Ok... so my question remains:

PRINCESS OF WHAT, EXACTLY?!?!?!

Mine's not "liquid pride", it's "liquid confusion"!!!!!!!

D:

Is she taking over Equestria? Is she replacing Luna and Celestia? If Starswirl was so awesome, why did he suck so bad? WTF?!?!?!?!?! (What the friendship is going on?!?!?)

This episode didn't ANSWER anything!!!! Waaaaaaah!

I don't think she is going to replace princess Celestia. Celestia said "she is ready to be crown Equestria's newest princess" what doesn't mean that she is going to be the ruler of entire equestria. Princess Cadence is one of the princesses of Equestria but she rules the crystal empire, maybe Twilight will rule ponyville and some other places too. Edited by The Twilight Zone

I love the final! I am glad for Twilight, even though, commercials spoiled everything. I think those wings suit her well, even though, I don't think she'll ever be a good flyer.

I just wonder how the season 4 will be when the main character is in royalty. We'll see that.

As for songs... well, it was too much, I agree, but it added to the story. It was a special episode, after all.

I personally thought it was a decent episode.  The songs were good, I would also agree that the episode was a bit short on time when it comes to explaining the situation during the first half of the episode.  Now I have a question:

Is Princess Celestia a Planeswalker?

Idk that scene with Twilight and Celestia in the nether, makes me wonder what other powers she has at her disposal.

Good question.....

I don't know she flew without lessons or a manual...she might be a potential match for my Rainbow Dash!

Very "meh" episode. Nothing really happened aside from the whole Twilight is now an alicorn thing. The problem was fixed in no time and the fact that Hasbro spoiled the only interesting thing about the episode really hurt it. It'd be like if before Empire Strikes Back came out, LucasArts said "Oh by the way, Darth Vader is Luke's father." At points it felt like the series finale or the end of an MLP movie. In all it was, like I said, "meh" which is really disappointing considering the last season finale, Canterlot Wedding, may be my favorite episode of the entire series. Really this episode suffers from the same problem "Keep Calm and Flutter ON" had, it should have been a two part episode, even if we had to wait until season 4 to see the end. Oh well it could have been a lot worse. Season 4 will definitely be...interesting to say the least.

This was a really great episode! The story was a good idea, the jokes were funny, and the song was amazing. Best song of the show now. I do wonder what's is going to come next in season 4. What will Twilight be doing now? I do still wonder why Twilight had to become an alicorn? I guesses only time will tell when we see season 4.

They didn't necessary spoil it, so to speak. What does Twi's spell do? I surely do not know...

You know what I think would be an awesome idea. If she is the ruler of Ponyville. That way she wouldn't have to move to Canterlot or leave her friends.

Mare Mayor is the sole ruler of ponyville! Dont you forget it!

She worked long and hard for that title. Unable to wrap up a single winter on time, you think thats easy?

This was a truly awesome episode. It was almost like a musical. They could probably perform this live with cosplayers and small pyrotechnic effects. It was that epic.

I finally see Princess Celestia's first song. I also noticed they removed the opening theme and subbed it with the first song.

Looks like I got a couple more arrangements to make and piano solos to learn!

Oh...I LOVED the songs in this episode! Just finished watching, and with it being a single episode finale, it was amazing.

I got goosebumps all over when Twilight stated her love for her friends. Also, the songs, and the part where Twilight meets Celestia,...pretty amazing. The episode ran by quick, but I still loved it, and with it being a single episode, it went very very well. I was so touched by the end! This episode gave me lots of goosebumps...but I don't know why...Hasbro kinda revealed all of the info of the episode to us.

So, maybe we'll have a new theme song? And also, I love Shining Armor's statement of 'liquid pride'. :P Pretty funny. But I thought this episode was very cool and sweet. The song in the beginning kinda caught me there, but it was just awesome! So excited for season 4, now! But I hope we don't hear complaints from the Twili-alicorn complainers. :P

However, I think this episode would have been better as a two-parter. Don't know how/why it was one episode, but it would've given more time to explain. But still, it turned out very good, and I hope they broaden on this in the season 4 premiere. :)

Wow, that was AWESOME! The best part to me were all of those songs! Guess it was a musical after all! This is all just too much for me, can't process!

I might still not be the biggest Princess Twilight fan, but boy that episode is easily my new favorite. So epic.

Well...I can't say i'm happy about the whole Twilicorn thing. But the writers did the best they could with what Hasbro forced them to do -_- They managed to take a horrible idea and make a good episode out of it.

Even though the episode was extremely rushed (It should have been a two parter) I still think it was pretty enjoyable. Amazing songs (OMGHIGAHDHDHF CELESTIA HAD A SONG!!!), great animation, Derpy sightings, DJ-P0n3,  and it was epic and touching. I just.....still don't know how to feel about Twilicorn. It just feels wrong.

The wait for season 4 will be torture

Dear God this was rushed as fuck. It needed to be a two parter desperately. Not enough time for the cutie mark swap, not enough time for Twilight to figure out a cure in a satisfying way, and not enough time for the coronation either. This was just an all around disappointing episode.

I so agree with you. This leaves too many questions unanswered, like: "Why did Starswirl write that spell in the first place? Was he trying to change his destiny? Become an alicorn? And, again, just WHAT is Twilight the princess of? Harmony? Magic? And why did Princess Celestia choose NOW to send that book? Was the solution simple because Twilight has come so far in her understanding of friendship that the magical answers to her problem just suddenly come nowadays? WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!"

It's been said she might be the princess of Ponyville or some such, but even that doesn't make sense. If so, will there be a princess in every town?

All around a VERY disappointing episode. Too rushed, too little - it seems like they made her an alicorn JUST to make her an alicorn. And beyond that? It feels like the series is going to end on.....THIS.

Ugh. Disappointing!

Oh, and PS: The imagery and songs were beautiful, so it wasn't a total waste....though they could have done without one or two of the songs and put in some more dialogue!

Here goes my thoughts...(as posted earlier on my facebook):

FINALLY!!! I have been dying for this season finale not so much for the content, but because I hoped it would make certain more panicky members of the fandom SHUT UP ALREADY! Seriously, bronies, chill. The show’s raison d’etre from day one has to been TO SELL TOYS. Fortunately they made a better show than they had to, hence the phenomenon. (You played into Hasbro’s hands by the way, but I’m saving that for a planned essay on types of fandom drama on my blog.) With that, to the review!

Recap: In between songs, Celestia sends Twi a broken spell. Twi grabs the idiot ball, casts the spell, and Fubars the Mane 6’s destinies. Twilight undoes the magic and earns wings. Shining Armor cries Manly Tears Liquid Pride. Derpy shows up. The end.

Strengths: The Songs were incredible, ditto the (too brief) depictions of each pony acting out the wrong destiny. I thought they handled the transformation itself as well as possible in 22 minutes.

Weaknesses: Major pacing issues (which y'all have discussed) aside, So many questions! Did Cadence ascend too? Is Twi immortal? Are there new duties? Most of all, what about the Mane 6? The biggest issue on every Brony’s mind was only given lip
service. OK, they’re still friends, but…

Where they go from here: I saw somebody on Tumblr suggest that Celestia seems to be amassing an army. First she put Twi in position to free Luna. Then, the marital and magical union of Cadence and Shining Armor, followed with the reformation of Discord (a loose cannon if ever there was one), and finally dangling some nice shiny bait that she knew Twilight would promptly chomp on,
decode, and thereby earn a power-up. I also wonder if Celestia doesn’t see some sort of big threat on the horizon, and isn’t setting up the chessboard to her advantage a la Gandalf or Dumbledore.

Final thoughts: Twilight is now Princess of/Jedi master in Friendship. Heck, her awesome powers are essentially DUE to her connection with the Mane 6. Immediately growing apart from them just because she gained wings and a mediocre dress (seriously, Rarity could have done better) would undercut the whole point of the show, and might well lead to her LOSING her powers. That
said, there are serious logistical and relationship concerns bubbling under the surface of the season finale. If the show is true to form, those repercussions (and the need to resolve them to defeat a Big Bad) will be explored very soon. I think the final song might have lampshaded this: Unlike the season opener, the reprise’s lyrics weren’t changed. Despite a huge paradigm shift, Twilight assumes everything is once again hunky-dory and statically perfect. I smell a subtle setup for the other shoe dropping next season, and can’t wait to see how the Mane 6 adjusts to their first major change since befriending Twilight. I’ll be a tad nervous until we see the full implications of today’s events play out, but I for one (cautiously) welcome our new Alicorn Overlord.

I... I'm still kinda hurting inside, so it's hard for me to write this. I thought that it was an extremely clever idea to remind the Mane 6 of what their real destinies are by showing them. And I liked the memory flash in their eyes (Season 2 Opener anyone?). That was a cool effect. But the second Celestia appeared, I was crushed. HER AND HER STUPID ALTERIOR MOTIVES!!!! :o *breathes* Sorry. Basically, I thought they really overdid it with the whole, "You're a princess now, so you're automatically soooo much better than us" stuff. They did an okay job of making sure that the Mane 6 were firmly behind her in the decision. But what I really, really hated, was that Celestia didn't even ask Twilight if she WANTED to become an alicorn. I just... have so many mixed feelings about the whole episode. I hope they make it work in Season 4. I really do. Oh, and I really loved the "What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me" song. I already know it by heart! ^_^

Im strangely ok with what happened. What I'm not ok with is the multiple bucking months of suspense I have to endure to see what they do with the newly minted Twilicorn. MY QUESTIONS NEED ANSWERS!

Also, seeing Derpy reappear brought some liquid pride to my eyes.

I think that there's something that needs to be said.

We can count on the show to remain the same way it is now because they will simply "acknowledge while ignoring" the fact that Twilight is now an alicorn and that she is a princess.

There will be scenes where ponies say stuff like "she's a princess" and them proceed with their lives just like nothing happened.

This is both good and bad, IMO. It will keep the ponies the way we like while it's the foundation of the show's demise. They started giving nods to continuity and now Twilight is going to stand like a sore thumb amid her friends if you think just a little deeper than the surface.

I think that they're damned if they do, damned if they don't, so to speak.  If they ignore what happened, and treat everything as if things were the same, that's bad writing, ignoring the Alicorn in the room.  If they play things through properly, that creates even more change to the show which people may not be comfortable with.  As strong as this episode is, I'm still not convinced it's a good idea.

This really, really, *really* should have been a series finale.

I think that episode gave me brain cancer. Seriously, her friends got sick and all of Ponyville ground to a halt. Sweet Apple Acres fell apart in a day, the town went into manic depression without Pinkie cheering them up, and the herbivore animals were going to eat pony-flesh because Fluttershy wasn't there...

But hey, lets forget the sunburn and freezing and winds destroying your homes, Pinkie Pie is back! Musical time!!!

My five year old niece turned and looked at me after that episode was finished and said, "That was dumb." and I have to agree.

That was without a doubt the most pandering to stupid people and their children I have ever seen crammed into one TV show.

Hasbro should apologize to parents for exposing their children to that much mind-numbing crap.

On the plus side, I liked the animation. They seemed to step it up a notch.

The singing was good, the animation was good, they tried new things and they worked. I really like how Applejack added the country twang to the song.

It's just who ever approved this script should be stomped in the crotch.

Anyone else got the feeling that Celestia tricked Twilight into casting the "broken" spell and then fix it.

Show seriously shoulda been a two parter.  I mean comon twilight solves the problem in two seconds and gets to be an alicorn for it?  Comon man.  It was such an obvious solution, it would have been the first thing that anyone would have tried to do and she gets to be an alicorn??  What's next getting promoted to alicorn for opening your friends pickle jar??

I'm not against twilight being an alicorn, changes like that make the show feel fresh and I'm glad they had the nerve to actually make some changes and not just make safe episodes they know everyone will react positive towards.  But comon man, the whole episode was kinda lame.  I mean if twilights getting promoted to princess for that then all of them shoulda been alicorns a long time ago for beating discord

I have no idea what just happened!  It was like one second twilights bringing fluttershy to her own cottage then BAM!@ ALICORN!@$!

This was a great episode. One bad thing was that we already knew what was going to happen, so there wasn't much of a story to look forward to. The songs were awesome! I don't see why people are complaining about too many songs. I actually prefer it when there is more, and since this is a season finale, the amount of songs they had can't hurt... and Princess Celestia sings  :D

They ONLY really bad thing about this episode was how rushed it was. It should have been a two part episode, or even a three part.

The first part episode should have showed the Mane 6 with their mixed up cutie marks for longer, then having Twilight fix them back, and right when she disappears after casting the spell, the episode should end. The next episode should start with Twilight becoming an Alicorn and learning how and why she is becoming one, then the next half should have been the coronation.. lasting for half an episode.

Here are the thoughts of a broke, disgruntled fox with Lyra on the brain!

I don’t think a pony who has gone around for years knowing exactly what they’re good at would be fooled by suddenly waking up with a different cutie mark. I have to believe this is also some kind of mental alteration. I don’t buy into destiny IRL but I’ll go along with it for the show.
The resolution to this problem was simple enough (3 songs already?) Favorite line: “Oh my, what a terrible dream I had. *sees AJ’s dress* Or, maybe I’m still having it.” Kind of depressing that Ponyville would turn into New York City without Pinkie but oh well. This leaves about 8 minutes in the episode. That’s not much time to kill the show, so they’d better get down to it. ;)

Wait, they didn't kill the show…YOU KILLED TWILY! (literally) YOU BASTARDS! Wait, NVM. She just got transported into Celestia's brain.
Nice to hear Celestia sing. But contrary to her lyrics, Twilight has not grown up. She still has plenty more to learn about herself, not just her abilities. You are not going to convince me she’s ready for this kind of authority, or to have her mentor and her friends bowing to her.
If you want the proof on that one just think back to this exchange: “Um…is there a book about being a princess I should read?”
“*giggle* There will be time for all of that later.”  *FACEHOOF* That pretty well sums up my issues with Celestia. At least the writers have her character set straight: consistently unprepared and unlikeable.

Here comes a coronation that will live in infamy…hey, there’s Lyra in the crowd!!! YAY! Pay close attention, Ly. With Twilight otherwise occupied, YOU must become the new leader of the Mane 6. Aw yeah. B) Someone make a vector of Dashie in that outfit. xD

Waiting for Twilight to say "thanks but no thanks, I'll pursue my destiny in my own way." And waiting. And waiting. And there are the credits. Uh-oh.

“Yes! Everything’s gonna be just fine!” I’m going to hold you to that promise, Twi, because I did not like this ending. The fact that it was well written doesn't change that. No, I'm not freaking out or abandoning the show or anything. On the contrary, I must be there--to see what they can possibly do with this next season that makes any sense to fans over ten. Because this whole episode felt like a Hasbro executive shoving me aside with an "Outta the way, nerd. We've got kids to entertain."
