What job did you want while growing up?

It changed so much, my first job I wanted was to be a singer, then a comedian, then a comedian in sitcoms, then an archeologist, then I wanted to be an osteologist to dig up dinosaur bones and the like.

Now I have no idea what I want to be, but I wish maybe to be an animator. or maybe voice actor? who knows where life will take me after highschool, and that is soon.

Well?

When I was a younger girl, I wanted to be a doctor, I even had a play stethoscope and fake medical equipment.

But, now that I'm a bit older, I want to be any of these:

  • Detective
  • Criminal Psychologist
  • Therapist
  • Forensic Scientist

How about you all? Has the job you originally wanted been switched out for another?

I wanted to make video games like the big boys at Nintendo or whoever while growing up, but the video game program at New England Tech and the work required for it it was not exactly reachable. I also considered networking, which - whaddya know, I ended up taking :P

Welp, here are mine:

-Police officer/firefighter

-Meteorologist

-Airline pilot

-Astronomer

-Aerospace engineer

-Airline pilot again!

Surprisingly most of these jobs have something to do with the sky (except the first one, but that's because I didn't know about all the jobs that existed).

I'm studying aerospace at the moment, but if I find out all the technical stuff is a bit too much for me, I'm just going to take to the skies!

Also, I noticed that we don't have too many people here that have very differing possible careers (yours seem to involve criminal justice and psychology, but Jackie is very dynamic with what she wants to do).

Paleontologist: This is what I wanted to be for the first half of my childhood. I read many many Dinosaur Encyclopedias.

Archeologist: This is what I'm actually going to college for.

Detective: I think we all wanted to do this at some point or another.

Engineer: Thought about doing this for a little while in High School.

Chemist: Same as engineer.

Biologist: Same as Chemist.

When I was younger, I always wanted to be an astronaut. I was so obsessed with becoming one that I collected anything space related. I even tried learning all I could about the solar system. :P That changed later on in my life. Now, I'm most likely going to be one of these.

I never had an idea of it when I was little. Way back in 6th grade, I wanted to get in to programming when I stopped being so busy or otherwise lazy, both of which I still am to this day.

I wanted to become a doctor and I actually wanted to do so for years. I didn't change my mind until I was 18 years old. I was obsessed with it and at the time when I was very young I wanted to find a way to get rid of my allergies and asthma. I really wanted a pet at the time but accepted later on that it wouldn't happen. I just lost interest in becoming a doctor, I wanted to become a doctor from the age around 6-8.

I'm probably one of the only people you'll ever hear say this but.., I've completed my life goals already :)

In fact had them done over 7 years ago. I can honestly die happy at any time.

My dreams were fairly simple

Fly aircraft

Join the military and work on military aircraft

Travel the world

Visit Japan at least once in my life

All of it done by the time I was 24 :)

Now all that's left is boring the hell outta me.... Live to pay bills, work, and fret over a mortgage.... yay......

Probably the top two careers I've always dreamt of when I was young was being a geologist and being an astronaut. I always thought and imagined those two careers as being so much fun and really adventurous. ^_^

When i was young, I used to always loved collecting and marveling on like so many different kinds or rocks, gemstones, and all sorts of minerals. There is so much more to the Earth then just dirt and crap, that's how I always saw it as. Plus I liked the idea of venturing out to far destinations and exploring deep caves and stuff to find beautiful rock and mineral specimens. ^_^

And being an astronaut. Are you kidding me? I'd get to go to freakin space! Space! Space! Spppppaaaaceeeeee!!! ^_^

Plus, I've known and still know a whole lot about the universe. I knew all the planets in the solar system ever since I was five. I used to always read little kid booklets on all the planets and stars. Oh man, the universe is just so majestic, beautiful, and so full of wonders that it makes me wanna cry in joy sometimes. ^_^

I've always loved the universe and the idea of exploring it one day. That's a dream that I doubt will ever go away. :)

I wanted to be lots of things like

-Computer Engineer
-Programer
-Web designer
-Swimmer
-Paleontologist
-A business man
-A pilot

I actually didn't have much thoughts about having a job related to language learning, I did but it seemed like a little possibility but after figuring out that I'm talented in it, I had started to work on it. Thinking about a job like Translator or something right now. Language knowing can be used in lots of ways so I'm not actually sure about what to do. I will do lots of stuff, I guess. I can be a teacher and do translation jobs in my free time, for example.

I can be still considered to be growing by the way.

I wanted to be a pilot, mostly a stunt pilot because that would be freaking awesome.

Another choice has risen up in my thoughts though, an animator! One day I still want to learn to fly though.

I've wanted to be a couple things when I was younger, but mainly I wanted to work in the family business, house building. I still may do that, but right now I'm trying for a job in the automotive industry, being the total gear head that I am.

Any job that involved blowing sh*t up.

No, really. Demolition was one of my earliest considerations.

Then I watched Mythbusters for the first time and wanted to be a Mythbuster.

Adam always said "TIME FOR SCIENCE!" before they started exploding things or setting them on fire. I was like, "THIS IS WHAT SCIENCE IS?!"

Then, in 10th grade, my chemistry teacher put pure sodium in water.

The rest is history.

When I was 12 I wanted to be a soldier, and you know what? I remained steadfast and held on to that dream for 8 years with determination.

I was graduating from high school with flying colours when I went to enlist into the Canadian Forces. But I sadly didn't get past the aptitude test over fancy mathematics. Then I went back to high school for a "victory lap" as it was called and math was amongst one of the classes I took.

I went back to do the aptitude test a second test... same result.

So for 2-3 years I've had a hard time in life ever since, not knowing much else. But I've held on to a new dream, to find something else in life for me.

I've wanted to be an archaeologist, or become a scientist in biochemistry. When I started reading Sherlock Holmes ( I was about 10-11), I thought becoming a detective would be nice.

I gave up on science because I am very poorly successful with maths. Then, when I had to choose a studying matter I hesitated with web design and history. Since I chose history I guess I can say I also wanted to do web and game design as well.

I wanted to be a helicopter pilot, but since I am an epileptic that definitely isn't the job for me. Now I have my sights set on being an animator or screenplay writer.

I wanted to be a violinist.

Unfortunately, my parents were never very supportive of me doing music and it never happened.

I eventually picked up a pencil and took up drawing. A little late in the game, mind you. Most people who took up some kind of art started a lot longer before I did, so I've always felt a bit behind.

I wanted to be a veterinarian for the longest time. Then when I switched majors in college, I found my true passion which is history. Now I'm just unsure if I want to be a historian or work in a museum. Hmm.
