Dropped the spoilers tag for safety, but this just showed up on the Hub's Facebook page:

Princess Sparkle, in all her adorable glory.

BEFORE ANYONE STARTS COMPLAINING:

Have some faith in the writers. They've done an excellent job up until this point, and for all we know (and it actually would be a fitting story twist): perhaps 1) Twilight's powers are temporary (Celestia is sick and has to let Twilight take care of things for a day?), or 2) perhaps she gives them up in favor of her friends. Both of those options would seem like very standard things to do in a children's cartoon.

Whatever the case, I'm sure it will be very enjoyable either way, and I'm genuinely looking forward to it.

I gotta say, I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this to be exciting. I really can't wait to see how this whole thing turns out myself :3

Also yes, Twilight Sparkle looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING as an Alicorn, I kind of don't care what anyone else says :P

I don't think it'll be temporary...

“She was set up from the very beginning to be on an important journey,” explains MLP head writer Meghan McCarthy. “It’s really about her earning this new status by combining all the things that we’ve seen her learn over the course of the series.”

I'm sure a bunch of you are on Reddit, so you've probably already seen this article, but here it is anyway.

Yes, I've seen that. Either way, I won't be that surprised, EIther they follow the previous generations and make all of the ponies princesses, or they take the generic cartoon route and make her give it up for a generous cause.

"You may bring your urgent matter before your new princess."

I suspect now the hornet's nest has been whacked sufficiently hard enough to get Bronies going bananas. I'm also going to go out on a limb and state that this will be a cliffhanger episode, further tantalizing us with the prospect of Princess Twilight Sparkle usurping the throne of Asgard Equestria.

She looks so cute as a princess

Seriously though it's not the end of the world for anyone who was saying this is a mistake, hopefully it's temporary, but really it's not too much of a big deal.

Once again ERMERGERD I love that picture of her already

Take a deep breath before posting guys, because the statuses EXPLODED with people's initial reactions a couple minutes ago.

Think about it:

People freaked out over that new princess they were going to add, and we got Cadence and Shining Armor. People freaked out over Discord becoming good, and it ended up being a terrific episode. Why would Alicorn Twilight be any different?

The staff have been working together to create the magic that is My Little Pony ever since Season 1. I have complete faith in them.

I put all of my faith in the show writers. We won't know what's going to happen until the episode airs so who knows what they are going to do with Alicorn Twi. I for one, wouldn't mind the transformation being permanent. How could you say no to an adorable face like that  ^_^

I also don't understand all of the butthurt bronies out there who say that they're going to stop watching the show. So she becomes an Alicorn, so what? Even if her appearance is different, she's still the same adorakable, egg-head Twi that we have grown to love :P.

I didn't know they made all of the ponies princesses in the last gens... Wow. G4 quality writing spoiled me. I hope they don't do that, at least. @_@

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if she gave it up either, but I kiiind of hope she doesn't, if only to spare the show from a bad/rushed season finale (Legend of Korra, anyone?). The show alluded to Twilight being groomed for royal responsibilities since the very beginning, so if they throw all of that away it will have to be done carefully. "NAW, PRINCESS, KEEP YO CROWN, I JUST WANNA CHILL WITH MY FRIENDS LOL" wouldn't be Twilight's personality...

What kind of thing do you think could make Twilight reasonably give up her princessy responsibilities?

This might be unlikely, but I'd just like to point out that it could just be in a dream or something that she becomes an Alicorn princess. At any rate, I doubt it will be permanent, although I may be biased by the fact that I really don't want it to be permanent.

Not being able to take her friends with her, and not getting any time to herself to spend with those friends even if they do go with her. That would seem like a very plausible reason to me.

Wow... after getting over my initial shock, I can now honestly say that Twilight looks gorgeous as an alicorn! I hope it'll just be a one-time thing and the transformation won't be permanent. As great are the writers are, I don't think having one of the Mane Six as an alicorn on a full-time basis will endear them to the audience. It's risky and the amount of credentials they need to be drawn up has to be limited because otherwise, they'll give off the nasty Mary Sue vibe.

But yes, she is damn beautiful.

(I'm playing devil's advocate for the sake of discussion, I promise I'm not trying to be an argumentative jerk!)

I'm still skeptical if only because they spent 3 seasons building up to her becoming a princess. Do you think her alicorn status would last into the next season? I don't really care for the idea of her becoming an alicorn and then losing her princess status within one episode, but the writers ARE competent. So it might work.

I dunno. *rolls away*  B)

I sure hope it isn't permament, because if it is, it might just as well mark the end of the show. I mean Twilight turning into an alicorn really feels like an ending thing, because Twilight probably won't be in Ponyville anymore. Even though this seems like a strange complain, I hope they don't make her neck and legs like 5 meters long or something, it would look terrible

i genuinely hope this isnt the end of the series, this is probably going to be the season 3 finale, they wouldnt do this in mid series.

I had my books to read, didn't know that I would ever need

I'm going to run with the theory that, assuming its not a temporary affair, she hasn't got the abilities of a full blown Alicorn and that will involve continuing her studies, and also mean she won't be over powered.

We'll see if it turns out that way.

Also I have to point out; who said that all Alicorns become royalty? I think we've all assumed that there doesnt seem to be any real evidence of that.

Guys. this is not a big deal. The only certainty is that Twilight is gonna sprout a pair of wings

Who says she is going anywhere after that? I certainly haven't seen anything past that, so I would assume that for season 4, she will be back in ponyville, just with a pair of wings.

for !!SCIENCE!!

Hello!

I don't like it, but there's nothing we can do about it now :/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e7URiws31k

I'll probably be panicing the whole time up until the episode airs ^_^ . I just don't see the logic, in how "Ability" could make someone a princess... She has nothing to do with the bloodlines, nothing. It just doesn't make sence... What will anyone gain from this?

Oh well, guess i'll have to see how it ends. Wouldn't want to jump to conclusions now.
