So regarding the recent Carnival Cruise Liner fire problem, I decided to make a thread about it.

Have you ever been on a cruise, and what do you think about them? Does this affect your thoughts on cruising?

I for one would be fine going on a cruise ship or ocean liner, but not necessarily Carnival.

I think of it the same way i think of flying. Things can go wrong and you should always prepare yourself. Although in the context of a cruise ship its different. When you fly the plane is merely transportation, when you go on a cruise the ship itself -IS- the vacation. I think that Royal Caribbean has always been at the top. I hear Disney Cruise Lines is getting better although it is still very expensive. The best way to go about it is to read reviews people have left and read other people's experiences. Very similar to how people look up hotel rooms. Customer service, Emergency Preparedness, Food Safety etc. I think if you are paying that much for a vacation it best be worth every penny. This is why those reviews hurt those companies later because they hurt business later people wont want to spend that kind of money on a crappy experience. I don't feel comfortable going on a smaller low budget cruise liner. Just like i don't eat at places that don't look up to par.

I hate boats, whether it be a cruiseship, a ferry, a canoe, anything really. They make me seasick.

If I ever went to vacation, I would have just picked a city with history and awesome food

I have been on a cruise before, and loved it. However, I've only been once. I feel like the events only happen to that cruise line. I thy fix the ships, then I feel like they'll be safe again.

Hi there!

I love cruises! I've been on three cruises in my life - inter-Caribbean on the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Ocean, when I was seven;  Central America on the Carnival Ecstasy, when I was ten; and my favourite, from Rome to Greece to Turkey and Cyprus on the Celebrity Equinox just last year.  I'm going on another Celebrity cruise, the Solstice, this year for its maiden voyage into Alaska!  Yee-haw!

Eh, I haven't been on a cruise per say, but I've been on a boat before and to be honest I always feel as if I'm on a mountain when I'm on a boat, I dunno why. But considering I'm scared of heights its very uncomfortable.

So to be honest I'm not that enthused to go on it. Who knows though.

My step brother was actually a cruise director for a while for the royal caribbean cruise line.

As for myself, I've only ever been on one cruise in Alaska. My step brother made all the accomodations and made sure we had a great time. The trip was great, there were so many fantastic pictures I took there although I had a pretty poor camera at the time. I would love to go back with my DSLR some day just to take more pictures, the scenery was incredible.

Also, if you ever go to Icy Strait Point, go on the zipline. It is very scary, especially if it's your first time, but the view is worth the fear. It's also something I will only ever do once.

As for the ship itself, everything was very comfortable and the best way to describe the inside is a classy hotel on the water. It was extremely comfortable and there really wasn't that much rocking. The entertainment was funny and there were some informative parts like when someone did a talk about glaciers.

All in all, I'd do it again. It was a lot of fun.

I say maybe because, it depends on the company or which company that is running the cruise. Pretty much, since I heard the Carnival Cruise Liner problem I'm at mixed thoughts. If the service is good, and we get enough food, good sanitation, and have a good time I will not mind taking a cruise at all. Besides, I need one because of stress in school.

I said "maybe, depending on which company runs the cruise." I'll be honest: I've always wanted to go on a Disney cruise. Not just for the nostalgia, as I am a child who was raised on Disney, but I have also heard nothing but good things about the service. The people on the ship are so kind and helpful and they'll go out of their way to make your cruise a nice one. A friend of mine did their Disney Wonder for a family vacation and she couldn't stop raving about the food, the crew, everything! I've also heard a lot of good things about Norwegian Cruise Lines, as well.

I'll totally do a cruise, if I can get the funds. But those pesky student loans hang over my head right now. :(

I've been on the Carnival Victory twice, Carnival Triumph, and Carnival Sensation.  I've also been on the Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas and Holland America Maasdam.  Honestly I wouldn't go on another carnival cruise unless it was on one of the newest ships.  The cheap cruises on the old/small ships just aren't as good as Royal Caribbean or Holland America.   The crowd on the other cruise lines was much more tolerable too..... less drunk partiers.

I have to vote maybe.  I prefer trains to cruise ships because of the scenery.  I also like seeing how railways thread their way through cities, the passage of other trains, and contemplating how improved train service could improve our mobility.

When you look out from a cruise ship, all you see is water.  That would probably bore me after a couple of hours.  There are a lot of things to do ON a ship, but I can do virtually all of those things on dry land for less money.  But if I had a companion who was REALLY into a cruise ship, of course I'd go with her!

 Eh, just kinda indifferent on the whole matter.  I don't think they're dangerous or anything, even after this most recent debacle; just never been on one, and if I ever travel abroad, I probably won't do so by going on a cruise ship, even though honestly Transatlantic/Transpacific flights are probably more dangerous.  Ocean travel's just never been my cup of tea or particularly interested me, so, like I said, it's mostly that I'm just indifferent to cruise travel in general.

Vancouver has a big port and cruise ships do come in alot..but seeing films like titanic and what has happend with that vessel that crashed up against the reef near Italy i'm a little panicky that something like that could happen.

I like cruise ships.I've been on 2 before. They were both pretty cool. But there are 2 things that i don't like.

1.I got seasick one time, and that was'nt very fun.

2.I look down at the ocean and worry that i could fall in there.Who knows? There could be sharks down there.

So i say "yes".

What people don't understand is that what happened to the Triumph is something that is probably 1 in 25,000. In other words, they don't normally break down. This was just a freak accident kind of thing. The only sad part of cruise ships in general is how underpaid the crew are. I didn't know they were paid so low until I heard it on the news. Greedy corporations...

Did you know Carnival owns Costa?   Costa had 2 major issues last year... the death of 36? people when the Concordia's captain messed up ROYALLY! and the Allegra had a fire.

in 2010?  Carnival had another fire in an engine room.

Personally I'd rather spend time on a beach or somewhere I can really roam...  IDK if a cruise would be right for me...  partially due to issues with major crowds.

The accidents and fires really don't effect my opinion for accidents happen in many places... you are more prone to have a car accident then something like this happening... though I'm sure many things go un-reported.

Vancouver has a big port and cruise ships do come in alot..but seeing films like titanic and what has happend with that vessel that crashed up against the reef near Italy i'm a little panicky that something like that could happen.

Titanic was a major freak accident, reports of Ice Fields were ignored, the binoculars were locked up (they didn't have them to search)   An optical illusion is said to of happened due to the cold/ice to where they couldn't see it well, If I recall it was real dark that night.   The type of metal/rivets used were bit brittle, they possibly had coal issues that night.   The type of hole, how the ship was built, lack of lifeboats.

Also there are quite a few inaccuracies in the Titanic movie.

The Concordia's captain ignored rules, things weren't taken care of properly.. they didn't deploy the lifeboats right away, they lied to people as to the problem and so forth.  The Captain deviated from course to do a Sail By or whatever its called... that's why they hit the reef.

BOTH major accidents could have been prevented but arrogance allowed them to happen.  At least Capt. Smith stayed with his ship though...

I've been on one cruise and it was fun and memoriable. I wouldn't go on a cruise now though unless I could somehow go for free... cause thats the only way I could afford it. The rocking motion of the boat is unnerving when you are at port, but once you get out on the water and ship starts moving fast then the rocking stops and you can walk around normally... I do remember the rocking was particuarly bad though. It took serious effort not to fall down and even that wasn't always enough.

I've been on Disney Cruise Lines twice, and absolutely loved it each time. The rocking of the boat at night helps me fall asleep, and there's so much to do during the day. Excellent dining, fun activities, not much of a crowd, and getting to see the world at the same time. I would do it again in an instant.

Yeah... I didn't know either.  I'll tip more if I go on another cruise.

The last vacation I went on was to an all inclusive resort in the caribbean and honestly it was so much better than a cruise that I probably won't be cruising again.  It's so nice to not have a scheduled time to be places and certain dinner times and announcements waking me up at all hours.  All-inclusive resorts are like 4x the price, though... oh well.  WORTH IT

I had been on Carnival Glory back in in the day, and this was before anything happened with Carnival Cruise lines. Now I will stay away from them from recent events. Its funny because i had won a free cruise from Carnival last week, and when i heard about it, i turned it down. I didnt care that it was free or not. i do not want to be on a hellish cruise ship

there flipping nothing to do on a cruise if u aren a little kid(3-12) or 21 and over

so i was 15 when i went on a Royal Caribbean cruise and there was nothing to do no money for arcade so that was out, teens club thing was a room of kid that looked high, so pretty much all my cousins and i did was play mario cart and pokemon on our DSes in my cousins' room, play poker and bs in a playing card room near a bar that not part of the casino and go to the pool at night when ther was no one  so we can have it all to our selves every day for 7 days so it got boring fast

Maybe...it all kinda depends. And no, I have never been on a cruise.

I do know someone who juggles on cruise ships. He does one performance every night I think...the rest of the day he gets to hang out and do whatever he wants on the ship until his performance...and he gets payed, its so awesome  ^_^

Cruise ships are so much fun! I went on the Carnival Elation when I was nearly 12. I don't remember it much, but It was sure so much fun. They had an 24 hour buffet though... That was chaos. I think I gained like 20 pounds, but I was a kid so I didn't worry on so much weight. xD
