Poniverse Staff Fiddling & Member Badge Edits

Just two relatively minor notes.

More Poniverse staff? More Poniverse staff. But this time, it's a new position.
 
With BronyCon right on our doorstep next week however, it's hardly surprising. Once that convention hits, and this site of ours and the concept of Poniverse take off to fellow bronies all over the interwebz, quickly becoming reality, we will suddenly find ourselves in a very busy situation; probably nothing we've yet encountered thus far. A more intricate network of newbs to fetch slippers and mocha coolattas for people is going to be a must.
 
In actuality, most of these new promotions are specifically staff for Ice Storm's new RP project that got announced earlier, but we can use them as mules anyway. It'll be fine.

Adding to that, C# (better known as rainbovv dash) has joined us as a developer and Jamiequadbike as our lead designer for all things Poniverse.
 
Now let's get to the really fun stuff.
 
I enjoy the shiny.
In the past, numerous times in fact, people have suggested new badge icons, as well as the removal of certain other icons. While there's little doubt that badges are hardly a top priority, there is also the fact that, the set we've used until now is slightly dusty in it's entirety. People may remember a poll topic that was had a short while back, asking people's opinions about the duel Brony badges (the second of which no one has yet to even obtain ). These two topics combined, have lead to a few changes to our badge system And just in time for BronyCon, as well.
 
First off, the two brony badges have been removed entirely. The vast majority of pollers either didn't like them, or had no fucks to give on the matter. Our theme goes from items to animals to ponies; all in-show elements, so, cancelling out these two tail-end badges that were fandom-related actually makes some sense.
 
Secondly, the following badges have been added.
 

 

 

 
All badges were made by Jokuc, who's style is so very polished that I dare say he's perfectly replicated Nico's original badges Thanks a lot, man!
 
The new ranking order will now go as follows:
 
Blank Flank (0) > Muffin (5) > Cupcake (40) > Parasprite (100) > Butterfly (200) > Squirrel (300) > Bunny (400) > Bird (600) > Phoenix (800) > Dragon (1000) > Changeling (1200) > Pony (1500) > Crystal Pony (3000) > Pegasus (5000) > Unicorn (7000)
 
Point amounts have been altered slightly, but not a terrible amount. While adding these new badges is something cool to have updated, completely revamping the system is neither needed nor optimal, in my opinion :3 It's still a great setup, and I also feel jostling amount and thus post count requirement too much would just be a misstep. Feel free to voice any thoughts on point value spacing; I tried to be fairly even and symmetrical with the rhythm. Sure, the line ends at 7000, but all I continued to see from the Certified Brony badge was 'it's rather high'. Perhaps in the future something else can be implemented to follow that up :3
 
Closing thought: 'Griffon' was a fourth and final badge I considered adding as well (made by Marcato), but I decided against it. As I mentioned earlier, our hierarchy, overall, goes from pony (or, a term for a pony, really), to items (food), to animals, to ponies (Changelings count as ponies because of their appearance). Griffon however isn't any of these three existing categories. I felt that, while the Griffon badge looks very nice, it wouldn't fit with the badge pattern we've established. Marcato agreed with me on the matter, but, for those interested in seeing the prototype for it yourselves, check out his post in the first linked topic regarding badge addition suggestions :3

I'm actually really glad you guys changed the member badges. I especially love the Changeling ones, and I do think it would have been to hard to get a Certified Brony. One question though, what if someone has over 7000 posts, will they keep the unicorn or will another badge be made for them?

Well, now we see why we have extra badges for the members. They look pretty stylish, luckily the staff members have their criticism shields ready just in case that a war starts to break out. I actually like the newly added badges.

In other news, for those too lazy to track down the 'prototype' of the griffon badge, here's the work of crappy art in the flesh(?)

 

 

The other reason it wasn't used is because the anti-aliasing was a pain, and it still looks pixelated. (Maybe my program is bad with it.) I didn't want this thing on here as a badge. Of course, the biggest reason is still that it doesn't really fit. ^_^"

This is cool. The ladder looks to be more balanced out now between the different badges. But now I feel as if I'll never reach Pegasus. This saddens Fluttershy.

These new badges are pretty nice. I kind of miss the brony badge though but oh well. Liking the whole Equestria theme, so I understand why the two brony badges had to go. I like how the gap between badges aren't super distant from one another (it was pretty ridiculous how far away certified brony was from brony), and now the users who had the brony badge will have new ranks to look forward to. Oh yeah, it's kind of funny how some users will have to earn their old badge again XD

 

One downfall though is that the pony ranks are a little high. We're barely going to have any unicorns or pegasus ponies around here now D: The previous post amounts were nice because we had a good amount of pony badges around, but now they're going to be a lot rarer.

I used to be a Pegasus, until the Staff decided to mess around with the amount of posts needed.

 

To be honest, I'm quite happy with the current badge update, especially when it encourages me to start posting some more so I don't have to stay as a Pony anymore.

 

Good job Jokuc, the style of the Crystal Pony badge is exactly the same compared to the other Pony badges!

Well I'm glad to see more badges were added, I always said there was way too big a gap in between brony and certified brony. However, I think that instead of changing the number of posts needed for pegasus and unicorn, those should have just been left alone, and the new badges should have just been added after the brony badge. So everything would be the same except there would be more badges after brony now. That would make a lot more sense to me than mixing everything around.

I do agree with you, I would have wanted the other badges after our current ones. Though I understand the mods because it seems logical to go from Creatures to Ponies. And eh, whatever it is just a picture below your avatar Look at your old-new badge with other eyes when you get them
