spoiler Was Cozy Glow's fate going too far?

Criminals being sent to Tartarus is nothing new. Cozy Glow is not only the first pony confirmed to be subjected to this fate, she's also only a filly. This would be equivalent to a real life child being tried as an adult and sentenced to prison, an act that DOES happen and has its own share of controversy.

No, it wasn't. She:

  • Lured Twilight and Co. into a trap in Tartarus.
  • Kidnapped a faculty member.
  • Held a Government Bureaucrat hostage.
  • Incited a riot.
  • Watched as six students and the aforementioned faculty member were almost sucked into a vortex.
  • Nearly destroyed the school.
  • Willingly conspired with Tirek to steal all of the magic in Equestria.

And she did all of this without a shred of remorse or regret.

If Gideon Gray from Gravity Falls ban be arrested for conspiracy and manipulation, so can Cozy Glow.

Are we 100% sure she's a filly?

Looks can be deceiving.

Her being sent to Tartarus was solely for the purpose of building a plot of freeing Triek in S9.  I think the writers technically couldn't care less if she's too young to be sent there.

Her actions almost destroyed an entire kingdom so being sent to Tartarus was a wise decision. Then again, this is where time constraints prevented certain story elements from being on display and so we're left wondering about things that remain unknown for now.

And not only did she have no remorse or regret, she said that she was going to do it again as she tried to escape. She was very much still a threat, so they had no reason to treat her with kid's gloves, especially with the possibility that she's not even a real kid, but some kind of demon disguised as one.

I'm not entirely convinced that she is a filly.  While I know there are some scarily intelligent children out there, her level of complex thought to execute the plans that she did and her ambition of absolute power just seems a bit outside her age.  She also way too effectively wields the power of her youthful adorbness as a weapon to not be completely unaware of how it works.  Sounds like a mare that somehow didn't age or was at one point a mare and was reverted back to her filly years.

Oh well.  We'll either find out next season or it will forever remain a mystery.

Regarding the question though, as the cast probably hasn't put as much thought into it, child or no, she is a treat to Equestria that shows no remorse and too far gone to change.  Even though I thought Tartarus was reserved for magical threats, and she's a pegasus, it seems it simply be a plot device to put her with Triek for later.

I'll also chime in to say that I don't believe her getting sent to Tartarus was "just a plot device". She's displayed herself to be more of a threat than the average villain, not to mention that it was the perfect comeuppance after she tried to have Twilight and her friends trapped in Tartarus.

Nope. Unlike most of the other villians, she showed no remose. I already mention that other jerks like Diamond Tiara. Starlight, and Discord showed remose for their actions, but Cozy Glow revels in being a bitch in sheep's clothing.

Not at all for the reasons @Theanimationfanatic, @CloudMistDragon, and @Happy Yoshi stated. She trapped our heroes in Tartarus with her co-conspirator, tried to destroy magic worldwide (with intent to retry it), and nearly sucked Starlight and the Young Six to the mysterious realm. All without a hint of regret.

She's evil, and she'll be back in the Season 9 Premiere, or so. They work together, they escape, they team up with all manner of villains like Chrysalis, Flim and Flam, Lightning Dust, and even bring back King Sombra, and cause the EndGame of Equestria, and then we get to lnow that her parents forgot about her, and replaced her! The act of putting her in Tartarus is gonna backfire on Equestria, Besides, there's no worse fate than punishment from Mommy and Daddy.

Now I haven't seen the finale yet, but I know of this detail at least. Do I agree with such a brutal imprisonment? No. Why? Starlight. A pony that, out of something as petty as jealousy, nearly destroyed not just Equestria itself, but an entire timeline. Her punishment? Why, only a spot on the main cast of course! Oh sure, that finale paints Starlight as a pony that just 'didn't know the extent of what she was doing', but that is kinda worse to me, because it shows she didn't even once consider the extent of her actions. She just kept doing it over and over and over again, and the only time she thought to chill the hell out was when she seen literally everything as a wasteland. Wow, what a sympathetic character that deserves absolute forgiveness. Except to me, no. They sentence what seems to be a young pony to essentially hell prison for I think trying to free Tirek and team up with him to destroy everything, but as we saw in the S5 finale, one of the timelines resulted by Starlight's actions was Tirek destroying everything.

Don't get me wrong. Cozy could be far more evil than Starlight ever was and Starlight NOW is much more likeable (Though still a Mary Sue), but damn, Starlight's overall introduction was so sloppy and it creates problems like this for me. Cozy's imprisonment just seems like another really weird writing decision to me, much like making every character except Starlight into a brainless moron in Shadow Play.

First, I would recommend watching the Season 8 finale, it's very good.

Second, here's the difference between Starlight Glimmer and Cozy Glow:

The former surrendered, willingly accepted Twilight's help, and feels remorse for her actions.

The latter rejected Twilight's help and regrets nothing.

I haven't watched at least half of the episodes this season.

That does make sense, I get that, but with how malicious Starlight was in both the beginning and end of Season 5, I just felt her being , at least to us, immediately accepted and forgiven to be quite a stretch that I just couldn't get behind. I am all for forgiveness, but with her it felt so sudden and it just seemed like she just had to say 'I'm sorry' and that was it. In retrospect it bothers me a lot and creates some weird standards with how these things are handled.

Too far? I'd say it didn't go far enough. Several students almost died on their field trip at Cloudsdale because of her. With all the unicorn magic gone, who knows what other damage she might have caused?

If she doesn't have the capacity to feel the least sorry about it, she deserves to be beaten within an inch of her life. I don't care if she is just a filly, because she's more than demonstrated there's no innocence left in her. She's an asshole that only cares for herself. Let her parents go to Tartarus for raising her as the abomination she is.

I wonder myself if Cozy Glow is even a filly :o, OH GOD what if she's like Esther from Orphan where she's really an adult who looks like a child :okiedokieloki::laugh:, and yes Cozy Glow's punishment is very fitting considering the crimes she committed and the fact she showed no remorse for her actions and was wanting to continue those same actions elsewhere.

Or like Baby Dawl the villian from Batman. She looked like a child, despite being in at least her 20's last time I check anything Batman- related.

Putting Cozy Glow in Tartarus was just a fun and fitting finale to her reign of naughtiness. I have a feeling her mental wheels are already turning for a plan to escape and wreak havoc again. Honestly, I wish her luck. She is such a fresh and funny villain; completely unexpected and original. I hope she returns. I was really expecting Chrysalis to be the grand finale villainess this year, and even thought Cozy was Chrysalis for a few minutes. But it turned out I was wrong, much to my satisfaction.

In my opinion, Cozy being a mere filly doesn't really present an issue where her punishment is concerned. She's intelligent, calculating and rotten to the core. And above all else, she's a cartoon character who got a cartoony fate. It's funny, fitting and fearless. I didn't think the writers had it in them.

Honestly even though you haven't watched the finale yet, your previous statement was still pretty accurate, as is this one.  I think the problem WAS the fact that the villain was a kid.  Also there are places they could have sent her other than Tartarus.  There are other dungeons they could have sent her to that would have been a suitable punishment and DIDN'T HAVE A MAJOR VILLAIN RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE SHE WAS!

Also someone mentioned that they put her there to keep an eye on her...  That's funny.  Probably the funniest post on this entire thread.  Did we forget that Tirek escaped from Tartarus and nobody noticed right away because nobody was paying attention?  That's the official WRONG place to put someone to keep an eye on them.

And yeah, I could see the show chickening out and saying 'Oh she was an adult all along'.  That wouldn't surprise me.  It would be an automatic strike against the S9 premiere if they went that route (because it would be obvious WHY they would do it), but it wouldn't surprise me.
