Kamil 315 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 Cons: It's Not Windows so it wont support Windows Only stuff like everything. Fixed that for you. More seriously, a lot of software is not Windows ONLY, and the increasingly popular Unity game engine and Steam distribution platform have both been doing a lot to bring games, at least, to every computer operating system. That said, I use Windows because while not everything is exclusive, nearly everything is compatible with it. Nothing against Linux, I've used it before on occasion a (relatively) long time ago and found it slightly harder to use... and not much else. 1 This space intentionally left blank. Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I use OSX Mountain Lion. It's great for music software. It doesn't run games that well, but, I hope when fighting is magic comes out, it supports Mac OSX. I used to use WIndows Vista, which was a super pain in the flank. I kept on getting blue screens of death and the computer would take forever to process. Yeah, I was just messing with you but what you have now does seem a lot less "Linux is best OS, only fanboys disagree" and more like "It's different, and at least as good as the others, but you can try it much easier than Windows or OSX because it's FREE." Not that it really seemed overall like you were being incredibly biased, just the Pros and Cons section ending with "The only thing Linux can't do is run exclusive software." As a whole it is biased (you prefer Linux, right? It's pretty well hidden but I get that feeling) but it never said that it's the best system for everyone. This space intentionally left blank. Dr. Vojislav Seselj 691 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 My OS History: 2009-2010 Windows XP Feb 2010 - Jun 2010 Win XP - Ubuntu 10.04 LTS dualboot Jun 2010 - present Windows 7 Windows XP is my fave OS, it's 12 years old and it's still used by 39% of all computers. The stability of XP was what kept me loyal to it for years. Ubuntu was a pretty good OS, but my problem was that it kept freezing. So, one day I went to uninstall Ubuntu. Instead of just replacing GRUB with the WinXP MBR, I completely trashed the MBR and somehow wiped C: in the process. So, I panic, and start downloading Win7 off a torrent, and pray to God for no power outages. I wake up at 5 am that morning, burn the Win7 iso to DVD, and then run the setup process. I did a full wipe of my system, and that's the story of how I got Windows 7. Syrchalis 40 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I use Windows 7, before I used XP. Never touched Vista. Mac is out of question for me, as I do like playing games and do a lot of stuff in my PC files so that "all one button"-simplicity of Mac would be a huge hinderance for me. But I am open for Linux, it is somewhat unnecessary for me though, as I can always achieve what I need with Windows. Just if I ever setup a server I will definetely use Linux. Harmonic Revelations 8,835 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 (edited) I used Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit. It's underrated really. People say Windows is horrible but I have never crashed, I run quite fast, and since it's Windows it's compatible with most things I want to do with it. I guess the people who complain run on older systems with insufficient hardware. However on mine I run fast, don't crash, and have a boat load of features. Windows is underrated, even though it's the most popular. I guess what I'm saying is even among people who do use it, it gets more complaints than it deserves. Actually my computer isn't even that good, it's year is 2007, it only has 3 Gigabytes of RAM and such. It has a dual-core processor but Windows 7 ran great on my old single-core processor as well, I only really need to dual-core for gaming. Lost 1,410 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I use Windows 7 64-bit on this build and my previous build, i refuse to use the festering pile of crap that is Windows 8. I've used Linux based OSs and 3 different Mac OSXs, there is nothing a Mac can do better than a windows based computer, and frequently a windows PC will out perform a Mac. Kamil 315 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 Oh yeah, I can go into more detail than just "Windows". I used XP, then Vista came out and I used it and HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. Then 7 came out and it seemed not much different from Vista. And now Windows 8 is out and I intend to install it on my primary computer even though it doesn't have a touchscreen or anything. Milk Wave 454 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 (edited) Fur me, I use Windows home premium 64 bit. For.. Windows 7. Its fast for me, and its all my parents and I lived with in my house. Its pretty simple, so you can usually get to things quicker. It runs games well too, works wonders with my 4 processors and ram. NO. WINDOWS.8. Anyhow, to teh mac's! I tend to think of Mac OSX as a very complicated yet comfortable system. And even though ive never used one, they seem to work fine all around. PROBLEM is: The price for thier computers. I got my gaming laptop for $450. Its a nice HP that was about to leave the store in replacement for the new Windows 8 computers, so my mom and I swiped it up before it left. (I think it only had about 2 hours or so) But anyhow, it has some amazing features. Has a 750 gb hard drive (which has only 679 gb. I hated that so much) 4 AMD A8 4500m 1.9ghz processors, 6gb DDR3 ram, amazing integrated graphics (equal to an AMD radeon HD 7640g) which runs Fallout 3 with mid-high fps, BUT it has horrible internet speed. Yeh. But for $450, that's a steal. Now for a Macbook Pro 15 inch. Eh, mabye $1000-$1500? Seriously, that's a pretty ridiculous amount right there. Even if it lasts you 10 years, it doesnt have much to run high power games. But whatever, I still like macbooks (and I plan to get a colorware Mac Air 13) but just not the price. Linux ive never seen before, so I have no thought whatsoever. -- Bleh.. Im tired and I have to do school. OH but edit: About the Windows systems. Ive been through 4 windows systems. Windows 98, XP, Vista, and 7. I can tell you 2 facts that people say are crap about the Vista and 7 OS's. (Note: the people saying this are super biased to windows XP) People say Windows Vista is super buggy, and its pretty crappy overall. I say ive had no experience with any bugs yet, and ive even checked for them on 2 computers. So I think its actually better then XP. People say Windows 7 is the worst OS ever made, aside from 8. Its not. So I say its a simple debugged version of Windows Vista, and its very nice. I prefer it from Windows XP because finding things on the computer seems so much easier now. Ok so now im doing school. Blgi9euifhuisdhfeuishfjbaufged bbl. gr33nfoxx 2 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I use Windows XP Professional on my HP Pavilion from 2003 ( I REALLY need to upgrade) and Android Jellybean 4.1 on my Galaxy S3. I use my laptop for music software: FL Studio 9 Professional ( soon to be 10), Ableton Live 8 ( no idea how to use it quite yet) and Cubase 5 (haven't installed it yet). Every once in awhile, I'll tether my phone and use my laptop to jump on here, but because it's so old it cant handle anything non-music related. Creamy Arty 6,252 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 (edited) Primarily, Linux. Specifically the KDE edition of Linux Mint on my desktop and the XFCE edition on my laptop. In the past I've also used vanilla Debian, Ubuntu, and Gentoo. All of them are fine, but Mint is just my preference. I also keep a partition for Windows 7 on both machines for all of my modern gaming needs. There's also a small, about 20 gigs, Windows XP partition for some ancient things that don't care for 64-bit operating systems. People say Windows Vista is super buggy, and its pretty crappy overall. I say ive had no experience with any bugs yet, and ive even checked for them on 2 computers. So I think its actually better then XP. People say Windows 7 is the worst OS ever made, aside from 8. I don't know many people who hate Windows 7, but Vista still gets an undeserved amount of it. They've patched it up into a respectably efficient operating system. Windows 8 isn't terrible. The interface is the only thing I don't like. Under the hood they've made some worthwhile improvements over Windows 7. Nothing they couldn't have worked into 7 with a huge service pack, however. Syrchalis 40 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I am not sure who said that Vista was buggy or 7 bad but they sure as hell have no clue. The real problem with Vista is that it's unnecessary complicated where it should be easy and simplified where more complexety was needed. But the number one problem why all hate Vista is because it's SLOW. XP has a extremely good performance and so does 7. Windows 7 needs just slightly more time than XP for most tasks, unlike Vista which is partially so much slower than XP that you feel like your PC is lacking. As for Windows 8 - I only change my OS when I entirely wipe my drive or setup a new PC, I never change it just because a new comes out.

I really really like windows 7 I heard Microsoft made a Windows 8 and I don't really know allot about it but I like 7 Windows 8 is generally an operating system which has a similarity to the tablet and such. It's originally made for touch screen computers, so I would use it if I had one. Its very convenient because some new laptops are now having flip-E touch screens to be like a tablet because of Windows 8. 1 A shoutout to Dr-Whooves for making this sweet thing~ Anyway, go ahead and visit my http://mlpforums.com/user/380-sirius-crescent/'>About Me page for my characters :3 Engaged to Steel Crescent as of 5/1/2013
Commander Urdnot 2,680 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I use whatever operating system comes with the computer I buy. For a couple of reasons. Reason #1: It's free. I don't feel like paying hundreds of dollars for a new OS. Reason #2: I don't feel like having to reinstall all of those drivers. Reason #3: I'm lazy. Syrchalis 40 January 14, 2013 Share January 14, 2013 I didn't even see 8 yet... I'm so stuck with 7. *g* Well but from what you guys say it just makes me stay with my tactic even more - new PC new OS, but not change without getting a new computer. That saved me from Vista by the way, as I didn't get a new PC in that time.
