Bisexual Support Thread

Recommended Posts

Let me first start off by explaining why this thread needs to exist; due to the fact that some of you may be wondering why a thread like this is not merged with the LGBT Support Thread.

Bisexuality is different than both hetero and homo sexuality in that it, by it's very definition, means the attraction to both male and female genders.

This has lead to false stereotypes and discrimination not only throughout society, but also throughout the LGBT community as well.

These stereotypes include bisexuals being promiscuous, greedy, confused, ect...

And if you're still in doubt that bisexuals face discrimination within the LGBT community, then watch this video by, one of my favorite YouTubers, TheNotAdam where R.J. explains how he experienced biphobia at a pride parade in L.A.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIkRen9eSaI

Do to the fact that allot of these particular issues effect solely bisexuals, I felt compelled to make this thread.

That being said, this thread is open to anyone and not just bisexuals.

I want everyone to be able to join in on the discussion.

Lastly, I'll end on this.

This thread is also meant to be a safe haven for people who are bisexual.

Any bullying will be reported to a moderator or administrator.

Thank you for your corporation!

Just a random question, do these stereotypes exist towards pansexuals as well?

Pansexuality is bisexuality for those special snowflakes that need to invent a "new" sexuality. Since pansexuality is pretty much the same thing as bisexuality, yes, people will likely have the exact same prejudices if they even know about the word pansexuality.

Some of my best buddies are Bi, I don't see how people can be so against them liking both sexes XP

It's because people don't understand that bisexuality is an actual sexuality.

They think it's a phase and that you'll eventually come out as either gay or straight.

I'm sorry, but if I have a preference for both apples and oranges are you going to say that that's just a phase too?

It's an illogical stance to take, and it leads to false rumors about biseuxals.

People need to let individuals run their own lives...and keep what little minds they have to themselves... ~ I support good people...and not those who want to control everyone's sexual nature...

It is kind of crazy that people think being Bi is not real and just somebody being indecisive.  I can't comment all that much though as I kind of had the same view point until I looked into it a bit more and found out that it's a real thing.  I still don't understand Pan though, it seems like it's the same thing as Bi but very slightly different.

It's really weird how people think that. Anyways, I am bi, so if anyone needs someone to chat about that topic, I'm here.

I think bisexuals get flack because if you're a woman or a man, your bisexual partner can be viewed as someone who's always on the prowl. I am bisexual, even though I prefer women in a heart beat, I wish I could date a guy, but I don't get along with most people of my own sex.

If people would stop worrying about whom was attracted to whom the world would be a lot more pleasant of a place.

Whatever -sexual someone is should have no bearing whatsoever on anyone else and not be open to ridicule and contempt. As long as all parties are happy in the relationship and have an equal say in it, it is nobodies business but their own.

I can't agree that pansexuality is the same as bisexuality. It seems a lot of people identify gender with physical characteristics, and bisexuality with attraction to both "males" and "females" (any combination of genders is applicable, not exceeding numbering of two, hence 'bi') based on physical characteristics commonly attributed to those genders. There are people who have different physical characteristics from what traditional "males" and "females" would be considered to possess. Pansexuality is about finding attraction which does not stem from physical characteristics but from personal ones. There is the difference then, it only will exist separate so long as people consider gender a matter of the genitalia and such likenesses, as well as including societal expectations for genders. Should those disappear, then it is bisexuality that will no longer exist. Pansexuality is defined as "not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity" Therefore, you could say a pansexual person is bi in that they would choose at least two separate genders for a sexual relationship, but you cannot wholly define a pansexual person as bisexual. And you cannot validly say that a bisexual person is pansexual; it exceeds the limitations of bisexuality. There may only be a fine line of difference in your eyes but written law capitalizes such things and could determine if certain people are fairly defended by law or not.

(edited)

Well this is unexpected.

I just looked up the definition of pansexuality and it describes my sexuality perfectly.

I wouldn't care about a person's biological sex or gender identity if it came down to my sexual interest.

So ya, I guess I'm pansexual.

That doesn't mean I'll turn a blind eye to the problems that bisexuals face or this thread for that matter.

and discrimination... very very many

this one of the reasons, why I throw to walk in college,

holy shit, that's awful.

It's a crime to have sex with the same sex in your country?

Why?

Who would you possibly be harming?

It's sad these anti-lgbt laws still exist in the modern world.

I just searched up pansexuality, and I, too, feel like it describes me near to a point. I really don't care what anyone's sexuality is when it comes to my partner. All that they need to be is tolerant, tolerable, and be willing to listen and cooperate. Other than that, I don't care if someone is heterosexual, bisexual or even homosexual, as long as I like their personality, I'll still love them for them.

But interactions between 2 woman are OK?  That's kind of weird.

Kind of reminds me when I was in church in the UK once and the preacher started talking about the new same sex marriage laws like they were a horrible idea.  I know not all religious people are like that but it annoys me when people say stuff like that.  People like that are the reason why I don't want to tell others that I'm bi.

To the Pansexuality: I am ok when people say that they are pansexual, but I have a problem when they say that pansexual people only looks at the character of a person and not the physical appearence and bisexual (or also gay and straight people) only look at the physical appearence. I know, that comes not from all who are pansexual, but I know pansexual people who said that. But I think you need both, appearence and character, to find somebody interesting or fall in love for somebody, indifferent if you are gay, straight, bi or pan. In my definition, pansexual people are people who love men, women and also people which gender are not 100% clear (transgender, intersex people, etc.) and that would be for me the only different between pansexual and bisexual people.

To the biphobia: As a gay man, I never can understand why some other homosexuals have such problems with bisexuals. When I search for a boyfriend, I don't care if he is gay or bisexual. And I also can not understand when homosexual persons say that bisexuals are only irresolute or don't want to come out in public as a gay person. This is nonsense.

Correct, and that's not how I am.

My pansexuality isn't based in pride, but rather my own preferences as it is.

I could imagine myself being with someone who is gender neutral, male, female, trans, or whatever.

Therefore, I identify as pansexual.

On a side note.

Regardless of your opinions of her, I thought Laci Green did a good video on pansexuality.

Have a watch if you'd like.

I still don't understand how people can be stupid enough to have such prejudices towards bisexuals. Guess I just don't surround myself with retarded people.

unfortunately, there are both straight and Gay people who have expressed disgust for Bisexuals. Its sad, really.

I never understood the stereotypes or the prejudice of anyone, much less bisexuals and the LGBT community. People really need to stop living in the 17th century and get on with modern times. The very few people that know I'm bisexual are fortunately accepting.

I am also aware of discrimination and negative attitudes towards the B in LGBT. I can talk about it on the internet but since I don't mention that I'm in that group to anybody I know personally, I haven't confronted those who feels negatively about it.
