My favorite opener has to be The Return of Harmony. Discord has a entertaining personality, Tom the rock, and YOUR FACE.

 

I love the canterlot wedding because it has my favorite villain, Queen Chrysalis. I think season 2 was the best so far and it topped the rest pretty good.

I think The best night ever is my favorite season finale because it is the funniest one. YOUR'E GOING TO LOVE ME made me laugh so much and it is the only episode were an other wonderbolts than spitfire actually talk!!!

For the season finale, I voted for The Best Night Ever. I liked the gala idea, and seeing all the ponies try to do what they came for. The Canterlot Wedding episodes were fine too, but I dislike Cadance and Shining Armor (IMO, not much personality to them) so they kind of ruined it for me...

 

As for the season opener, I have to go with The Return of Harmony. I loved Discord, he was just so fun.

I like Return of Harmony, as it had some very funny scenes.  For finales I have to choose the Canterlot Wedding episode.  Chrysalis is my favorite villain.

Season 2 across the board. That's part of the reason i get so upset when people act like season 3 wasn't at least a little worse the the prior season. It just seems so evident to me, especially when you compare the opener and the finale. Season 3's bookends were worse then s1 and s2.

Return of Harmony remains my favorite opener because I find it to be a very well done episode.  It's paced well, introduces a great new character, and explores a different side of the entire Mane 6.

 

Best Night Ever is probably my favorite finale (and no, it's not because it was Octavia's first appearance, though that certainly doesn't hurt the episode).  I really admire how they were able to give each main character an equal share of a single episode without it feeling rushed.  That sort of writing takes serious skill.  I also found it to be a fun episode all around.  My reasoning for preferring it over the other two is that the others had points that really bugged me, which TBNE does not.

Canterlot wedding and Friendship is magic. I like Canterlot wedding because it was the most epic, and is the only 2-parter series ending. I liked Friendship Is Magic, because it was the first episode ever. Also, the plot is good, great cliffhanger, and a random rainbow lazar.

While they weren't the best, they obviously tried their best and this is what I first saw, as well as turning me into a fan!

Season Openers:

 

#1 Crystal Empire - I love SA and Cadence. I love the Crystal Fair Song. The story line is inventive, and it has a really good ending.

 

#2 Friendship is Magic - Nightmare Moon is awesome, Equestrian history is awesome, story leaves me with a lot of unanswered questions though.

 

#3 Return of Harmony - Discord is a cool villain, but he seems a little bit broken. With all his power he could have done so much worse than make chocolate rain. Also if he was turned to stone by the Elements of Harmony 1000 years ago why did he laugh them off when the Mane 6 were going to use them against him? That's my main problem with Return of Harmony.

 

Season Finales:

 

#1 A Canterlot Wedding - Epic fight scene, epic music, epic everything! Kept me on my toes throughout.

 

#2 Magical Mystery Cure - Full of songs, and every one of them (*coughcough* except the coronation song) is great! And yes, I support Twilicorn.

 

#3 Best Night Ever - Okay I'll admit it I'm more a fan of the action episodes. This was still one of my favorite episodes, though. No complaints here!

Season Two and Season Two. That whole season was the bee's knees, y'all.

 

Opener because of not just Discord, but because of seeing all the mane six being the opposite of themselves.

Season two's, by a nice margin. 

 

Return to Harmony had the best villain, even if he lacks the heart of an evildoer, and seeing the Mane 6 deconstructed was some of the best psychological warfare I've seen in a cartoon.

 

A Canterlot Wedding was the best closer due to Twilight's isolation and the action scenes.  Because Twilight was the only pony who knew Cadance's true nature who Chrysalis didn't have intel on, she was the only one who could see that something was wrong.  That put her in a very tough spot.  And I loved the irony of a bunch of Changelings getting beaten up by the Mane 6.  Too bad the masters of deception thought they were dealing with civilian mares and got more than they bargained for.

Magical Mystery Cure was my favourite finale, because it was nice to have an all musical episode for a change. The Return of Harmony was my favourite season opening, because Discord has been my favourite villain so far!

Season 2 is definitely my favorite Season. Both the opening: The Return of Harmony and the finale: A Canterlot Wedding were fantastic! There were so many memorable quotes in each one and they always make me laugh.

 

Discord is... well Discord. And everyone loves him. He's just great. So many funny parts in that episode- and a very interesting plot too 

 

I loved meeting Cadence and Shining Armor, they are the cutest couple in all of Equestria! I hope to see further character development with both of them. Also Queen Chrysilis and the Changlings were pretty awesome as well

Sounding like a broken record at this point, but I'm going with everyone else here and saying Season 2 for both.  Why?  Really charismatic villains with a lot of character, a truly "epic" feel to both, and the highest of high stakes in both.  Both had a sense of urgency and desperation- they each had that moment when you went. "holy crap, things CANNOT get worse"- when Twilight became gray and lost all hope, or the ending of A Canterlot Wedding Part 1- when Celestia, Shining Armor, and all her friends have turned on her and it looks like fake!Cadence sends her to Pony HELL.

A Canterlot Wedding is my favorite episode of MLP ever and has my favorite song (This Day Aria). I happened to enjoy Friendship is Magic quite a lot and in my opinion I think it barely beat out The Return of Harmony.

Honestly, I liked the Canterlot Wedding episode as the finale because of all the action and the songs on it were amazing

 

Although Friendship is Magic had one of my FAVORITE villains (design-wise) I'm still going to have to go with Return to Harmony as my favorite season opener due to the fact that Discord made it quite a challenge for them (he nearly beat them which IS quite noteworthy)

My favorite opener is the Return of Harmony because of a certain chaos loving draconoquis that has the distinction of being both the first character I started liking (they were the first episode I ever watched) and my favorite character overall. He is the very thing that actually convinced me to try this show, I just had to see if he was as awesome as my friend said he was. My favorite finale is the Canterlot Wedding though it has a couple of inconsistencies with Twilight supposedly being a loner that has never had a single friend until she came to Ponyville yet had a very close relationship with her old foalsitter Princess Cadence though I could forgive her calling her brother her "big brother best friend forever". But despite that it was a great finale it had a decent story, a good villain a nice fight scene at the end and it appealed to the inner softie and romantic in me.

The second season was my favorite. I couldn't ask for anything more. The two antagonists were great additions in the premier and finale, and I loved the whole thing. Season 2 was probably the best. I think Return of Harmony has been the best opener so far. and the finale was good, but I still preferred the Gala one more so.

Magical Mystery Cure felt like two episodes mashed into one; neither idea was given enough time to be properly explored. It wasn't a bad episode, but it could have been much, much better.

 

The Best Night Ever was pretty good, actually; a sextet of stories that all came together pretty well at the end, to form a great narrative about ambition and dissapointment. Almost completely flawless, by my estimation.

 

A Canterlot Wedding was filled with plot-holes, short cuts, and relied heavily on certain characters acting rather stupidly. Objectively, it's not that good an episode. Yet I love it anyway, because of the parts that do work; the design of Chrysalis, the proof that I was correct and Alicorns aren't dieties, the fact that it went to some darker places than the show usually does, and of course This Day Aria. This one may not be as strong as TBNE, but it still wins out for it's larger scope.

 

 

As with MMC, The Crystal Empire is an example of wasted potential, though for different reasons. I wasn't fond of the way they framed the fate of a whole civilization as a test, even though it did give Spike a chance to shine. I would have loved to see some more exploration of the effects a long-lost city reappearing would have had on both the city's populace and the rest of the world. And of course, there's the whole issue with Sombra; while some have argued that his brand of villainy was akin to Sauron's in that he was meant to feel more like an unbeatable elemental force rather than a mere individual, I'd counter that that approach only works if you can pull it off flawlessly, and in this case, they didn't.

 

Return Of Harmony was actually probably the best of the season openers thus far, but I still didn't like it quite as much as I did Mare In The Moon/Elements Of Harmony. Nightmare Moon was less of a threat than Discord, but she felt like more of one. Beyond that, I'm not really certain why ROH gets second place for me, but those are my feelings on the matter regardless.
