I said that some of their lyrics are terrible written (Gunslinger, Nightmare, Bat country and basically most of their big hit songs are terribly written as well as only a few of their older tracks), his vocals feel soulless to me, like they're nothing but some guy who sounds...the way he does. Yes, Waking The Fallen was more bearable than their others, but still definitely not good in comparison to other Metalcore vocalists that I've heard. His clean vocals are mostly my problem, not really his screaming. I'll admit that A7X's Metalcore stuff is passable though far from being great.

I wouldn't say that those songs are necessarily terrible, although I think that those songs you listed are some of their most overrated and mediocre, although I actually liked Nightmare quite a bit, I've gotten sick of it by now though lol

In my opinion, their Waking the Fallen stuff is really great, but everyone has their opinions I suppose. I don't know if you've heard the song "Radiant Eclipse" but I think his vocals are really great in that song, maybe you would like it a bit better than some of their other songs?

I think you'd dig Shai Hulud, they're an earlier Metalcore band with Progressive Metal influences

Hmm... that was actually pretty good. I like how it's really punk sounding.

Oh and don't worry about RD92 calling you an elitist, he thinks everyone's an elitist xp

I prefer rock man.   While I like the aggressiveness some dubstep  artists have to offer, there's nothing I like better than the sound of a distorted guitar.   Rock  is home to some of my favorite sub genres too.

Plus, Haruhi plays guitar.

See, THAT is dubstep. Not this robotic, talkbox-y, sparks flying, over-modulated, over-hyped, and altogether unappealing mess we call Skrillex and Knife Party.

I agree with you, the "new" dubstep is brostep, it's completely different than the original dubstep, but i guess people just call it like that because it has bass drops.

I enjoy Skrillex and Knife Party and many other artists, i just don't like people defining them as something completely different.

Again bro, I don't think that their Metalcore stuff is bad, it's not the greatest stuff that I've heard, though it's definitely passable, and yes Radiant Eclipse was a good song, M. Shadow's screams I can withstand (even though they aren't the best), it's just his clean vocals that are bad. I'll admit that a while back I definitely was over looking their older stuff, but I stand firm when I say that it's not the greatest.

It sounds really punk-ish because it's old school Metalcore, back when the bands were closer to their Hardcore Punk influences, the newer Metalcore bands tend to lean more onto Metal influences. I always know best when it comes down to Metalcore, don't I? wink.png

Just a quick question for you guys.

Since I suck with genre's for rock, can one of you guys tell me what category this song falls in?

Born of Osiris are a Technical Death Metal/Deathcore band. Far away from being any type of rock music. Technical Death Metal and Deathcore are both different types of Country, aren't I being so obvious?

I prefer Rock over Dubstep, though I'm not saying that one specific music genre is better than the other. Rock has been more included in my life than any other genre, but I still enjoy most types of music.

If I have to choose between the two, Rock. I'm a metal guy myself, but I do enjoy dubstep if its done right and it sounds unique enough. For every 1 dubstep song I've liked there were countless others that didn't do a thing for me.

I prefer dubstep (I'm a huge fan of electronic music), but not by that much, I also enjoy rock from times to times.

They're quite different though. If we compare the 2 most violent genres, dubstep and metal, then I strongly prefer dubstep.

Both dubstep and rock have some awesome songs. I have a slight preference towards dubstep purely because I'm more of a fan of electronic music, but I still listen to quite a bit of rock. Both genres are great.

I don't think there's a fair comparison, really. It's like comparing Baroque or Romantic to hip-hop. "Rock" is such a broad term that barely means anything anymore, i feel. But if "Rock" implies more traditional instrumental-based music, than i'll have to go with that. There's no real musicianship, at least in the orthodox sense, with dubstep or electronic music since it's all synthetic. Frankly, to me, it seems pretty uninspired in the broad sense as well.

Really it's all down to personal taste. Neither genre takes more or less skill or passion to pull off, and anybody who thinks otherwise is just arrogant and elitist over their preferred music genre.

I like many rock songs, and I like many dubstep songs. In the same vein, I dislike plenty of both. I judge on a song-by-song basis.

If I had to choose one or the other, I'd probably go with dubstep as I think I could be content with playing it in multiple scenarios - lyrical music can easily throw me off when focusing intently on certain things.

Definitely rock without hesitation.  I dislike most electronic music, I like my music to have lyrics, or at least a good melody, and what dubstep I have heard (which isn't much to be fair) sounds like little more than repetitive noise to me.  To each their own of course, but I can't stand it.

I don't actually mind some electronic music, I went through a phase where I loved t.A.T.u. I'm odd, I like a lot of genres completely different to one another. I've just never got dubstep.

When I have to choose between rock and dubstep, I'll choose rock every time. However, there are so many subgenres of both types of music that making a choice isn't always easy. There are types of rock I don't like, and there are types of dubstep I really like. The key point for me is that it needs to be melodic. If it is, then I'll probably like it. If not, then I generally won't like it.
