Never have I seen Derpy's, well, derpiness spoken of in a negative light. She's cross-eyed, so what?

 

I've never seen her insulted for being cross-eyed. It's just a character trait people acknowledge, and it makes her that more notable and entertaining. I mean, c'mon. Her few seconds of screentime in the latest episode were awesome.

 

Never is it implied that Derpy is mentally retarded or anything of the sort. In fact, her voice just sounds like a normal voice, not DARRRRRP WHERE DID I GO WRONG DAAAAAH. She's never treated "like an idiot".

 

Honestly, if anything, I find Ditzy more offensive than Derpy. When I think Derpy, I just think silly, stuff like that. When I think "Ditzy", I think of the "promiscuous blonde bimbo" stereotype. Phrases like "She's a blonde ditz". In fact, Wikitionary's definition is....

Ditzy doo. Poor Ditzy Doo. How would you like it if, just because someone took a bad picture of you, everyone treated you like an idiot and called you names so much that even your friends started to do it (referring to hasbro making it canon)? Nopony should have that done to them.

 

One eye muscle twitch and everyone started treating her horribly. One mistake, or even worse if it was a joke, from the animators completely ruined Ditzy's life. She doesn't deserve that.

We as fans gave those recognizable characters a name, a fanon name. Those background characters wasn't even meant to be named. We gave them name because we simply sees them as lovable and "oh wow! I can made some cool stuff out from this characters"

Ah yes, I remember a discussion about this on chat a while ago... It’s completely ridiculous in my opinion. Derpy is the best for being who she is. Like mentioned earlier on, Peter & Patrick wouldn't be as popular as they are today if they didn't have those crazy characteristics. It's just a part of the characterization, nothing more.

I don't see why you assume we think she is stupid, klutziness and stupidity are two very different things.

 

I will use a roleplaying analogy to explain my thoughts:

 

Lets say you are making a character in D&D, you roll your abilities (strength, dexterity, etc.) and you get fairly high rolls except for one. Lets take it a step further and say you are playing a wizard, so your intelligence is your most important ability. You slot your highest roll into intelligence, and end up leaving your lowest roll for dexterity. You're going to end up with a very intelligent, but klutzy wizard. Does his/her klutziness make them stupid? No, not at all.

First off, that is quite rude insulting our intelligence and not the best way to try to win us over. Perhaps instead of only posting similar messages of "you aren't getting it," tell us why you truly feel she is being treated badly. I myself have not seen any evidence of actual malicious actions, but perhaps if you have then you could direct us to it.

 

I am as likely to stand up for the downtrodden as anypony, but I really don't see it as her being made fun of. Her characteristics are as endearing as any of the other characters', she is who she is and we like her for that. You say we aren't paying attention to the true topic, yet I feel that other posters have hit the nail on the head.

 

If you are a sincere in your opinions then please don't attack us for ours. I personally believe that nopony here makes fun of Derpy maliciously, so don't assume differing opinions=love making fun of Derpy. If you are not sincere and are simply a troll go out and do something productive please.

 

Also, like some other posters have stated, this is just a cartoon. Even if you are right and we are making fun of her, most media involves making fun of others for a multitude of reasons. It is unavoidable in a free-thinking world, or in the words of Forrest Gump "It happens."

A character is a person or thing with "caharacteristics." If Derpy was the same as the Mane 6, she probably wouldn't be very fun to watch. Actually, let's rip apart their personalites until we come down to what the show is all about. "Next week on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, ponies doing NOTHING. You don't know me too well. I've already done that. Heck, I even went on a chat trying to impersonate Darkwing Duck and proudly announced "I am the terror that faps in the night." I've already made myself look like an idiot, and I don't hate it, at all. Actually, I think its kind of fun, if I make people laugh, even by accident, I enjoy every moment of it.

 

I think the point of my two posts is this, enjoy her for who is is, not who she could be. Ditzy could've been a pony working at Microsoft, Rainbow Dash could be slow, and Twilight could be crazy. It's like the VA debates in both the Sonic and Pokemon fanons, nobody liked the new voices. I saw no problem with them, the characters were still themselves and the story continued. Maybe it is wrong to say Derpy is an idiot or stupid, I think the word that should be used is "special." If you had to describe each pony in one word, how would it go? For me, TS: Smart, RD: Athletic, FS: Shy, AJ: Hard-working, PP: Fun, Rarity: Glamourous, Derpy: Funny. Intentional or not, she makes people laugh, and to me, that's a quality worth having.

 

BTW, sorry if I sound a bit harsh, I tend to do that when I'm debating something..

I guess I can kinda see what the OP is trying to get at. I think he's talking only within the show's universe that Derpy was tagged with an unfair name because her eyes derped that one episode and for that, is being called Derpy. He's not talking about Hasbro or fanon giving her the name, but the ponies inside the show (since Rainbow established her name is Derpy).

 

It might be strange to discuss interactions that we will never see inside the show, but let's just play along
