Parents telling little girls to NOT watch MLP?

wow that is ridiculous. There's all of this stuff with the most other cartoon shows too. Just because MLP got so big, these people starts to notice these things..

It's sad that they say this, but eh. They can't do anything.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever read. I'm glad the petition got locked, but I don't think we really needed to worry too much. Even if the petition was still open, there are more parents out there who support the show than hate it. It wouldn't get very many signatures

I really wouldn't be surprised if this thing was actually started by a troll/hater just trying to cause problems for us. It's foolish to try and attack a fan base as large as this one. They were doomed to fail from the start

Indeed, you can't bring down a (figurative) army without much more support in some form or another. With lesser numbers, less people who support them, and many other problems they were doomed to failure. Besides that, most of this is in America where freedom of many things is more than just existent. As long as we aren't hurting them which (we wouldn't be if there were good enough parents to keep their own safe search on) we aren't. This is most likely just some troll's chain reaction.

You do not wanna know how unnaturally loud I laughed when I had finished reading that petition. That was false in almost every aspect. Also, it was extremely over-exaggerated:

'I've learned they're a very hostile group, verbally attacking and harassing anyone who doesn't agree with them.'

Sounds like someones been purposely finding bad parts of the fandom!  ^_^

I had many words with my mother on this. Although I became a brony recently, and I'm 18, she staunchly defends the reactions of these parents. She says that being a mother (I dunno about fathers, when I become one in a few years then I'll let you know) is a lot of work, and that they never have time to adequately research something before making a decision on whether it's safe for their child or not. Thus, they tend to jump to conclusions a lot.

I know my mom did this to me forever, in fact it wasn't until I was 18 that I was able to start learning some basic self-dependency stuff that most 16-year-olds can do. I believe the first episode of Star Trek Voyager sums thatu' up.

I think that this kind of parenting is lazy and destructive. This is my opinion, and I know I'll get flak and flames for it, but I think that if you're a parent, no matter your circumstances, that is your primary job. If you're too busy to actually figure out what is good for your kids and what isn't, then you're waaaay too busy to be a parent.

No, I'm not a parent. But I read all of my mom's parenting books to help her because she never had time to read them.

TL;DR

These parents are lazy and should rethink their priorities before teaching their kids that it doesn't matter what's in the book, the cover tells all.

EDIT: On reading this post it seems like I am belittling parents. No I'm not. I have great respect for parents who try to do their best, and I understand that these parents are doing just that. I don't like it when people go one mile, but not the extra mile when it's just so easy. Seriously guys, do a little research before calling me a pedophile. I teach piano to young children! I am not a pedophile.

I agree. We shouldn't let little girls watch MLP:FiM because it has a following of perverts and a plethora of cartoon porn online. We shouldn't let them watch Sonic, Spongebob, Rugrats, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, the Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, Simpsons, etc. for the same reasons.

You have GOT to be kidding me. My own generation embarrasses me sometimes.

I'd be lieing if i said this surprised me.

Check and see how they stand on the "religious" front too, not to bash religion, but usually these are the same close minded parents that bash anything their priests slam.

And ANYTHING that becomes popular with children, or is meant for kids but is popular with adults also, is nearly always on the hitlist.

Harry Potter, Mario Bros, Pokemon, Spongebob squarepants, Hello Kitty, anything.

They're usually misinformed and have no thought process of their own in regards to these things.

Fine example is the priest at my mothers church.

Spent the WHOLE sunday service slandering Harry potter one fine morning, and my mother (being a HUGE HP fan) sat through it biting her tongue and letting him have his way.

But he slipped up literally at the end and referred to J.K. Rowling as a "he".... say what now?

My mother jumped from her seat in the back and spent a good 20 minutes ripping this guy a new ***hole for being an uninformed dick, just slandering things because he'd read it was bad on some hyper zealots blog (she got him to confess he knew NOTHING besides what he'd read from others posting their slanderous remarks)

Many people are sadly this bad, and i cannot stand it personally. I'd like to think i'm open minded, i hate the twilight books/movies for my own reason, and i've actually looked at the books/movies PERSONALLY, not through someone elses opinions of them.
Otherwise i'm sure i'd love'em as my mother also got into those big time as well. (hence i was able to easily be directly exposed when visiting her house)

I saw all the hate for MLP:FiM and just had to see if it was justified, after doing so, i got hooked. The hate given is far from justified in any regard, and i've actually met a "clopper" in person before.

Some fans are a bit freaky, but give me a big show/movie where they aren't.

I mean, last i'd heard "Jedi" is now a religion somewhere europe... really!?

Or how bout the guy that named his kids Chewbacca and Leia?

I shudder at the ones for sailormoon, and even moreso at some of the startrek ones...

So yeah.. no surprise and best left ignored as, thankfully, most people these days aren't that stupid. One nice thing about the age of information is more people are likely to look things up as opposed to just take some individuals word for it.

*applause*

I will say one thing, though - it's not that they are too busy to be a parent, it's that their priorities are not set where they need to be.

A lot of the reason why parents are so busy - and this is why these people are called soccer moms - is because they sign their kids up for tons of stuff to do, and they have to go to ALL of their games and ALL of their ballet recitals and ALL of their after-school club events, plus practices and piano classes and, heck, SCHOOL... the parents make themselves busy by pampering their kids with what parenting books and whatnot say will make their kids the bestest and smartest kids in the world... when really what they are doing is over-pampering them and making them more likely to rebel as teenagers and college students. But that's for another topic...

Also that parents can use their kids as mini versions of what they wanted to acheive but never did, but that's also another topic.

My point is that parents have the potential to not use the time that they have with their kids wisely. And it can be difficult to tell them otherwise.

I do enjoy the fact that, despite your mom reacting in such a way when you were younger, she was able to have the insight to see why certain parents do what they do.

Not all bronies participate in clopping and writing Fanfics like Cupcakes and Rainbow Factory. They're assuming the worst. SERIOUSLY PARENTS CAN BE SO PARANOID SOMETIMES!!

I agree with you there, the parents must have watched to much Common Sense Media tips, and now parents are becoming internet polices in their child's homes. That's why I hate Common Sense Media, because parents want to strict and brainwashed to make their kids safe.

This is what's wrong with society.

People do stupid shit like this instead of actually raising their damn kids. Not sure if these people have too much time on their hands or too few brain cells, but...patenting = doing it wrong.

By their logic, most shows should be banned. Hell, even the most mundane of shows/games get this.

Examples:

Pokemon. Believe it or not, they have a whole Creepypasta section that lasts 4 pages on the wiki and is very long. They also contain the same amount of nudity, rule 34, etc.

Shrek. (No lies)

Simpsons

Power Puff Girls

Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi

Ed, Edd, n' Eddy

Hell,  I seen kidd cartoons like Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, Littlest Pet Shop, etc versions too.

Dexter's lab.

The Peanuts.

I seen even this done with Blue's Clues.

There is no way you can avoid those inappropriate pictures or fanfictions. I mean, even on reality shows its like that. I can't stress enough that. All you can do is avoid that side anyways. Besides, a lot of cartoons during their age have lots of sexual references.

They have a somewhat valid point with the art. Even just searching for plain MLP can turn up some NSFW stuff. Yeah, it's their job to keep the kids viewing safe stuff but when it requires outright policing of their search results...

So besides the already amazingly good points already mentioned in this thread, which I won't bother repeating because they've said it better than I could, I really have to question the ultimate objective of parents bubble-wrapping the world for their children?

So R34 comes up when you search on Google? Even when you're not looking for it? Welcome to the modern world. Shit like that happens for anything. A cursory romp through Google showed me that R34 comes up on the first page of results for stuff like Harry Potter, Spongebob, Gravity Falls, Powerpuff Girls, Hey Arnold, Dora the Fucking Explorer...

DEAL WITH IT.

The world is not meant to raise your kids for you. YOU ARE. You can't childproof the world, but you can make sure your kids are equipped to deal with the stuff they see, and become smart enough to make the proper decisions and have mature reactions to the world around them. Someone that's been quarantined their entire life, is going to get sick immediately after walking out the door.

I'm not advocating shoving the horrors of the world in kids' faces, but I also cannot support this forcing the world to silence itself for the sake of "protection" because it's only harming kids in the long run by turning them into blank-minded blissfully ignorant morons, whose gumdrop fantasy world fabricated by mum and dad is going to shatter utterly when the real world punches them in the face at the wrong age and they're not going to know how to react when mummy's not there, because their parents thought it'd be better to CENSOR THE ENTIRE WORLD so that television and computers can do their jobs for them and raise their kids.

We're creating a world where kids are taught to be afraid of every adult around them, that everyone's out to harm them, and cultivating a culture of suspicions and hatred, where EVERYTHING is "us against them", and everyone around you is a potential predator with a mind to hurt you. And I think that's awful.

Meanwhile, kids are missing out on shows with sound morals and good lessons, because a crop of idiots that just discovered the internet has decided that adults watching candy-coloured ponies is a harbinger of the Antichrist.

2 things come to mind for this for those that do whine about it.

Being a parent and i dunno.. monitoring your kids online activities....

or

Parental locks and other freely available tools all over the place built into damned near every device in existence since the "V" chip law took effect over 10 years ago.... Problem solved!

Such simple fixes to these problems no? And yet so often ignored under the usual excuses of being "to busy" or "I didn't know that!"... didn't look it up either did ya? jumped right to conclusions instead...  :P

reminds me of when parents were screaming about kids playing M18+ rated games on the consoles, and trying to sue for parental locks that ALL consoles already have had at the time...

Oh yeah, assume there watching the most informative and fare news channel.  Go on and insult the fanbase of the most popular channel period.  That doesn't make you look like a pompous jackass.

Any parent or person reading this take a note or a mental one should do.

Oh hell no now I am pissed and it takes a lot to make me mad..... trust me on that bit.

Okay I have one thing to say to any "parents" or anyone else for that matter who may be looking at this thread.

Stop making a big deal out of every little thing! There is no need to start freaking out and making assumptions that bronies or other people who enjoy this show are pedophiles! My GOD some people in this world are so freaking stupid! Everytime I turn I have to hear complaints and stuff such as this that people have to ruin something for others. Because of what we like this show!? GET OVER it! It is a awesome show and why else do you think everyone likes it so much?!

I swear people need to stop making a big deal out of something such as this. There are way way worse people parents should be worried about and other matters. Soccer moms just get out of here no one likes your kind anyways... Get a life and worry about matters that are actually a big deal.

There I have said my peace. Airbourne out...

That picture means it's going dowwwwwwwn.

On a more related topic, I beleive that parents have the right to teach their children however they want. If they don't want their daughters conversing with 30 year old men watching a program intended for seven year olds, I guess it's their choice.

Don't hate me for that, all parents have opinions and it's not up to us, to judge whether or not they're correct.

I've been snooping around on some "parenting" websites and you'll never guess what I keep finding when I look into MLP discussions. Parents keeping posting threads how they tell their daughters to not watch MLP. Apparently they're doing this to "protect" their loved ones from us bronies because somehow, we're simultaneously a rape, pedophile, bestiality and LGBT crowd.

Those parents keep talking about how great the show is, but we bronies are somehow ruining it for their daughters. I've also heard them petitioning hasbro to start taking down our art and fanfics, even the non NSFW ones. Because you know, little girls are going to be searching for "MLP clop or gore stories." or are old enough to create an account to do so.

To you bronies who are parents that watch the show with your children, power to you. And could you please tell your fellow parents that we're not going to destroy the lives of their daughters? Because odds are, bronies have daughters too.

http://www.change.org/petitions/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-bronies-cancel-the-series-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-to-end-the-brony-fad

Here's an example to say the least.

Pathetic is all I can say xD

But if you look closer, the most "recent" signatures are from over a year ago... so I wouldn't even worry about that thing.

But I know lots of parents still think that of us, and it's sad to say the least.

I, as many as others among us, don't fit under any of those stereotypes.  I'm not LGBT that I know of, I'm not a pedo, I don't rape people or animals...

I'm a typical, run of the mill guy.

*shrugs*

I like how in the petition, the creator didn't even use his real name, instead choosing "John Smith" as the name. Good thing it was locked when it was, the petition is probably one of the biggest misinformation campaigns I've seen.

My parents didn't try to shield me from the horrors of the world when I was a kid (in fact, I exposed myself to it on accident back in 2003) as much as these parents do, and honestly, they don't really care about me being one of those pony-loving freaks (mostly because I don't shove it down their throats; I tend to shove video games down their throats more). Pretty sure they wouldn't try to post misinformation about bronies as a whole.

it's the parent's responsibility to make sure their child isn't seeing NSFW content, anyway.

Right there.  End the thread guys, this person already got it.

There's bad stuff for kids all over the internet, most of which isn't brony related.  If parents are concerned about it, they shouldn't let their kids use computers except for schoolwork.

I created an account and responded to their "petition" with this:

I myself am a TEENAGE brony (well pegasister actually) And I got into the show by watching it with my little sister. Honestly I think certain fanart  and videos (often refered to as NSFW),should be required to be posted on sites that won't load when clicked on if the user has parent controls (I avoided all potential porn and violence sites by using one of these.) but cancelling the SHOW? that's a little extreme and a punishment to the innocent fans. All the fanart banned ... even the clean ones? Not a good Idea you're talking about  an upraor talking of "rights" and such. Also I researched Derpy.. the character you mentioned. One it was NOT fanmade it was actually an animation mistake at first (I actually saw the episode) the fandom quickly adopted this pony as an Fan mascot of sorts. They finally allowed the character to speak and actually called her Derpy (which was surprising) but what they were mad about was NOT the character but the fact that a band of parents such as yourself-sought to remove the character because she was Depicted as "Mentally impaired" But actually I think it's a true show of character .. not the gross unnecessary fanart- that the bronies still loved Derpy and many declared her as their "favorite character"  and wanted her to remain on the show. And no offense but the show teaches lessons about Friendship.. lessons the selfish children of today desperatly need., what kind of a parent would ban a show like that from their household.. That's like banning textbooks from school! And about Bronies being vicious?? I have rarely seen that and I'm among them, all the time! and if nothing else EVERY fandom and even groups of people that are unconnected to shows boks or movies- are vicious. Blame the parents of today because in My high school (and on the internet) I, have been called all sorts of horrible names and attacked verbally and PHYSICALLY for my opinions. And not a single attack was from a brony. The teens of Today are selfish   . and that makes them vicious towards ANYONE who won't do what they want..I think that means we need a show like My Little Pony more than ever. It's certainly better than most kids shows which teaches them that it's all "me me me", and that needs to stop. if anything you should be petitioning for MORE shows like my little pony. And by the way, pedophiles and bestialitists are around EVERY childrens show.. what do you want them to watch? Degrassi? No, I refuse to let misconceptions by people like you to ruin my little sisters favorite show-and one of mine- just because there are some "bad people" who like it. If you realy wanna protect your children.

1 Get parent controls on your computer, they worked wonders for my mom when I was a little kid and continue to work charms for my sister.

2 Keep a watchful eye, Ify you see a search come up with something disturbing it is possible to get a filter on search engines. until they are ready to handle it well enough for themselves

3 they are not old enough to make accounts on websites that are affiliated with bronies.. don't let them make accounts on websites that only acept people that are thirteen and up (facebook the most popular with these "false aged accounts"

4 If your child has any acounts on social website be a snooper read their messages if any seem suspicious block the user.

thank you if you read this till the very end,

Trisha

(Trisha is a fake name I made so people don't try to track me)

It's cherry-picking and clearly made with a biased opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if this was made by a "hater" and not some worried parents; the same about the signatures. (I hope!)

Not to mention that people seem to forget that you can find this on literally ANY fanbase around ANYTHING.

But I guess that people have the right to start these petitions. It's natural that it will fail.

I'm quite outraged by the opinions parents have of us. It's a shame, because the majority of bronies are lovely people and just love the show for what it is. Just because a guy likes a children's show doesn't mean he's a paedophile or a rapist or a pervert. Why can't people understand that??

Also, the fans of the show aren't just guys. There are plenty of pony-loving girls out there too, such as myself. :) The attention is all on bronies so pegasisters are disregarded sometimes and that annoys me.

I don't understand why the entire hatred is towards the Brony community. You get fully grown adults and teenagers watching Adventure time and The Regular Show (which are designed for children) and no one bats an eyelid. People just want someone to blame for "ruining their children" whether it be music, video games or in this case, the Brony fandom. These parents will just be the typical "anything that isn't one hundred percent socially acceptable by every single person on the planet is an abomination" and this is when intolerance is spread. These people need educating so they don't pass their moronic views to their children.
