What if...Spike was a pony?

A little thought what if spike was not a dragon and was changed into a pony what would his cutie mark be what color would he be. Would he be a Pegasus or a unicorn or maybe an earth pony this is an interesting thought i had...

An interesting question. I'd be curious to see if his relationship and interactions with any of the Mane Six would change, and how. Maybe he'd have more of a chance for getting Rarity to go out with him if he were a pony xP

My guess is that he would be a pegasus pony with a scroll in green fire for a cutie mark. Besides his magic fire breath, there is not enough magic in him to be a unicorn.

Pretty much this. 

 

He would most likely have some kind of arrangement of the same colours he already is. In what order, I'm unsure. Probably green mane + tail, like most would assume. I'm thinking he'd still be a colt, though. After all, he's only one year old... So he won't be able to fly even though he's a pegasus. Just like Scootaloo! My guess is, he would be a little more "respected", though I don't believe he's all that disrespected as is. He would just fit in more, probably.

I'd go with a cmc aged Unicorn. Don't see why he should be a Pegasus when he has no wings as a dragon. His talent would be the use of transportation magic(of no living objects?) and since he's relativly young, that's all he's good at. Same colour scheme as he has no ofc.

As far as I'm concerned, Spike is a pony. He's grown up with them, most of his friends are ponies, they all consider him one of the gang and after the events of Dragon Quest, even he called himself a pony. Which I thought was very cool. If he were physically a pony though...probably earth, same colors.

If spike was a pony, I bet his cutie mark is a picture of a letter or a fire. Spiky Wiky will be about the same age as the cutie mark crusaders or maybe younger.

If Spike was a pony, then he'd be a very spiky pony. As for what kind of pony... I'd guess a pegasus pony since dragons practically don't have any magic. Instead, they're resistant to it, which is further proof, that he'd be a pegasus pony since pegasi are also quite resistant to magic (if you believe all those fantasy games like Fire Emblem).

I agree with TailsAlone Spike is pretty much already a pony mentally speaking as he acts nothing like the dragons we've seen (in Dragonquest). If he were physically a pony i do see him more as a  unicorn than a pegasus because first of all we he has no wings (not sure if he will ever grow some or not) and he breathes magical fire not normal fire so it would make more sense he would be a unicorn.  Personally i would like to see an episode where Spike does turn into a pony so we would see everyones perespective of him since he's phsyically a pony now (yeah he needs to turn back into a dragon by the end). Of course His cutie mark would be a scroll as we've seen multiple times he's pretty good at sending those things.

I think he would be a pegasus. As we've already seen, dragons can be very diverse in appearance, but we don't yet know if there are distinct dragons species. It could be that Spike doesn't have wings yet because of his age, or it could be because he belongs to a flightless breed. The former is what I like to believe.

 

Obviously it would change his perspective on the world a bit just because of the physical differences, but I wonder if he would be treated any differently by Twilight and the others. I know they care about him because of the party they threw for his birthday, but he's ignored more often than not. Would extra attention start making him rethink the nature of his relationship with his pony friends, causing him to wonder how much they really care about him for who he is versus things more material, like his appearance or his usefulness? I hope they explore that someday.

I think he would probably be considered more of an adult. As dragons and ponies age very differently, and he hatched when Twilight was a filly, he'd probably be the pony equivalent of a teenager. That makes me wonder, if Spike was always a pony, would that make Twilight's school entrance exam helping Spike's mother give birth? 

 

As for if the Mane 6 would change him any differently, I think that Twilight would consider him less of a letter-writing assistant and more of a brotherly room mate. His relationship with Rarity would also probably be way farther than it is now, assuming he would be considered an adult by her and you know...they're both the same species now. 

 

Spike changing into a pony for an episode (whether intentionally or not) is actually an episode I want to see really badly.

This is probably my favorite interpretation of what Spike should look like as a pony.  His relationship with twilight would probably be made better, and seeing as he would be a pony, he would have a shot at rarity.

Anyway, what if that happened?

This is just a what if question, because it will never, ever happen.

But, what if it did happen?  I would imagine Spike purple, of course, with a spiky green mane, and a scroll as his cutie mark. But, he would be a colt instead of a full grown stallion, so Rarity wouldn't work out still.

But, what about Sweetie Belle? XD

I actually think it would be an interesting plot, if Spike turned into a pony, by Twilight, to fit in better and through the course of the episode realises that he doesn't need to be a pony, and is actually more comfortable with who he is as a dragon, which ultimately prompts him to turn back into the Spike we all know and like.

Anyways, I think that would be really interesting to see. I honestly don't see why the show's writers couldn't make that work, because I personally would love it if that happened and it's not entirely nonsensical or impossible to occur. Look back to Twilight's transformation spell. I could imagine Twilight messing up her transformation spell and accidentally making Spike become a pony.

 

It could be cannon, you never know. I think would be an interesting idea nonetheless.

I agree, if Spike were to become a pony, he would also be a unicorn. I had a discussion about this in another forums some time ago where we were discussing about the different types of dragons and how they're similar to the types of ponies wherein some are able to fly and others are on the ground. By that logic, there's the air dragons and earth dragons (and you could also say water dragons just like there are sea ponies but that's another story). However, Spike's flames also have a magical property that hasn't been seen in other dragons, hinted by the fact Spike's flames can teleport Twilight's letters to Celestia and vice versa.

 

I'm also with Nomadic that it would make for a really interesting story wherein Spike further attempts to discover his self-identity and eventually realizes how much more comfortable he is as a dragon as opposed to a pony after trying to fit in. That being said, despite having a dragon's body, Spike is already more Pony than Dragon in terms of character, which is strongly hinted at the end of Dragon Quest.

The idea in general is not necessarily bad as an episode idea, I think. But not as a permanent change. That'd better be him having a not greed related growth spurt, or something like that.

 

And if we saw him as a pony, hmmm... Maybe an unicorn, or an earth pony, but maybe even a "dragonified" pony. I mean, even his dog design from Equestria Girls (Ugh!) was not as dog like as Winona's, for example.
