Parents telling little girls to NOT watch MLP?

I feel really bad for the girls whose parents are really this ignorant. I can understand them having concerns about their daughters accidentally finding R34 or something as the "safe search" settings on alot of search engines are far from perfect but lets get real here there are several other children shows where a child is just as likely to accidentally stumble onto something inappropriate as they are for MLP yet those fandoms aren't being blamed for warping the minds of children. Instead of wasting their time scapegoating bronies and trying to shut them down they should instead actually I don't know spend their time with actual parenting and try to make sure they don't accidentally see anything inappropriate.

I know.

Ive been around to see a good chunk of the assumptions and grouping of everyone into one because of that one creepy person, but since this is not the first and most certainly wont be the last time, theres no real need go get bothered by it. Show you're bothered by it in the wrong way and it'll probably just fuel more assumptions, which, will in turn bother you again and the cycle repeats itself.

Your right.

It's best to ignore something as a whole when there is no point in trying to change someone else's mind. People as close-minded as these people are better off to be ignored just like those Westboro baptist freaks :P

These "amazing parents" must be complete idiots if they truly believe that letting their kids watch MLP is dangerous, like seriously, it's pathetic. If they think bronies are all rapists and pedos, they are sadly mistaken and should know better than to accuse without any proper research. These idiots likely watch Fox News!

What bronies do with the show should not affect the kids watching in the slightest. Yeah there is NSFW art, but guess what parents, its the internet, get over it, if you are against that then get some fucking parental controls on. Kids really don't need to be on the internet alone anyways. STOP DEPRIVING YOUR KIDS OF AN AWESOME SHOW

Well, yes, but why would parents be thinking that? The only possible way that little girls can FIND clop or gore is if you chat on a Forum (( Such as MLP Forums )) or happen to have a MLP Instagram account, but what are the odds of that happening? Besides, if you searched up "My Little Pony" on Google, all you'd come up with is Princess and Mane 6 characters. If you scrolled all the way down, you'd find clop or gore, but little kids seem to have no patience, only view the top pictures, and search up their next search.

I got news for them, the "ifffy" content for MLP is pretty well tucked away compared to some things I've tried to search. I've had things that should not even have such things tied to them pull up something iffy long before MLP. There are fandoms that have the problems far worse.

Trust me on this from the image searches I've had to do while working on TVtropes.

While this be true, I have just remembered the first time I searched equestria girls and looked on pictures. Even once I had set my filtering to max, 1-2 pictures still got through out of 200. Now I know its just 1-2 pictures but it's still once or 2.

This in not the same as MLP thought everything seems really clean when  I search, 1 picture thats was iffy with safe search on and only a few humanised images of the ponies. Which is MUCH MUCH better then a lot of things that little girls are likely to search online

Now that's just terrible! Infact, I have a friend with younger sisters and they aboslutely love the show! They even love rewatching the episodes on YouTube!

Now imagine taking away the possible happiness a child could feel from the show. They might not like it, sure, but chances are they do.

I'll bet at least seven out of ten people would enjoy the show if they actually gave it a chance with an open mind. Maybe that's a stretch, but MLP is epic.

Oh, man. I must say, the whole petition thing positively slays me. No company has the legal power to remove fan art of their intellectual properties unless: A.) the creator of said art is attempting to pass it off as their own IP, or B.) money is exchanging hands over such art. Otherwise, it's fair use. Classic "I'm a parent so I know everything about everything" bullshit, that's what that is.

Furthermore, how goddamn miserable these parents' lives must be to take such a cute and innocent show away from their children simply based on the groundless stereotypes surrounding its male fanbase. I'm not yet a parent, myself, and even MY ass can say to these people that "UR DOIN IT WRONG."

Just reminds me of those idiots who wanted Pokemon banned because it was "Summoning demonic creatures" and would turn kids towards "Satanism," as well as Sponge Bob and Patrick holding hands in one episode promoting "unhealthy/unapproved ideas" towards younger children.

There are people in the fandom who are a little too obsessed with things, and there are some things which are kind of disturbing, but these things exist within any fandom.  I mean holy freaking crap, I forgot to turn on safe browsing one time and came upon an image of Bart banging Lisa simpson.

People need to take things with a grain of salt and just relax.

ok...yeah this is totally stupid...i mean really...a petition to cancel the show? does this person know that bronies aren't just men? there are older girl bronies too? i mean...please...

i even showed the link to the petition to a quasi-brony friend of mine (he watched part of the first episode but can't finish cause his sister is staying up late now) but thinks the fandom is hilarious and awesome, anyway, he read only the two paragraphs and that his first thought was "welcome to the internet" and that you'll find that kinda stuff no matter what fandom you look up.

Twilight agrees with you. But still, searching up virtually anything on the Internet will bring up their equivalent of Princess Molestia.

The only solution to that problem is disallowing children from the Internet, which some parents won't do.

Actually, there is another solution to that problem. The parents could put SafeSearch on. That should help at least a little bit.

I think parents should tell their younger girls that older people do watch this show and a lot of them are male but that there is nothing wrong with that. They should use this as a teaching opportunity to encourag acceptance of all different types of people.

We need to remember that the parents that go on these stupid parenting wed sites are usually the over protective and sheltering type and the complain about anything and every thing that they don't like. there were huge complaints about shows like iCarly and Suite Life when they were running.

Wow, I've been gone for two hours and this topic escalated quickly. Thanks everybrony for the replies.

BTW to those parents trying to get hasbro to make bronies leave, hasbro is a corporation that exists to make money. Loosing the brony fandom will result in a large loss of profit for the company.

Yeah, we're basically a minority audience but we're still a huge source of profit for Hasbro.

And under the logic of these parents, you might as well take that Nintendo away from little Timmy too because he could meet someone that turns Mario into a monster! The horror!

But don't you see, Timmy might go around and start stomping on people's pet turtles unless we take measures to stop him from emulating that murderous red bastard!

...I love poking fun at overprotective parents. They practically write the jokes themselves.

It's sad that they're trying to petition Hasbro to take down our fanfics and artwork. They do know what petitioning is, right? If they're trying to petition it, that means they're trying to make Hasbro not do it.

Our artwork and fanfics are protected by the first amendment, so they can't do a damn thing about that.

If bronies never started to form, the show would not be the cultural phenomenon it is today.

I don't mind their comments though. We're notorious. Nothing we haven't heard before, anyway.

But of course! And what if he starts eating mushrooms thinking he'll grow bigger? He'll be a drug addict by the time he's 10! Just like that Mario figure!

At this point, all we're doing right now is just giving them more incentive to react with our reactions...

At this point, I would say it's best to just let it go.

Let bygones be bygones and just just let out a big hearty laugh at how silly parents are these days...

Yes, I too am a bit disturbed by this however, they're just doing this for a reaction and we're just giving it to them...

Like I said, let's all just calm down, and laugh :P

Pretty sure that wasn't a parent that made that petition. The way they wrote and the examples they used seemed more like they came from somebody of the internet, not a parent who happened upon it.

Truth be told, I like that there are some parents who actually believe stuff like this though. They are a minority, so they'll likely never actually get anything done, and they are extremely easy to troll :)

Ever played any Shin Megami Tensei games? Because quite a few of them are like Pokemon with demons. That's actually what got me into the series: somebody described Nocturne to me as "pokemon with demons and an actual storyline".

Bronies don't equal pedophiles.

I mean, can't parents learn from the internet that we, as a fandom, won't promote that material. Can parents even know the internet? I mean, parents are listing to much Common Sense Media, which parents can become the internet police. But since this petition failed to get the amount of the signatures needed, WE STILL GET MLP!

The best thing to do now, is laugh at the parents who made this petition.

At least my parents found out I was a brony, and they don't care.

That post was like a Child whining to his mommy

Or maybe, their parents strict as ever, way to much time listing to Common Sense Media, this is why parents should stay away from what we are trying to like or dislike, they can't control what each people like.
