Twilight- no flowing mane for you
Nature's Spell replied to Nature's Spell's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
That could be and would apply to Cadence too. My head canon was that the sisters's manes flow because they are connected to nature (sun and moon) while Twilight and Cadence are princesses of feelings-friendship and love. But love and friendship are even more eternal than the sun and moon so who knows. -
So I was talking to my daughter about the episode and it suddenly dawned on me that Twilight's mane did not begin to flow like Celestia and Luna's does, even after absorbing their magic. The sisters manes did stop once they gave up their magic, but returned two normal as soon as it returned. So that means it's tied to their magic, but did not transfer to Twilight. A few possibilities: 1. That part of their magic was too specific to them and Twilight's mane didn't respond to it. Maybe this proves they are a different class of Alicorn? 2. The magic was too unstable, but once it settled she would have gained the flowing mane/tail. 3. The writers/ artists forgot or didn't want to do it. The whole keep your powers secret was stupid and pointless so it would have hardly mattered. Thoughts?

I think a lot depends upon what you think a more Brony friendly version would look like. I'm more lienent of it catering to the demographic bacause I'm the father of one and she enjoys it as it is. Heck she's almost a Brony with her level of interest. If I could change the show I would want them to pay even more attention to canon, backstory, Equestria history, world building and continuity. The writers can be very loose goose with those matters. Those are the big and overriding issues that Bronies should be concerned about I think. Shipping and things like that seem to be more a matter of taste, so they would vary.

Really great job! Brohoof for you! I'm not sure I agree with everything, but a awesome effort. My main issues are with the sisters in that I still think they were born Unicorns and ascended to Alicorns. I'm also convinced the writers have no idea where to place Star Swril or how he fits into the pony history. I'm also unclear why people think the last four seasons are really one year. I've always felt that each season is more or less a part of one year.

Twilight's Kingdom being a movie instead?
Nature's Spell replied to Nemesis Atlas's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
It's always nice to have more time with our favorite ponies, but I'm honestly not sure it would have made the store any better. I'm also not sure I agree with the idea that there was no build up to Twilight wanting more from her princessship. Was it subtitle? Yes. Should they have done more? Hell yeah! The conflict started with the first two episodes where her friends started treating her differently and continued with Rarity Takes Manehatten and her lack of attention in RTM is contrasted with how she was treated in Twilight Time. Even the way she downplayed her role in Trade Ya foreshadows her discontent in the finale. People ask when did she want princess duties? That question misses the point. She accepts that she is a princess, but she's also still Twilight Sparkle, and as a pony, she feels useless. You can't disconnect Twilight Sparkle from Princess Twilight Sparkle. They are the same pony, so it's natural the she would want to make something of her new life, since in many ways her life stood still since she ascended.- 21 replies

I always remember a filly that looked a lot like Cheerilee in the Cutie Mark Chronicles and the general consensus was that it was her and she's the same age as, at least, Rarity. Mayor Mare is definitely middle aged (50-60) and Mrs. Cake is getting toward middle age and in her late 30s or mid 40s. Shinning Armor and Cadence are late 20s and in my mind Cadence is a bit younger. But this is all head canon and we have no canon ages and may never.

How did Tirek know about Princess Cadence?

Let's talk about magical ability level in alicorns.
Nature's Spell replied to Axsel's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Cadence said it best, Twilight, you represent the Element of Magic. If there is anypony who can do this, it's you. I think Twilight is more magically gifted both in raw power and ability to control it, but her magic is much less focused and specific than the other princesses. Cadence might be more like that too since she and Twilight are princesses of emotions (love and friendship) whereas the sisters control natural objects sun and moon. -

One head canon I've read is that Pegesis are all orphans, I doubt that, or her parenta are dead. I don't see DHX/Hasbro having two sets of dead parents, so scratch that one too. Other thing that is bandy-about is Scootoloo's situation and how we never see her parents or until recently her home. Connections are often made between her situation and Fluttershy. The other thing to think about is why would we see the parents of independent young adults anyway? We saw Rarity's parents because we were introduced to SweetieBell, who's still living with her parents. Twilight's parents were seen at the wedding and coronation, which makes sense, but they never interacted with their kids. Pinkie Pie was a flashback. My point is that there were reasons when we saw parents and for the other characters we've just not had the right vehicle for them to show up. With all that said, I do agree that Fluttershy may not have been very close to her parents, or maybe she was the youngest of several children, and as a weak flyer, was shunned.

Tirek and Twilight were evenly matched and the only way to get the Alicorn magic was to force her to give it up. The implication is that the princesses are more powerful than every pony and Discord. Rainbow magic is apparently so powerful that nothing can resist it or defend against it. Saying "release him" was the perfect thing to say. Twilight was in no mood to make flowery speeches about friendship. She was pissed.

People are getting too fixated on the word "leader". There is no leader of the friends, but they often look to Twilight for leadership and there is a difference. Even before she became a princess, when they were in need they would look to Twilight and in her absence AJ. Heck Rartity even said outloud, in Princess Twilight Sparkle 2, that they were lost without Twilight. I know that dialogue might burst some bubbles and head canons, but it's perfectly true and show canon. What does this all mean? I guess just that Twilight is willing to step up, but also perfectly happy to be in the background and just a friend, especially being the Princess of Friendship.
