King of Canterlot 9,603 October 20, 2017 Share October 20, 2017 I honestly don't really mind school, no one picks on me and I also get to do group projects with classmates who aren't annoying or rude, but I will be relieved when I do gradate in 2019, mostly just to have that weight of mandatory public school of from my shoulders. MilkTea 284 October 20, 2017 Share October 20, 2017 I don't like school, and I'm happy when I have the oppurtunity to skip a day, but I understand that it's important (plus the extra work when I come back isn't really worth it cx) It is a big source of anxiety for me though. Walking down the halls always makes me feel like I'm being watched. So it's less of the schoolwork and more of the social pressures and people I don't like. «【☆】»

Ivan The Adorable 304 October 20, 2017 Share October 20, 2017 School is all over the place, especially since it depends so much on quality of teachers, administration, and community. A lot of what educators talk about in their debates about school is how a lot of it is a streamlined process for the benefit of businesses. It basically lets them throw a mass of children at a wall and see who sticks. The worst thing in my opinion that happened was the testing industry got their grubby mitts all over the school systems and STEM fanaticism hasn't made it easier. I feel sorry for the students who have to sit through those dozen benchmark tests now. I got out before that nonsense expanded. Some schools make it work regardless of limitations, but a lot don't. To some extent what an individual gets out of school is what they put into it, particularly when it comes to college. If you don't have an active interest or goal it's not going to do anything special for you. You don't learn anything useful dozing in class or dully copying from a book without thinking about your subject, but if you can engage in it, it's an opportunity to gain a useful base of knowledge. It is also, plainly, the only method we have anymore of socializing kids so they can adjust to being around people in a functional manner.
Justin_Case001 4,891 October 20, 2017 Share October 20, 2017 I'm sorry, but I have to: On 9/12/2017 at 5:07 PM, LugiaFan249 said: "School?" I think you misspelled prison. Heh. Right? My friends and I used to call it "The Gulag". Yeah, probably offensive to those who were actually in the real Gulag, but we thought it was funny. I'm thankful for my education, but I really hated school, and I think it would need a lot of changes before it approached being an actually efficient, stimulating, nurturing sort of environment where you really learn stuff. School is so fraught with bullsh*t. So much of it is pointless busywork, and then there's the bullying, the popularity contests, the drama, etc. I felt stressed, nervous, and intimidated most days at school. It's a terrible environment for learning. The sad irony is that learning can be so much fun, but school makes it torture. As an adult, I've learned many things simply because I wanted to and it seemed interesting. "Oh, there's a Vietnam War documentary on TV? Sounds interesting? Oh, there's a podcast on the complexities of foreign policy, or the mysterious nature of consciousness? Sounds interesting." Acquiring knowledge should and can be fascinating and mentally stimulating, but school just drills in the idea that learning is work and it sucks.

Invincible 2,091 October 21, 2017 Share October 21, 2017 I hated school, but I think almost all kids hate school. I started appreciating education and learning, as well as taking in academic atmosphere only in college. Handsome Changeling 1,851 October 21, 2017 Share October 21, 2017 Hmmm. Well Primary School was great. Fond memories there. High School was also great besides my memories being tainted by my ex there. But I enjoyed most of High School. And College has some bad memories before my drop out and re-application so all in all I feel education for me has been quite fun. RavenholmZombie 1,330 October 21, 2017 Share October 21, 2017 As a high school graduate, I oftentimes look back on not just my four years in high school, but on the entirety of my student "career" as I call it, from pre-K to high school graduation, and I ask myself the same question: "What do you think of all this?" Well, for me, school had its ups and its downs, I've encountered a lot of trials and drama (especially in middle and high school) during my school-going years. But, despite that, I do have fond memories of my years as a student. The most recent of which are the three years I spent as a cadet in my high school's junior ROTC program, I loved being a cadet and made many friends in that program (some of whom I still speak with today), it also gave me experience and helped me bolster various aspects of my personality, especially leadership skills. All-in-all, I think that school, while being boring at some points and tedious at others, was an enjoyable experience for me. Pony Flutters 535 October 24, 2017 Share October 24, 2017 I'd say my elementary school days were alright and those days were when I did my best, but over time, I stopped caring and found it to be kind of a waste of time. I wasn't learning anything useful and I've developed social issues because of disdain from classmates and teachers. If anything, I felt like I learned a lot more from researching books and the internet in the past few years (after high school graduation) than I've ever had from my years in school. Not to mention how interesting some of the things I've learned by myself have been, compared to the boring, stressful, and forced atmosphere of school. I'd actually say that the environments I've lived in aren't even ideal atmospheres for learning. I felt like I would've focused much more on my studies had I lived in a cooler climate with much more decent school systems.

Rainbow Dash 1,472 July 17, 2018 Share July 17, 2018 School is a waste of everyones time. Kids dont wanna learn, or they dont wanna sit for 2-3 hours listening to an adult tell them how the world works. Some kids, like me, learn by doing not sitting and focusing for hours. Also there are good teachers, no question. However with every profession theres always gonna be that one person whose only there as a favor or something, cause the way they do their job is just awful. Had teachers verbally abuse me, and humiliate me in front of a classroom of middle schoolers. I dont think i need to tell you how bad middle schoolers are, and were before the age of standing up to bullying. Schools also have a tendency to mark some kids who learn at a different pace. Too slow, you are remedial; too quick your advanced. Learn at the same pace as other people, you are normal. Emphasis on normal...schools have a way of emulating work camps wherein they dampen your spirit and borderline abuse you to tears if you arent like the rest of the workers...students. R.I.P. Jedishy 3,548 July 18, 2018 Share July 18, 2018 I have never had an issue with school. I think it needs more flexibility in speed and testing as I often could blow through in a day or two what took others weeks to get even in advanced classes. Same in college. But other then that little hang up I enjoyed it and never even let the bullying stop me. Frankly, I am grateful for even the bad experiences. Life can be hard, teachers and parents won't always be there to save you. School is a compressed version of that with a giant safety net under it. May the Friendship be with you. MangoFoalix 24,961 July 19, 2018 Share July 19, 2018 School is good for a general education but it's not really for everyone. Some people are just absolutely terrible when it comes to learning new stuff. I don't really think I have a hard time learning but rather I hate tests. Tests give me anxiety which can lead me to do worse in some situations. The way I see it is, if the subject in school is something interests me, I will probably love it. If it doesn't interest me. I will probably think it's boring and hate it.

Splashee 28,564 October 11, 2020 Share October 11, 2020 I wish school could be more focused on special cases from the very beginning, making special kids more special. That would immediately solve the "be like everybody else or don't fit in" situation. Like, imagine if Albert Einstein got to be the way he would become much later in life, but much earlier? Maybe he would have solved string theory if he had had more time, and built his brain up in school, instead of having to waste that time doing stuff he didn't really need.
