Just a quick note. As a person with a best friend who is diabetic, I never thought the "Ha-ha, diabetes is funny!" jokes were very appropriate. I wish people would stop with it. It's not funny. I was with her once when she went into diabetic shock and had convulsions. Nobody at the scene was laughing when it happened. She could have died. No, she isn't fat, but yes, she is legally blind now. She can still see, thankfully, but can not drive and needs a magnifying glass with her everywhere she goes. Not too long ago a bus driver yelled at her when she said she was legally blind and couldn't read the numbers on the bus. The @$$hole accused her of lying, and closed the doors and drove off. Now when she's going to use the bus, she carries a red tipped white cane so jerks won't hassle her when she waves for every bus and then asks what route it's running.

(Several routes converge at her stop.)

Well, I can perfectly understand where you are coming from. As a person with a younger sister who is Diabetic, I know full well how scary things can get when her blood sugar goes to high or too low. Have I ever had something as tragic as what you described happen? No, thankfully not. You are correct, I should really know better in making these sort of jokes, and this is not my first time making one. Per your request, I will refrain from making any more.
