general media 2019: The Year of Good byes for many franchises

And it's not just My Little Pony.  This year will mark the end of many other Movies and/or TV Shows.

For fans of How to Train your Dragon, this week will see the release of How to Train your Dragon: The Hidden World.  The series has started since early this decade with the first movie.  In addition to having a second movie, it also got its own Animated Series that aired on Cartoon Network and Netflix, with a total of eight seasons and 118 episodes.  In the end, it's tough to say goodbye to a successful franchise(And this coming from someone who saw the first two films)

Another show that's ending this year is the Big Bang Theory.  The first Season aired in 2007, and they are already in the middle of airing its final season.  Though the spin-off series Young Sheldon will continue, the Big Bang Theory will end its 12 year run sometime before September.  And the funny thing is that my parents are a fan of the series.

Of course, there's another that must be brought up: The Avengers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  It was in 2008 that Iron Man hit movie theaters and became a surprise hit, kickstarting the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Though the MCU will continue on after Avengers: Endgame releases in theaters, one thing is clear.  The era that brought us Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye will come to a close with the final battle against Thanos.

And of course, Star Wars.  Mainly the Skywalker saga, which started with A New Hope.  Star Wars: Episode 9, for better or worse, will air this December.  Once that has arrived in theaters, that's it.  And that's not the only piece of Star Wars Media that will end as well.  This year, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will come back for one more season, tying up any loose ends that were left behind when Season 6 aired on Netflix back in 2014.

Which of these shows will you miss after this year is over?  Did I miss any?

Can't say I'm aching to see Episode IX, The Last Jedi pretty much torpedo'd any interest and good will I had in the future of the franchise.

Definitely interested in the conclusion to MLP and Avengers. As much grievances I've had with MLP in recent seasons and while I still have doubts and worries on how S9 will turn out, it's still been a wild ride and I hope the staff can give the show and all the characters the send off they deserve. As for Avengers, I've been on since the very beginning with Iron Man and the MCU has given me a lot of fun memories and characters, and 10+ years leading up to Endgame a lot is on the line and I can't wait to see how it'll all pan out. Yes I know the MCU will continue on, but I've been on the train for so long I'll probably take a break from the MCU after the original Avengers stories are over, and will probably only stick around for Spider-Man movies and the inevitable X-Men

Unless it is for something absolutely abhorrent, I try to not celebrate if any show gets canceled because I know it has fans regardless of my tastes.

Hoooooooowever.....Big Bang Theory, I will be celebrating when that dreadful waste of existence goes off the air. Watched several episodes over the years. Not ONCE has this show EVER made me chuckle. Not even slightly. I can acknowledge that even some really stupid shit can make me laugh sometimes, but BBT is something special. It manages to be completely void of any sense of 'comedy' while at the exact same time clearly thinking it is the most clever thing on the planet. All for what, making nerdy references and being all about 'nerd culture'? Something that pretty much stopped being a thing after the 90's because nowadays anyone can be considered a nerd for something. Sheldon is a character I definitely consider insufferable as well.

I will be very happy seeing this comedy destroying black hole come to an end. See, by the show's standard, what I just said should be the funniest thing ever. Because it references space and space is super nerdy and thus I am being super witty and har har har.

Most of this doesn't really affect me at all. I'll be GLAD when Big Bang Theory is gone, I never really cared for the MCU as a whole, and I never really got to see How to Train Your Dragon. I saw it once, but I don't remember giving it a fair shake. As for Star Wars, while there was quality there, Disney once again screwed up something that was once great. It's what Disney's become really good at. Using other people's IPs for their money-grubbing scheme to try to circumvent monopoly laws. As for Star, the third season totally turned me off to the series. As far as I'm aware, the series finished at Battle For Mewni, and the episodes afterwards have been very much sub-par by the standard of the first 2 seasons.

Oh and this year should also see the last Toy Story movies (though there isn't any confirmation on whether or not they're making a fifth movie). THAT will be something. Oh and also the end of FiM will be something. But when one thing ends, another can begin. Most of these overstayed their welcome, so I'm not feeling to sore from all of this.

I've been missing Star Wars ever since it ended in 2005. The Disney version will continue but that just isn't the same.

I will miss How To Train your Dragon too. I love those movies and the TV series' as well.

My Little Pony will go on as a franchise, it's just Friendship is Magic that's ending, not My Little Pony. :P Otherwise, I agree in saying good riddance to The Big Bang Theory, I feel The Avengers have had a good run, I don't want How to Train Your Dragon to be milked like Dreamworks franchises tend to be, and I also agree in saying that Star Wars lost its touch after The Last Jedi and Solo. Game of Thrones is based off of just one novel in a book series, making an eight-season run impressive, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil, after keeping up with it for three seasons straight, is something I'm glad will end when it does so long as it does so in a satisfying way. You can tell I like to look more on the positive side with shows ending so long as the reason for them ending wasn't complete rubbish. I've just grown much more supportive of new content being made in favor of running old content into the ground, I don't want to feel like an old man stuck in the past.

Definitely MLP!

I honestly just got into How to Train Your Dragon during the hype for the third movie. I've seen all three movies and now I want to watch the series. I really like that it's one continuous timeline unlike so many franchises.

I liked the Big Bang Theory more than a lot of people but it was time for it to end. It was better when it was a show about nerds rather than a relationship comedy about normalizing the nerds as much as possible.

The MCU was pretty great but I'm fine with it ending. I doubt the Phase 4 will have the same impact. I think the superhero era is almost over.

As far as I'm concerned Star Wars ended in 2012. I miss it but I still have more books to read.

The Toy Story series also ended this year with the fourth film.

Disney's last film on non-4K Blu-ray for within the 2010s, The Lion King, is now in stores.

The Walt Disney Signature Collection will be complete anytime soon.

Yes, definitely! I subsist on the classic Star Wars books, especially the really old ones. I could read those over and over forever!

Big Bang Theory being gone causes me great joy. That was a chasm of unfunny jokes and unlikable characters. You could hear the laugh track because nobody, except my parents apparently, thought that garbage was funny. It wasn't even accurate at portraying 'nerd culture' and makes nerds look like insufferable twats or creepy assholes. Nice to have that slap in the face to nerds everywhere out of active seasons, but it will live on perpetually through re-runs. ugh.

Am gonna miss MLP though. Here's hoping G5 is just as good.

If you asked me, all the old Star Wars expanded Universe stuff was made by too many different people, creating a lot of conflicting canon, so I can understand why Disney declared most of that stuff to be alternative Universe. Now they could be more consistent. It's important to understand why certain choices like that were made rather than complaining all the time.

As a nerd, I can confidently say, that actually describes plenty of us. Not all of course, but definitely a noticeable chunk. They just made it exaggerated for the sake of comedy in BBT.

But yeah, I actually enjoyed Big Bang Theory. My mom really liked it too. I never sought it out to watch it, but when I did see it, it made me laugh. So I’m cool with it.

I can say that it does not describe that many people. I work in an office of nerds. Only ONE among us is legitimately creepy. So I'd say your thesis doesn't hold up to empirical evidence.

That’s good for you then. I was mostly referring to people online. Few people have the gall to act the way they do online in person. I have met and observed many, MANY creeps and @$$hats that happened to share nerd interests with myself.

Though it’s not the interest that caused it of course. These types of people would likely be sucky no matter what they were into. For example, the “jerk jock” stereotype.

Big Bang Theory and MLP are the ones I care about the most. BBT has been one of my favorite sitcoms since I started watching back in 2012, and I teared up at the end of the series finale for it. Of course I bawled my eyes out for a good 10 minutes after the Friendship is Magic series finale went off.

There was a lot of effort to plan out the story arcs and fix any inconsistencies. Disney just lets their hack directors run wild.

I’m surprised nobody has said Steven Universe. As for the other shows and movies aside from MLP, I’m not a fan, but other people were. Additionally that’s jobs lost when those shows go off the air, so I don’t revel in franchises coming to an end, because it’s surely hard on someone.

The original Expanded Universe was diverse and didn’t always have the best guidance by the publisher’s board rooms, but they were more consistent than you’re giving them credit for. And the books, especially in the early days, were fresh, original and fun. I understand all too well why Disney put the EU under the banner of Star Wars ‘Legends.’ But it’s not so much out of a desire to bring uniformity to the work for the sake of art as it is a typical Disney maneuver to reshape Star Wars into something they could control and manipulate for highest possible profits. I’m well-versed in all things Star Wars and Disney, and my opinion (which didn’t even resemble a complaint) is well-founded, and preferable to blindly accepting and defending everything Disney does, right or wrong, just because I’m a fan. I do like some of Disney’s Star Wars books, but not nearly as much as some of the older stuff. Simple as that, no complaint, just opinion.

Okay, you make it sound like Disney only care about themselves. And that's the notion I strongly disagree with. It's wrong to blame the entire company for a wrong action when, if you ask me, you should put the blame on the individual person who made the terrible decision.

I would choose your words carefully because right now, you make me seem like a blind fan just because I'm a fan. Look even I can accept the company making bad choices. For example"What did you do to King Stephan and the 3 good fairies in Maleficent?"

I'm not going to be treated like a fool for still accepting Disney in spite of their "selfish" choices. This should be opinion that matters, not what's objectively good or bad writing. In fact, I find people who enjoy what's hated by majority of viewers as it makes genuinely ask what is it about those "hated" choices, characteristics, etc. that the viewer likes about it. I can accept you don't like what Disney's doing right now as long as you can accept I'm not just a blind fan; I know Disney made some disagreeable choices, but honestly, with a guy like me you have to really screw up for me to hate something when it comes to fictional media, like Maleficent 2014

And this message applies to all fandoms, and including the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling recently. Right now, the controversy doesn't me in the slightest and that's my opinion.

I hope the indent of my message got through well. Respect others' opinions and accept that the minority who like the "bad stuff" are just as real fans as anyone else as long as they're not bashing on other fans.

As a Disney fan, you of all people should know that nothing comes out of that company that doesn't pass through the boardroom and endless review by committee. they're the most calculating and self-serving company in the world and anyone can see it. I don't care if it's true though because I like a lot of it anyway. I'm just calling it the way I perceive it, right or wrong.

I'm completely fine with that and I totally agree. It's good that you're a dedicated fan who is hard to displease; that's a good quality. But just as you don't wish to be labelled a 'blind fan' I don't want to be judged for 'complaining all the time'. It's a two-way street; you have your opinions and I respect them, just as you should respect mine, whether we agree or not. So let's smoke the peace-pipe and call it a truce, shall we?
