Episode That You Like that Everybrony else hates, and vice versa?

I absolutely hated "Baby Cakes", I would say that's my least favorite episode, but everyone I ask seems to like it. I felt like it messed up the pony growth system. Allowing a new born to fly and a baby unicorn to have ridiculous magic skill. Leaving Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle still virtually powerless with magic and flight.

I really enjoyed the last episode (Season 3 Finale) because the whole show seemed to point towards Twilight becoming an alicorn. The only thing I didn't like is being left with a huge cliffhanger on how the show is going to play out now that she is an alicorn.

I enjoyed the season 3 finale, but that's an obvious one. Let's see...

Well, as for episodes that I hated, Feeling Pinkie Keen and Over a Barrel. Now-a-days  I really don't mind these episodes as much, but the sudden Pinkie sense out of nowhere with no continuous sense-make of Feeling Pinkie Keen and the nonsensical war of throwing pies that started because Rainbow and Applejack can't keep their competitiveness to themselves left me with a very poor impression of both episodes. Thinking back, there were a lot of enjoyable things about both episodes.

And I wouldn't really say I love the episode, but I never really minded Mysterious Mare Do Well that much. I kind of get wrapped into the story and don't even try to guess the endings, so I enjoyed the twist of it being the rest of the mane six. I didn't find the characters terribly out of character and thought it on par with most Rainbow Dash episodes.

The center picture is hipster superman. The other four pictures are my favorite webtoon, anime, band, and comic. They're pretty obscure.

They might actually not be but I've never met anyone who's heard of them.

All of them. Seriously there has not been a single episode that I have detested for any reason. Yes there are episodes that are a cut above the others, but none have been disappointments in my eyes.

Particular examples:

-Feeling Pinkie Keen

-The Mysterious Mare Do Well

-Magical Mystery Cure

Some people tolerate Mare Do Well. Some people even like it. I cannot say that I do either of these things.

On the other hand, I'm not particularly fond of most of the adventure episodes (Mare Do Well counts as slice of life for me because it plays the adventure aspects mainly for laughs). Dragonshy, Magic Duel, bleh. Booorrrrinng.

I have to admit that I love the Dave Polsky episodes that everyone else seems to hate (Feeling Pinkie Keen and Over a Barrel).  A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that I love how Mr. Polsky writes humor, and I don't tend to read into the controversial side of those episodes.

On the flip side, I'm not a huge fan of A Canterlot Wedding, mostly because of one line spoken in the last 5 minutes (yes, I know it's unfair, and yes, I know I should get over it, but I probably won't).  I've gone into detail elsewhere, so I won't here.  It basically boils down to I don't think Celestia should have praised Twilight for following her instincts (more specifically, following her instincts in the manner that she did), even though they were correct.

Two episodes I didn't quite understand were "Baby Cakes" and "Sleepless in Ponyville"

They both felt like filler episodes to me and really had no interesting plot to follow. The cake babies were cute and fun to see, but to me the whole episode was watching a babysitter take care of crying kids... I do that IRL so it wasn't that entertaining derpy_emoticon2.png

As for "Sleepless in Ponyville," I don't really know why I didn't like it, probably because it wasn't as humorous or as clever as other episodes.

If anyone would like to educate me on these two I would definitely give them a second try.

Spike At Your Service gets way more hate than it deserves. It's no masterpiece, but it's got alot of great moments from the cast, and it serves its purpose as a "life debt" episode.

On the flipside, people seem to go gaga over A Canterlot Wedding and Magical Mystery Cure, both of which I think are just plain crap. These episodes play fast and loose with canon, pacing, and storytelling, the songs are hit-and-miss, and they provide no meaningful character development. How did these episodes even get popular to begin with?

This is why there isn't an episode I specifically dislike.  Each popularly "disliked" episode seemed to take something, and blow it out of proportion.  Mysterious Mare Do Well took RD's self centered nature to the extreme, Baby Cakes took the baby ponies soon to be skills and made them overtly hard to handle.  Feeling Pinkie Keen took Pinkie's friendly nature and made her downright annoying to Cranky, and all of Spike-centric episodes took something about dragons and just over-emphasized them to the point to where I'm scratching my head at what/who/how dragons naturally behave, grow, etc.

We need to remember this is a show for kids, and this is not a show that blatantly teaches about numbers, sharing, table manners, etc, as other shows do for kids of the MLP's targeted demographic (4-8 or 4-12 depending on the website and who you talk to but basically it's for preschool/elementary school kids).  This show does a wonderful job at teaching more subtle lessons that have a big impact on your life.  Lessons that few kid shows really look at in any way (such as pride, arrogance, stubbornness, honor, accepting one's self in the midst of ridicule, trying new things, boundaries, and anything to do with having and maintaining proper friendships).

The only episode I really am disappointed in is Magical Mystery Cure.  For those who watch the show, there is no actual lesson in this episode other than trust in your friends, which is the one lesson that stands throughout the entire series.  However there is nothing that builds on that like is every episode other than this one.  A Canterlot Wedding had a really hard lesson, Staying true to your heart and what you know, even if NO ONE believes you.  Even adults can take something away from this episode in terms of a good lesson.

Not every episode has a lesson, in fact many episodes don't. Also, just because it is a kids show doesn't mean you aren't permitted to have a least favorite episode.

I'm not a big fan of Magical Mystery Cure. I feel like a lot of people like it. It just bores me a bit xD. Or do I just get confused during some of it?

That's not messing up the system. Rarity mentioned right at the start of the episode that baby ponies are prone to surges in magic/wing power. Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle don't get them because, well, they aren't baby ponies.

Oh okay thank you. I never realized that, I have only seen it one time in total so I must of not noticed it. I appreciate the correction. :)

I know some people who hate this episode, so I don't know if this would be in the category of "episodes that you like that everybody else hates", but I kinda liked "Boast Busters." It taught a great lesson and it was nice seeing that Twilight's friends were there to reassure her that they liked her for who she was, telling her that using her magic to defeat the Ursa Minor wasn't showing off.

Again, I'm not quite sure if this episode would qualify as a "episode you hate that everyone else likes." Like the above, views on it are somewhat mixed. I really didn't care for "Magical Mystery Cure." Like many other people, I feel like this should have been two parts since there were two separate stories going on at once (although they come right after the other is finished). However, I did like the idea of Mane Six getting their cutie marks swapped. It was an interesting idea and the song "True True Friend" was very good, as were the other songs that were in the episode. This episode just felt rushed. Sure, there was so effort put into the music and the songs; I just wish more had been put into the story so that I wasn't left feeling like it was so rushed.

And, honestly, is there anyone who liked 'The Mysterious Mare Do Well?" I think not. It's generally accepted in the fandom that that's an episode everybody hates.

Well I have enjoyed every episode th first time around. An I admit there are some episodeds I don't enjoy as much, but I still watch and enjoy them

So which ones do I like that everyone else hates?

"Just for Sidekicks"

This one isn't like as much by others. Why? I don' really know I never get a good answer. My respond to this episode is that it was a fun episode. And that's the point. It's suppose to be a fun episode it's not suppose to be serious. Look at the title. It tells you that this episode isn't one you have to take seriously so cool down. I also love to see all the pets interact with each other ecause that's not something we have clearly seen.

"Swarm of the Century"

Now I don't really know if this one is really hated, but it is one that isn't talked a lot about and those I talk to hardly cared for this episode, so I'm adding it to this list. This is one episode where we see the rest of the mane six behavior twords Pinkie Pie. She acts weird and her friends know it and sometimes they ignore her as seen I this episode. But then againe Pinkie is also aware of this it seems. The way Pinkie behaived in this episode she seems to know for a fact that she is seen as odd and deals with it. Maybe she parties to get the attention that others normally wouldn't give her. And while odd she's still smart. She realized what the problem was and how to deal with them. In fact she has figured out things that others couldn't throughr the series. In fact this makes me more interested in Pinkie Pie. She is weird and others see her as wierd and she knows it, but deep in that mind she is also smart. What goes on in her mind set. I want more backstory. Also this was Twilights first mental breakdown so that was fun. And as a fan of the Gremlins seeing the Parasprites made me giggle. So this episode was a lot of fun too.

"Dragon Quest"

Another Spike episode apperenlty. When I first saw this I was anticipating something great. Let me explain. We have Spike who at this point wants to find out more about himself an his heritage, so he goes out to find others like him and lean about himself. This Is a great scenario and It could have been great. We learn the Spike wants to learn about himself and we also learn how he thinks. He feels isolated and is well aware that he is a completely different species then the rest. This could have developed into a bigger episode an developed Spike as a whole. He wants to learn about himself, he Is well aware that he is different, he knows this and deals with this everyday. Spike could be the most interesting character in this show and that's sayig a lot. Now while the episode itself didn't turn out like I expected it was still fun. And I did I've me hope that they will explore Spike's mentallity.

(this is getting long so I may as well end this here).

I didn't mind Mysterious Mare-Do-Well. It's not one of my favorites, but I don't have this undying hatred for it that a lot of bronies seem to have.

I liked Mysterious Mare-Do-Well, but that episode seems to get a lot of flak. :/ I don't know if it makes my favorites, but I certainly didn't hate it like a lot of fans seem to.

On the other hoof, I wasn't a big fan of Keep Calm and Flutter On, which a lot of people seemed to like.

Just For Sidekicks can go die in fire. Cathy Weseluck's attempts to interject humanity in Spike when the writers did not and the little Mane Six moments in the beginning and end are the only highlights in this mean spirited, OOC, and pointless episode.

/Rage.

That's not even close to an episode that "everybrony else [loves]." Our opinions on that one ranged from mediocre to awful.

My pick is Lesson Zero, because most bronies really did love it. I had serious problems with that episode, especially after thinking about it for a while.

I did not like the "haw haw crrrraaazy pony" tone of Lesson Zero when I was watching it, and I like it even less after thinking about its implications. Just like Feeling Pinkie Keen, the episode put poor Twilight through the wringer just to make a weak and questionable point at the very end. When you really think about it, did Zero even come close to resolving what the real problem was? Twilight's compulsive tendencies and her need for direct supervision, plus Celestia's distance and unpredictable nature, equal a disaster waiting to happen! Not only for Twi, maybe for Equestria itself. Am I the only brony on Earth who sees this?

Lesson Zero could have gone a long way in working out Twilight's issues with a sense of humor--they just chose not to do it. Why not? Because then both characters would learn something and accept what they were doing wrong. And the show refuses to tell us that Celestia is wrong. Not only is this denying the obvious, it has cost them several opportunities to really develop Twilight's character and that bothers me. Half of the problems I had with the Season 3 finale could have been erased if she had actually seemed ready.

Imagine what a difference it could have made if Celestia admitted "Twilight Sparkle, perhaps I gave you the wrong idea. Always remember that the lessons of friendship can not be scheduled or planned; you must let them happen to you." Or if she gave Twilight the apology she owed her in A Canterlot Wedding. Nope, nope, nope.

So Lesson Zero is the popular episode I don't like. This post is long enough so I'll save the unpopular episode I like for later. happy.png

I loved Mare Do Well, and am pleased to see some possitive opinions of it in this thread.  I keep meaning to do aa whole defence thing on it, because I feel that many bronies missed the point of what was happening (specifically Dashie's personality).  Wingnut, that was brilliantly written.

I loved Magic Mystery Cure too, I thought it was a beautifully put together episode.  Even if people didn't agree with what happened to Twilight, I don't think it should put too much negativity on the episode.  Also one person also couldn't even accept that I was okay with the episode being a musical (or "music video" as he/she put it - clearly having no idea what a music video is).  The storyline was in the songs, this time, and it worked for me.  Also, I'm actually okay with Princess Twilight - it was actually planned from the start, and I don't think it will change the show too much, but either way it's silly to accuse it of doing so before we even see season 4.  There is a part of me that thinks it's early, but ultimately I'm okay with it.  I am less okay with the Alicorn T|wilight because it is kind of a plothole, but I don't mind that she is one now.

I don't really know how popular my low episodes were; The only one I hated was Putting Your Hoof Down even though other episodes scored low on my list.  I could say them if you want.

What do you get if you take the adventurous element, and good vs. evil storylines of Generation 1, reintroduce some abandoned storylines, that only happened with the toys, add the lessons of life elements from My Little Pony Tales, and the adorableness, and fantasy element from Generation 3, use the type of personalities of ponies used in all generations, and put them together using a true fan's perspective?

The Show Stoppers.

A lot of Bronies generally seem to turn their nose up at CMC episodes, and this is usually considered one of the worst, but I find it more than worthwhile if only for the hilariously awful Power Rock performance of the Cutie Mark Crusaders theme song.

In fact, I think I generally like CMC episodes more than most around here.
