For those of you who have attended our weekly movie nights on Fridays, stuck with us throughout season 3, or who have dropped in on occasion to watch some ponies as the notion struck you, you're probably well-aware of Equestria.tv's shortcomings. Concerns have been expressed here and in the stream chat by our members regarding its stability, feature set, and moderation. We share your frustrations.

 

For some time now, our own developers have been working diligently on rewriting it from the ground up to address these issues and provide an overall smoother experience. Gone will be the days of random crashes for no apparent reason and the need for a refresh after every minor mishap. Increased security provisions and a more robust set of tools for the staff will also mean more peaceful and enjoyable conversation and viewing for all in attendance. Everything is being overhauled. Your feedback and perseverance have been instrumental in reshaping it, and for that we thank you.

 

 

As the finishing touches are being placed upon Equestria.tv and we test it out in preparation for its grand re-opening, ETV is going dark. Bringing it offline in the interim will allow us to concentrate more fully on getting things done without the hassle of trying to keep its current form afloat.

 

 

Once again, thanks for supporting Equestria.tv. We'll be back soon, bigger and better than ever before.

Oh good. I tried heading to Equestria.tv a few times, and the place did seem to crash a lot.

 

Unfortunately for me, videos are just unwatchable over there because of buffering issues. I always end up missing over half the video when it skips around, so it's just not worth it.

 

Crappy internet FTW, although it seems much worse on Equestria.tv as opposed to Youtube.

Yea, when I was watching Equestria TV it did seem to crash alot. But I know you guys were working on it, and knew it would be back. Glad you guys fixed it, and cannot wait to watch more ponies on the new and improved format.

I honestly haven't been to Equestria.Tv ever yet. But I might have to sometime, especially since its getting overhauled.

Not really, but the goal is to finish and get everything ready several days to a week before BronyCon so that we can take a step back and make sure everything is okie day before unveiling it as one of the inevitable things we'll be talking about in our panel at BronyCon. So, a couple weeks, or so.

Hope to see a much better system than before. I remember trying to watch the Doctor Who movie on one Friday movie night, and I eventually gave up and torrented the movie and just watched it on my own computer.

In all honesty, I liked synchatube better. The S3 opening WAS CRAZY. But hilarious, in all retrospect. Maybe I liked it because I got BronyState vibe.

The main problems with Synchtube were that:

A: There were absolutely no practical moderation controls, at all. You couldn't really do much of anything besides verbally ask someone to stop doing something, which only works on members who are mature enough to comply, and sure as hell won't work on trolls.

B: Anyone remember how spammer bots and trolls would post seventy lines of spam in the chat? Yeah, that happened a lot, and we couldn't stop it. Synctube's security setup was suckish to non-existent. Every week, we just had to hope that bots or spammers would leave us alone.

C: Synchtube was no longer being developed, at all, by it's creators. This is probably the biggest problem. It meant that none of the above problems were ever going to be fixed, and we could do nothing about it. For example, with IPBoard, we can go to their support forum and tell them of so and so bug or error, and they'll hopefully get it fixed. But Synchtube has none of that. It's more or less an abandoned warehouse that you can use, but that has no chance of ever being improved upon again.

 

Thus, this is why we've created our own streaming site. Moderation controls have been made (and are under improvement to become better), we can stop bots from spamming our chat better, and, as this is ours, we can continue to develop it all we want ^^

Although I haven't utilized this feature yet in large part because the timing itself hasn't worked too well for me in part because I live on the west coast I still appreciate the staff doing things like this for us and understand that these things happen.

Well, on Synchtube, you could have user avatars, they just wouldn't show up in the chat. And avatars in chats take up space as well. As much as I like them for more instant recognition and user uniqueness, we need to make sure we have as much room as everything possible, without cramming stuff in all over.

 

As fir Synchtube itself, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but Synchtube closed down fully early in March.

Don't worry guys, I know this probably is a downer for a lot of you, but let me tall ya that it's worth the wait. Yea we wont get to watch epic movies every week, but with the current mess that ETV is out of the way, we can focus on getting the new ETV ready that I am sure will blow all of you away =D 

 

I can't give a good estimate on time, but it should not be too long before the new ETV is ready, just hold it out for a few weeks
