all that different from fighting a mongol, which the Samurai successfully did, before they reached their peak.
