Rainboom Dash 1,056 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 I think becoming a brony is a matter of choice. People can choose to watch the show and join the fandom or they don't. In my way I had known about the show before officially joining.
Guest September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 I don't think anyone is born with any sort of genetic pre-desposition for liking a particular tv show. Seriously, saying that becoming a brony was caused by genetics is like saying being homosexual or otherwise is caused by genetics Bad example, as homosexuals are born gay, you don't get to choose who you're attracted to, it's instintual. Faulty Roze 200 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 What can I say, I chose to become on. After all, I hated it to begin with. Can you even become a brony by genetics? if that is a yes, then I guess the son of toxic waste cause TMNT and Adventure time are also awesome to me! Super Derpy 535 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 It's a choice. It's honestly just silly to think that liking MLP is caused by genetics. It just doesn't make sense and that means from the moment we are born we will know what we like and don't like. Weird O_o Thanks to LittleRawr for the signature! Smarts 1,622 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 (edited) We obviously chose to be bronies. We all watched the show, looked at art, read fanfics, or something of the sort and were attracted to MLP to the point where we chose to become bronies. Winona the Dog 1,984 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 Of course it all comes to choice. Almost everything is decided by the choices you make. Rarely is anyone born with things. Ponies are obviously a choice and I doubt anything else that said otherwise.
Administrator Sir Hugsalot 9,349 September 8, 2013 Administrator Share September 8, 2013 In my opinion most of us would just laugh if someone told them, that they will be fans of My Little Pony about 4-5 years ago. So it's a choice of course. As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person. RrVPfX9cPtw59FpC 1,304 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 It's actually a very philosophical question. Think of what you had for breakfast this morning. Did you choose it? Probably. But what did you have? Is it possible that you had something else (Unless you have a bad memory)? Nope! We all take one path, and have no choice over that path, but it is ourselves that choose what that path is. I know, it's complicated 3 This signature was removed for being too obnoxious and arrogant. -Makusu2 By the way, if you're talking to me in a thread, please quote my previous post. Scootalove 10,689 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 That's a good question, I think when we first saw the show we thought that it would be bad until we watched it for the first time. It is a natural choice that we make, we're not born into it. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Unnamed 9 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 I think, when I was born, I was meant to DISLIKE the show at first, but I broke all of genetics. I broke genetics and LOVED the show. And now genetics hate me, which is why I have to be best friends with Pinkie Pie, so she can block the genetics from killing me.
Th3 Chaos Theory 89 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 The first time I saw it, I was like 11 or something and I liked it. So probably, maybe if you have an interest on the show or your parents are a brony and pegasister. THE MARKER
Frith is Magick 1,471 September 8, 2013 Share September 8, 2013 Everything we do is done by choice, there is no genetic pre-disposition. That being said, choices are influenced by countless different factors. Everything that happens affects countless things down the road. We are not born bronies, but the circumstances of our birth led to the decision being made the way it was. Keep flyin'
Jamesblorg39welsh 125 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 Its a Choice I mean just like people aren't born gay they aren't born bronies I mean can you imagine being born a family guy fan "If you feel the need to treat me like garbage, I'll feel the need to throw you into the back of a compressing garbage truck." "I'd rather "go to hell" for hugging a guy I like then makeout in heaven with a girl I don't." ~Silver Essence~ 2,625 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 We choose to be bronies. It's the choice of whether or not we want to, and honestly, I'm a big fan to not reject the fandom. Overall, it's the show, the writers, and the fans that make's me choose to be a fan.
Rockymoo 2,137 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 Wait. How can one be born into a fandom? By nature and not nurture, no less? What's more, how can this possibly be compared to homosexuality? They're nothing alike. Becoming a brony is entirely up to the fan or potential fan himself/herself. I don't have any genetic coding in my body dictating that I'll be a part of a fandom that didn't exist until 17 or 18 years after I was born. Batbrony 16,055 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 Born a brony? Heck no! There were 3.5 generations of ponies before G4, and I never liked any of them in the slightest (never even watched them for that matter). I most certainly chose to become a brony based on MLP's high quality and the amazing fandom devoted to it. 1 "You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos 1,206 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 I voted that I blame genetics for my awesomeness, because that sounds really funny. But, yeah, it is ultimately your choice, I just thought that second option was too funny to pass up. Signature made by- Kyoshi Make sense? KruegerMeister 54 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 It is naught that of a Choice It is naught caused by one Voice It is not created through a Gene And woe to those who are Mean For a Brony is Born and never Made So embrace the darkness Embrace the Shade! Ummm...wat? Major props for the cool poem, but doesn't being born with some quality imply that there's a genetic cause? If it's not a choice, or a gene, then what is it? My personal headcanon is that there's some kind of latent gene. I'm mostly basing this on how I remember playing with Littlest Pet Shop toys as a kid, and the cartoon based off of it airs immediately after (or before, I'm not sure) MLP. Pretty much New Age-y pseudoscience-y stuff.

Justin_Case001 4,896 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 If you subscribe to the theory of universal causality, then the law of physics state that everything is what it is, and cannot be any other way unless the starting conditions are changed. Thus, free will is an illusion, and every single event, decision, thought, and action in this universe could never have happened any other way unless the big bang happened differently. Therefore, we were always going to become bronies, and they only way to possibly change that would be to alter the starting conditions, the big bang. Admiral Regulus 2,769 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 In all seriousness, what are you smoking? A brony is a fan of the show My Little Pony. Saying genetics is the cause of your enjoyment of a show is nothing short of predeterminist, and honestly rather silly. They don't work that way - genetics can have some effect on your personality, however for the most part who you are is determined by external stimuli and how you reacted to them. Actually, it's interesting that you mention that. Scientists think they've been able to isolate specific genes which determine even things like political affiliation. If genes can shape political views, it stands to reason that genes can also determine whether one would like FiM or not. Tumblr

Shenron00 366 April 26, 2014 Share April 26, 2014 Most of who we are is usually a result of what kind of environment we were raised in. When it comes to opinions, those can be something you get naturally, or theu could be the result of being raised in a place that encourages/discourages a certain subject. For example: I was raised in an environment that highly encourages sports (mainly base/softball and football), but I hate sports. Me hating sports is a taste that came to me naturally. A result of how I was raised would be.....well I can't come up with anything right now, but I'll get back to you. Yo! I'm Shenron00, but you can call me “Shen” if you want! Thanks to WheatleyCore for the sig! BTW, yes, I do realize that's Carnage and not Shenron.
