Are the New Seasons Worth it?

This might be considered a lazy post. Are the new seasons worth watching? I stopped at 7, and kind of just stopped watching after I heard about all the new characters that were being added, although that isn't the reason I stopped per se. Have you guys enjoyed the new stuff? I guess I'm just feeling a bit timid about giving the new stuff a try!

Personally; despite season 6 I find that the latter four season collectively are stronger than the first four. Granted if I were to order them I would replace season 6 with 2 and 4 wouldn't be far behind, but as it stands season 7 & 8 are my top two favorites. I love the addition of the new characters and while not every episode is good; the ones that are tend to be home runs.

I have to legit say yes. There are some really good episodes in the new seasons. Sure, people like to hate the newer seasons but I see nothing wrong with them myself.

The show is so episodic that I don't think you need to watch entire seasons if you aren't feeling it. If you're curious I'd say just look through these forums, see what episodes are generally liked, and watch those. If you enjoy them, maybe check out some of the rest.

For plot and set up stuff, the only episodes I think you could benefit from watching before the finales of seasons 7 and 8 are: Campfire Tales, Daring Done and Health of Information for Season 7. School Daze, Molt Down, Marks for Effort, Friendship University, and What Lies Beneath for season 8

If you've watched six full seasons and enjoyed them, then you'll most likely enjoy seasons 7 and 8.

If you strongly feel that seasons 4-6 are weaker than seasons 1-3, then you'll probably not enjoy seasons 7 and 8 so much.

even if the new cast isn't your cup of tea, there are still plenty of great episodes that don't involve around those so i'd say yes, definately watch it,

I did enjoy Season 7 (despite the lack of the Mane Six because of their budgets in The Movie), but I did not enjoy Season 8 much. Season 9 hopefully will be much better.

Season 7 remains my personal favorite of all of them. Season 8 felt a little like a slightly more focused Season 6 with more (on the whole) interesting premises. YMMV on season 8. It isn’t uncommon to hear praise for Season 7 though. Even comparing the sample reviews of this small part of the community, the initial reviews and ratings of the episodes appears to have a much higher aggregate score than some that preceded it. 

Season 8 is worth the time, though again, your enjoyment is going to be predicated on what you ultimately want from this show.

Absolutely, S7 has two or three of the show's all-time best episodes.

Only season 7 dont watse your time with season  8. The Starlight episodes 2 of the spike episodes and one rainbow dash episodes are the only good episodes of season 8.

Season 7- I'd advise skipping a few of the earlier episodes (3-10), but aside from that stretch the season was pretty good. 

Season 8- I'm not as sure. The season has a lot of consistency issues, not to mention the mane six here weren't handled well.

Season 8 was by far the weakest. However there's a few gems like "the sound of silence" and "what lays beneath" that are worth the watch. The new holiday special "best gift ever" is awesome. Dare I say 20% cooler than even the best episodes of the early season.

Even though the writing isn't as great as compared to Seasons 1-4, the newer season are still fun to watch! Season 6 may have been the worst season from what others may say, but I personally enjoyed it. My opinion goes for the same with Season 8. Many of us are going to remain watching this show until we get G5.

If you ask me, it's the opposite. Seasons 1-3 are good, but Seasons 4-8 are much better written, more consistent, and more mature.

Seems right too. I like Season 4 the most thanks to Twilight's Kingdom! To me, the newer seasons seem more adventurous instead of feeling girly or educational. But that's probably just me.

To me, Season 7 felt like a better version of Season 6. But I did enjoy Shadow Play as it introduced one of my favorite characters, Somnambula!

In my personal opinion, I have to disagree. I have to say Season 3 is the worst of them all. Half the standard season and had episodes like Spike at your service. The best season? I still would have to say either 4 or 5. Both have a special place in my heart.

I figure I'll give season 8 a watch. I've heard a few people say the Mane 6 weren't handled well character wise, and while I realize that writing isn't perfect and fluctuations happen, I didn't want to spend time watching a season and "hoping it would get better" and then regretting my time spent. If anything, I'll play a couple of episodes while I clean or something and see what I think! thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Those two seasons are hardly my favourites in the show, but they have some pretty satisfying highlights. You probably have the right idea with giving them a try but not committing.

Season 6 may be the weakest of S5-S8. But the episodes of The Crystaling, The Gauntlet of Fire, Saddle Row Review, Flutter Brutter, Heartswarming Tale, Times They Are a Changeling, Dungeons and Discords, and To Where and Back Again made me glad I saw them.
