  1. This... I'm pretty critical of the movie after one viewing. Like... 6 out of 10 critical.... But that being said. Depth was not a issue. It was actually one of the strengths of the movie. Even the person I went with that had never seen ponies (And was not a huge fan of the movie, not being able to really figure out what was up with the characters) Actually enjoyed at least Tempest for the reason of being pretty dynamic.
  2. Meh, I disagree. As some one who actually went to see the movie with some one who had never seen the show (A adult who had never) She was totally disinterested in the movie. Because she had no frame of reference with the characters. Simply put she had no ideal if they where acting out of character or what to expect.... If anything some behaviour is down right annoying without frame of reference. (Rarity or Pinkie for instance) She actually looked right at me and was like "Why do they put up with the pink one? She seams to be making everything harder." She is by the way interested in the show... but was before hand, and actually had to tell me. "I'm still interested in watching the show after this." As in.... "Despite not enjoying the movie. I'm still interested in see the movie." - This is not a thing with the ponies movie. Its a thing with tie in movies. Its just hard to tell a story mid stream that people with no experience will enjoy. - Its kind of like people who watch Star Trek The Wrath of Khan having never watched star trek before. Its literally so distracting trying to figure out what the hay is going on, that it makes the movie hard to enjoy. - I'll ask my brother in law what he thought also. He has not seen the show proper but is the kind of person that most likely could get into it... and he got dragged to the movie also. Side note: He dragged my sister to Blade Runner also.. She hated it because she had no ideal what was going on.. never having seen the first movie.
  3. Something I keep trying to explain to ponies is this simple point. The movie started to be made in the middle of season 5..... A lot of the character that where missing.. Simply where not things at the time. The question that keep getting asked about cannon status is simple.. Its going to be cannon and not mentioned, because that's how most everything is done in this show. The reason we didn't end up with Changelings, Dragons, Yaks, Hippogriffs, Gryphons and a collection of the most powerful... things in the setting is simple. Most of them where not present in when the script was done. Even the cameos we get of ponies like trixie and starlight are just that... Cameos... Because they where added late in the production. This is a no starter point with me, and I always knew it was going to be a problem. because the show does not do its story line that far ahead of time. (Actually at all in a lot of cases)
  4. Something that I feel a lot of people miss. Is that the Critical score is just that. Its a critical score. Its basically a score on if the Movie is "TECHNICALLY" Good. And for the most part I mostly agree with it. Look I love bad kung fu movies. But I would never argue they are good... (Or even not bad) Enjoyable and technically good are different.... Pinocchio is one of the (Most likely the) Most technically perfect animated movies ever. Because Walt looked it over frame by frame... But I hate Pinocchio.. I mean actually hate... My enjoyment or lack of does not make something well written, well paced, well shot and so on. And yes.. The movie has a lot of things that it did a... meh job on.... It has a lot of stuff it did well. And it has some stuff it strait out screwed up on.... - And this was always going to be a movie that was hard to watch if you where not a fan of the show. As some one pointed out. "Ewww Ponies" Was a reaction that happens some times. And those Critics should be ignored... That being said. The rating would still be on the high end of mid way. I give it a 6-7 out of 10 as a movie... And I enjoyed the poop out of it....
  5. Suprising? Yes... Out of character... not at all. She has a long history of losing her Manure when stuff gets stressful. She (Nor any of the characters) Is perfect. The closest we get I feel Is Cadence. And give that a while.
  6. Actually. I'm super happy they used there 1 exception... One Exception? Ya PG Kids movies are generally given one exception on killing people off on screen. Some times more then one. (Think Lionking) It gets a bit of wiggle room if there is no body and you don't actually see the death. But as many people have pointed out.... Sombra also dies. (Unless you count comics, and we don't) - But it should also be noted that.. no most villains don't get redemption.... Most Antagonists do. Few of the Antagonists are strait out Villains. Trek. (Who does not get Redemption) Sombra. (Same) Queen Cheeselegs. (Not let, but I expect that in season eight) but most of the other Antagonists where just jerks and or had to learn something. Starlight and Discord are kind of exceptions. But I argue that even Discord was more just a character acting on his nature with no regard for anypony else. (He needed to learn something)
  7. Let's just throw this out there... This movie started production in season 5... A lot of characters where simply not around in there current forms then. Starlight. Trixie. Discord. Even the royal guard to some degree.... And look I know that a good number of the cast HAD to be useless at times, but WOW did the ponies seam super useless /helpless in the first half of this movie.
  8. I'll be honest.. I was a bit stunned by how 100% Useless / Helpless the Ponies seamed at times in this movie in the first half... Like it was Jarring... It was still better then I figured it would be. (I give it 7 out of 10)
  9. Avatar above me eats at Friendship table.. Most likely pancakes.
  10. OK... I'm not going to make a list.. I'm not going to make a list..... Right so I'm just going to be frank.... The Books and Comics are not Cannon. There not even Cannon B... There none cannon. Period. Because the way the show is now (And has almost always) been produced. Anything not in the show proper will be ignored and countered by episodes without thought. The books even do this, They just tend to do it in areas that are never really going to be proven right/wrong. We are most likely never going to get a in show explanation of how/why Cadence is a Alicorn... So it can't be proven wrong in the book. There not going to tell us how/why Scoots seams parentless (We have seen her room, so we know she had a house) Even if we DO see her parents... They will very likely literally just show them and act like they where always there and it was never a issue. So really anything in the books, while interesting.. Can't really be considered shocking, until it makes it into the show.
  11. Yes in so much as it would at least get the ideal that its a girly show with no action and or deeper acting in it out of the way.... But... No overall. And for a few reasons. (AGAIN WITH MY LISTS! I think I need help...) - #1: No one likes coming into a movie without the knowledge needed to actually, well... Enjoy the movie. A new viewer is not going to get any character references. There not going to get Cameos. And there not going to get the weight of actions as much. (Twilight screwing the pooch is not as hard hitting if you don't know how she normally acts) #2: There are simply better ways to introduce them... Like the Pilot.. (First 2 episodes) #3: In fact.. some parts of the movie where kind of jarringly off what I would expect from the show. The Ponies seemed... Well pretty much useless/helpless in the first 1/2 to 2/3rds of the movie... Jarringly so....
  12. Didn't like? Sure I didn't like her... But I didn't dislike her. I felt she was pretty tone neutral. - But a few notes. (Because I seriously have a thing for numbered lists... Like its starting to bother me) #1: She's a celebrity. That's it. It really did not matter who they got. Honestly she's just Cheese Sandwich with less development. #2: You would actually be stunned at how well cross promotion works. Having worked for a large mouse based Media Company. Its actually crazy how well it works. As in, Yes some of her fans will look into the movie and or the fandom at large. And More importantly for the point of cross promotions, Some of the fanbase will become fans of hers. (The Reason you don't have to pay that much for Cross Promotion) Actually a lot of times you Don't pay at all. So you are literally getting a professional level song for nothing in a lot of cases. #3: As far as her taking up time that could have been used? No... The movie needed some empty time.... Not only that the ideal of making the movie longer (It was only 99 minutes) is a no starter. Literally it is death in most cases for a Kids movie to run over about 100 minutes. (Because let's not forget we are enjoying a kids show that's just happens to be good enough to be enjoyed by adults) - Over all the movie was on the high end of what I expected in that I give it a 6-7 out of 10 for a Adult friendly Kids movie... And I consider this character about the same, Better then what I figured it would be. But still not great.
  13. Well to answer to a comment before. There are no real indications that it is not going to be cannon. But as to the indication that it 100% is or that its between season 7 and 8. - Well let's address a few things. #1: It can't be 'planned' that way. Literally the movie crew had no ideal what Season 7 would be like. The Movie has been in production for two years. That's why we only get Cameo Shots of Starlight and she does nothing. That's why they don't go to the Changelings for help. Or the Dragons or anything like that. Because those events had not taken place when the movie started production or the story was finalized. #2: Even the connections we have are in fact not able to be fitted into the ideal that it was planned. The mentioning of sea ponies ignores that we only find out about the sea Pony thing in the movie. Thus any reference was not planned to be a tie in. So... While we may get references to the movie in season eight, Its not likely we are going to get references that requir you have watched the movie.
  14. -I know that this should be a non-required thing at this point but- SPOILERS... Maybe a little. I'm going to assume so. But I don't expect it to be referenced all that much ether. I don't think its going into DragonBallZ movie territory. Where the movies are just flat out not cannon and are more or less "other world" stories. But it may end up in Garlic Jr Territory... Where it DOES actually end up referenced, just in a way that does not require the movie to be watched.... (Let me explain that if your not a DragonBall Fan) - I don't think we are going to get a episode where they talk about "That one time that X did Y" In reference to the movie. But we may very well get a episode where they use assets from the movie. I.E. We may get a episode with Hippogriffs or something. - If they did make the movie Sub-Cannon... I would love for them to just use Tempest as a background pony or a reference every now and then.. Like.. As a royal guard or something. (Actually don't they need a new Captain of the guard?) Actually now that we mention it.. Twilight's Tree Really needs guards already....
  15. Again while I respect your opinion. I'm really just going to come out and say it. With maybe one or two exceptions. The voices are not really all that distinct.... Talented? Yes... Distinct? now. Tara is a very talented, but I actually know people who can do dead on Twilight voices. Pinkie is super easy because its not a natural speaking voice. Applejack is a Accent less then a voice not hard to do. Fluttershy? Maybe a little harder but not by much.... Really Rainbow Dash and Rarity are the only one's that would be hard to replace. And Dash could be replaces to a point that kids would most likely not pick up. Tabitha would be the only one that would be really all that hard. And Supporting Casts? Big Mac? Not even close, the voice actor is not distinct at all. Flim Flam Bros are so hammy that that voice would be a dime a dozen. (I can do a pretty good Flim Flam actually) - Some of the supporting cast would be harder to replace. (Nicole Oliver for Instance) And sorry, people who think you can your cash cow over one VA have no experience or ideal how media companies work... And again this ignore the simple point again.... Kids would notice less then Adult... And kids are still the Major demographic. It also ignores the point that VA leaving is only a issue if you can't get close enough with the voice and or... Find talented voice actors to replace them. Simply put, you might have a actress replace Applejack and Dash (Or two actresses) And they might sound different but be just as good at the job if not a little better. And this is also just ignoring that you might.. you know... balance the voice acting around. I.E. We just get a lot less of one of the characters.
  16. To be honest... I think we get plenty of Emotion from Twilight. Its just mostly awkward emotion. Which is fine, not everyone is a crying person. (Everyone cries, but not every one's go to is crying) Twilight is for the most part not a crying Pony. (With one spoiler worth notice) And if she did it more often I feel like it would cheapen the moments where we DO see real powerful emotion from her.
  17. I'm just going to go out on a limb on this. Because I HAVE actually worked in the industry before. (Disney not Hasbro) - A few things would be possible. In least to Most likely.... #4: They would end the show.... -Simply put, as a company you don't end your cash cow show because a actor leaves unless its literally unavoidable. And in VA that's almost never. Now if the show was hovering around the level of "Just making some money" And Hasbro thought that they could do something more profitable with the IP. Then they would end it in the show part of the IP. -FiM will however more or less never die at this point. There will be comics so on and so on until the sun explodes. That's how stuff works now in the internet age. #3: They would 'end' the character. -Depending on the character they may simply have the character "Go Away" now.. there is one huge problem with that however. That would be hard to wright in and would only happen if the VA was simply 100% unavailable for... What ever reason. Its much more likely... #2: They would push the character to the back burner. -Majorly important character in the show already are only seen a few times a season. Celesta, Luna, Cadence. So on and so on. You really would not notice in the show all that much if say.. There was only one or two Rarity Episodes a season. And the VA is not going to turn down 'Guest' pay. For a Episode or two. This is most likely what they would do with some one from the Main 6. (Which I think is only 4 VA) #1: They would get a replacement. - There are VERY few VA in the industry that you can't replace without little to no one noticing. I can most likely only make a short list... -I personally know people who can do dead on impersonations of some of the cast... and that's really all it takes. -It also ignores something I think a lot of us forget.... The show is for kids. And kids don't think about stuff like that nearly as much as we do. Yes Bronies are a worth while market force for the show, but they are not THE cash cow. Simply put... They would replace the VA or push the character into the background a bit more. Ether would be fine depending on how they did it. Really Tabitha is the only main six VA that I would really really notice. (I lova Tara but Twilight is simply now a super distinct sounding character like say.. Raven from TT was)
  18. I think it was pretty clear the school was at a "OK with" Level. In That they where OK with her being around. But they where all clearly giving her the cold shoulder. And yes, that is a indication that some one does not like you. but they where at the very least civil with her. Now past that, if some one contests they didn't pick up on the cold shoulder treatment. Or the very clear and powerful "Take a hike" Vibe they where all giving off. That's a matter of your interpretation. That what pretty much every one I know got. (Including the target audience) And its also the clearly state narrative of the story.
  19. Well you asked for Beautiful. Not Cute. Because Cute the answer would be Twilight easy. Followed by Luna. But for Beautiful? Its going to be Cadence or Celestia. I want to say Celestia... Because she is my favorite, but I think It might be Cadence. Celestia has Majestic however....
  20. I'm not going to say your wrong... But as a side note. Can you give a example? -Also as a side note. BlueBlood is a Prince. I'm pretty sure that means that literally most of the royal family is made up of Princes/Princesses.
  21. I got to say. This character is the best part of the movie for me. I really would like her to show up as a background pony in the show proper. I really actually want her to be a Royal guard... Also as a side note, Twilight's castle needs to darn security.
  22. No sleep for 30+ hours.... Can't sleep. Went for "a walk" at 3am and ended up walking 10 miles from my house and having to call my sister to come pick me up. Didn't even realize I had gone that far.
  23. Oh ya... Like I said. Make any OC anyone wants to. Just to make other have to put up with them. And again, ya its very likely that some one some one can make a non-alicorn OC that's a mary sue. Its just that almost all OC's Alicorn I have seen ARE Mary sues. I might run across one who's not some day. But I don't think so. And If I do, I really feel like its going to be some one actually going out of there way to make a lame/sad sack Alicorn OC... -------------- I was in truth pretty ammused when some one told me that you needed a OC to really be a bornie... I mean I think I have made one MLP OC in the whole five years I have watched the show for a game. And it was a bat pony lychee farmer.
  24. For the most part I'm 100% Indifferent to OC's to be honest..... But... In this example I am not. I'm very sorry to say that Alicorn OC's are the most cancerous of Cancer. Like... Super Cancer. For a great many reasons. But greatest among them is simply that the chances of a Alicorn OC being a strait out Mary Sue is about 95% in my experience. And even the one's that are not are more or less missing a important point. And that's that making a character in a setting that's one of the most power in the setting is not enjoying said setting. Its wish fulfillment. Which is fine, but please don't inflict it on other people. Its not a matter of making some one who's powerful in a setting. It a matter of making some one who's one of if not the most powerful in a setting AND would be instantly recognized and fawned over. That's not to say I'm stating you CANT make a good Alicorn OC, I in fact have seen some very well written Alicorn OC's.. But I have NEVER seen a well played one...
