Simple enough topic here.

I've seen the word "brony" being used many times - obviously - but every time I see it used it comes up in a different way.

Some people capitalize the term like it's a proper noun, some people spell it with an "ie" on the end "bronie." Some people pluralize without the "ie" to "bronys."

And lets not forget that goddam tyrant of spelling...brownie...im not even going to contemplate that as an option. It's a food people!

And frankly it drives me up the goddamn wall. So i'm asking you now, what is the correct spelling of the word? Personally, I would say it should be an uncapitalised "brony" plural "bronies"

I just want to see what makes people spell the same word a million different ways, and your arguments on to whether or not it should be capitalised. (I do believe there is already a thread about that though...)

'Brony' for one person, 'Bronies' for the plural. Either way I don't mind what's capitalized and what's not because the internet is full of mistakes, people tend to type fast and make mistakes without realizing so it shouldn't bother you.

What annoys me are the grammar nazis who correct everyone's comments on the internet, I know it's a joke but it's just one of those jokes that get old and annoying at a point.

The plural bit of your poll is a bit redundant, no?

Just as said above me. I don't really care though. If you can be understood, it's fine.

You're correct, the correct singular spelling is 'brony' and the plural is 'bronies'; you have forgotten that 90% of the Internet doesn't know how to use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.

The correct term is brownie. From what I've heard.

No but seriously brony is singular, bronies is plural, and lower-case since it's not a proper-noun.

Also both plural options are the same.

For singular "brony"; plural is "bronies". Though I not to bothered by the way others may spell the term. "Brownie" is sort of an exception because I will always first read that as the food and that will always bother my a bit.

I made Brownie up, no one even says that. So you're good as far as that goes. No one calls bronies brownies. (Unless they are mentally ill)

Say what you will, I dont mind. But I will say i'm not a grammar Nazi, I just went to school. I was raised and taught to use proper spelling, punctuation, grammar and while we're at it - manners too. I don't overly mind when people make mistakes, but it's when the mistakes are so blatantly obvious and repetitive it's almost like they're trying to do it on purpose. Like per se, when people use "their" for everything. There's a difference between they're, there and their, is there not?

Plural...plural *facehoof* Derp on my part...sorry :P See? Everyone makes mistakes and i'm totally cool with that, just at least try and learn from it, for the benefit of our generation. (But it IS 4am here...cut me some slack lol)

I'm sure I can find you some mindless YouTube arguing where people have wrote it as "brownie" don't worry. It's there though isn't it? "YouTube". Actually, I think i've seen it used on this forum once or twice before.

( Sees a crowd of insane sweet tooth that saw brony misspelled as " brownie". They look at us hungrily) Oh no... EVERY PONY, RUN!!!!

I don't mind if "brony" is capitalized or not. I do agree with the vast majority on the singular and plural prams though.

you mean this isnt a thread about Brownies? I feel so mislead and betrayed by the forums. *emo mode activated* Bronies is the plural form of Brony. example Bronies and their lifestyle is one that i wish i had.

The way I've seen it spelled many times before, it's capitalized. It ends with a -y in singular form, and it ends with -ies in plural form. "Brony", "Bronies".

I voted for the common combination if Brony-Bronies, then voted "Yes" for capitals.

Why? I like to capitalize stuff like "German", "Asian", "African American", etc. Then I just randomly feel that it's proper to capitalize the term due to these.

Brony, because well, isn't that what it's supposed to be spelled like

Bronies, because it's really just proper grammar

Capitalization doesn't really matter to me

But I like to spell it with capitals

Because I'm kind of a capitalization obssesed person

I don't care about capitalization really, I mean people make mistakes anyways, but the spelling should be Singular "Brony" And plural "Bronies" But I think it should still be capitalized in most sentences since its a title in my eyes. But I'm not a grammar nazi so I won't care.

The spelling kinda matters to me though.

For the first vote, mine is obviously brony. Second, Bronies (duuuh). Third, yeah, I think it should have capitals. I mean, it's a term for a group, right? And people of groups (like Trekkies) are usually capitalized. So why can't ours be, too?

Well, I don't really mind, but for the second vote it should always be 'bronies'. IT the right way to say it. Same with the first one. ;)

  • 11 years later...

1. Definitely "brony". The word it's based on is "pony", not "ponie".
2. "Bronies" for the same reason.
3. I wouldn't capitalize it – it doesn't really bother me when others do, but I think it looks a bit awkward.

I saw someone outside the fandom spell it "bronie", I'm glad to know I'm not the only one bothered by that (even if that was 11 years ago). :P
