I think I have talked about this before. But I love episodes that basically revolve around the ponies losing there shit.... And this is interesting in so much as its one of those episodes but it does not actually revolve around AppleJack doing something against her nature. - Like for instance a epsiode where Rarity is selfish. Ya.. Because even the most generous people are selfish some times. Even the most honest people are dishonest some time. This one is a episode where Applejack actually simply refuses to be honest.. but refusing to be dishonest. She actually avoids the issue all together. And that's a pretty good story/lesson to be honest. I give it 3 out of 5. not because its bad, but because... well its a little boring...

S02:E15 - The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000
blackstarraven replied to Twilight Sparkle ✨'s topic in Season 2 Discussion
Am I the only pony who think that the Apply Family where the one's being stupid in the episode? I mean really they where the one's holding all the apples. _ They actually more or less screwed themselves out of a huge deal on this. Because the only reason that the Brothers lost is because they literally got hit with the idiot ball. They literally could have just made 1/2 as much cider and they could have sorted the apples easier. _ The Apples more or less almost lost there entire farm because of nothing but stupid pride. And only won because they happened to be going up against idiots. -
Well as a young stallion who was partially raised by a (Now) 101 year old (And still in better health then most of my family) Great Grand Mother who lived through being Jewish in Germany in World War II. Being in Israel for the war for independence and then moving to the USA.. I can really get behind this kind of "Your elders are not really weird, they just do things the way they do because that is how it got done back in the day" That being said... This show goes a long way to solving one of my problems with granny smith. In that she goes strait into "Annoying old person" Territory. Now Mind you.. I like older people a lot more then most people my age. but it seams like if you take a annoying person and then they get old... It only makes them More Annoying, because now they think they are some how special because of it. - And.. no I am ranting... The episode is good. I love that we get to see ponies in older times. and... OMGGHOLSOISDUFLJHWELKRJWLKGS LDSLK PRINCESS CELESTIA! ~foams at the mouth~ ALL HAIL GODDESS EMPRESS CELESTIA! - Old Timey Celestia: "Yes yes.. I know I am THAT hot... Now dirty mud ponies.. go and settle this dangerous terrible swamp near the terrible dangerous forest so I have a better view from my City on the Hill.

5outof5... Jolly good show... _ Really I'm a sucker for world building. And this is good world building. I enjoy that it is.. well Christmas. But that's its not. Just like with Halloween and nightmare night. I like to actually see the information of pony holidays. Good stuff all around... I honestly... could have done without the story being told 100% with the cast we know.. I would have just as well liked to have see it with original characters. but... That would have taken a lot more work, so I'm ok with it.
-
1outof5... Which is really really sad. Because there is a lot I like about this episode... And by a lot I mean. Pinkie... I Like Pinkie in this episode.. Which is also funny. Because I don't like Pinkie... Well I don't normally like her, I don't dislike her much... _ But this is like MMD, It seams like a bad fanfic. There are so many problems with the story, and while a few of them can be explained. They require to you actually TRY to explain them. _ SOOOOOO.... #1: WHY CAN THIS DEMON BABY PEGASUS FLY?!?!? - look we can see that this is not normal. They try to say that its normal for small babies to fly.. but that makes no sense what so ever. I would be fine if they openly admitted it was strange... I actually argue that twilight is like a 'weird' radiation machine anyways. #2: WHY CAN THIS DEMON BABY UNICORN LEVITATE/DO MAGIC?!?!?! - Ok I can actually except that there is a good argument for levitation of the baby... Because let's say that the average unicorn can levitate a few pounds... well the baby only weights a few pounds.. It would be like saying a Hobbit can only bench press 60lbs. (Compared to a normal human males 140lbs) Well ya... but That's about a human's body weight. That''s TWICE a hobbits. But still... Why can the baby unicorn do that in the first place? We have established that Sweetybell has trouble doing stuff with her horn... #:3: WHY ARE THE DEMON BABIES UNNATURALLY SMART?!?!? - I mean seriously. These two are clearly as smart as the CMC's They just can't talk... They can clearly understand speech. They can emote. They can more or less do everything that a mute could do... And its a pretty big issue. I'm will to except that ponies get there stuff together quicker then we normally would think of. (That's pretty accurate from a house standpoint) But still.... _ A real shame.. Because I actually do think they are really cute. I really do like Pinkie in this episode. But I like pinkie with the writers kind of... well pull her stupidness back and just go with oddball.

5outof5. This episode was really interesting to be for a very special reason. ____ You see at a very early point It occurred to me what Spikes role in the show is. He's the little brother. To be specific he's the brother that is only a year or so younger then 'you' the you in this case being Twilight. The interesting point is that I was that brother as a kid. ___ Grew up with a bunch of sisters, and a bunch of sisters friends. Spent way more time with girls then with guys (Thank goodness) And fit pretty much every point of this trope. ___ Spike is basically a cool little brother. And at some point in that brothers life... they hit puberty.. and ya... That's what this is about....

Hmmm...... 3 out of 5.... _ Its alright. Its good. Its fine... bla bla bla. I like tank... RD actually gets rather annoying in this episode.. And not in a good way. Its not a episode I go out of my way to watch, but its one that I don't mind watching. _ Up side: tortoise love... Down Side: Needs more Alicorns. -

S02:E05 - Sisterhooves Social
blackstarraven replied to LyraHeartstrings's topic in Season 2 Discussion
Why... Why was there no Luna/Celestia in this... I want... NAY DEMAND! THAT IN THE FUTURE WE GET A EPISODE WHERE LUNA/CELESTIA compete against TWILIGHT/CADENCE in the sisterhoof social..... ALL HAIL THE ALICORN GOD-EMPRESSES..... Ez.... Empressessess? Umm.... Yes... _______ now that being said. Great episode. Rarity is always gun. Sweetie Is always good... Except for when she's not. Love the lesson. Love whole thing. As a pony who grew up with six sisters I can appreciate this episode. -
4... out of 5? And the thing is I REALLY like this episode. It the first time we get to see Luna really. And I love her. She's so wonderfully awkward. Its a good episode in so much that its a good lesson. We get to see more of the world. And we get to see more of luna... but then there is the problem.... Pinkie... And I really cant see how the writers / creators could not have seen the problem at hand. And not fixed it. Because its not hard to fix. And it shows a huge issue with the episode as it stands. Pinkie has to be one of the following. #1: Openly and intentionally Cruel. #2: A idiot. #3: A Sociopath. And that's terrible because as the show has gone along I have actually gotten to like Pinkie despite her being annoying at first. And its because the writers seam to keep getting better at using her in way that are not annoying. - Watching this for the first time a few years ago with my nieces and little sister. (I'm the legal guardian of my 22 years younger then me sister and my two nieces) Even they as a 5, 8 & 9 year old looked at me and voiced there problem with Pinkie's actions. And it was a little jarring for the older two. (They both however kind of got that it was just kind of bad writing) The younger one was actually like "Is pinkie bullying Luna?" Yes... Yes she is. Actually from a Adult (That is to say over analytical stand point) Pinkie was basically emotionally/mentally torturing Luna in this. Like.. This would be considered child abuse (If it where a child) As a educator.. I would have a child expelled for this kind of action.. Maybe moved from a School. _______ Now all that being said I know that its is. Again just kind of crap writing... But THATS Jarring in FiM. Because normally they are so careful about this kind of thing. It's a darn shame to, because it is a really good episode! _______________________________________ HOW DARE THE PINK ONE MOCK AND HARM OUR LUNAR PRINCESS! ONE MILLION YEARS DUNGEON, NO TRIALS! BANISHMENT TO THE SUN GULAG FOR HER! ALL HAIL THE ALICORN PRINCESSES!
-
And people wonder why I say that the writers don't know how to use Pinkie. This is the only reason I don't consider this episode perfect. Because a simple part at the end where Pinkie figures out she was actually hurting Luna would have been nice. If pinkie would have actually be sacred and just said "Ya but its pretty fun being scared some times" And went from there... But the simple fact that Pinkie was... more or less mentally/emotionally torturing some one else for her own enjoyment..... Ya I really have issues with this episode.
-
Hmmm.. Hmm.... I... give it 3 out of 5.. but the thing Is. I enjoy this episode but at the same time. I kind of acknowledge that it's bad. Its find to like things you think are bad... Its fine to dislike things you think are good. Its not OK to argue that things are bad and good BECAUSE YOU like them. This is more or less a joke/throw away episode. But one with a good message. (Some times things you don't think are important, are important to some one else) But... The delivery... I like a episode that can laugh at the premise of the show, and the thing is... FiM does that a lot. So its not really all that special. I mean we get jokes about how anal retentive twilight is all the time. This is the first time how ever we get to see her more or less be the open but of a joke. And the problem I have is that this is almost like watching a different show then the one I normally do. In short.... http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IdiotBall Idiot ball.... _____________ Now I'm not actually going to complain about a idot ball episode in FiM because they don't use it that often. Most of the time the characters act the way they act and its consistent. And everyone has off days. So I enjoy this episode... but it just feels like it was written by some one who does not normally do scripts for the show. This feels like one of the guest episodes of Adventure time. (Sorry if you don't get that reference) _____________ A few notes. (And this is just be being over analytical) #1: The sun. -This whole sight gag was pretty funny... it also adds weight to the ideal of Celestia being a troll- #2: 4th wall.. -really a lot of 4th wall breaks going on in this episode. #3: Just... odd Big Mac jokes. -There seam to be a lot of these going around, and there fine, and funny. But just the cheer amount of them is starting to build. _____________ But over all a meh episode of FiM is still pretty darn good.

S02:E01+E02 - Return of Harmony
blackstarraven replied to Ra1nbowCrasH's topic in Season 2 Discussion
Actually. Not to nit pick. but..(Well I teach conversational English) cru·el ˈkro͞o(ə)l/ adjective willfully causing pain or suffering to others, or feeling no concern about it. ma·li·cious məˈliSHəs/ adjective characterized by malice; intending or intended to do harm. Discord is by the very definition of the word... Cruel... He's just not Malicious. The fact that he is causing pain and suffering is not the end game for him. He just does not care that he's doing it. In short. Discord is a sociopath. He lacks empathy. (At first) Now the thing is, that's fine for a bad guy. But that does (For me) Mean that he's just not going to be that interesting at first. I'm liking the character as he develops but in this episode. He's just kind of a middle of the road. Definitely more interesting then Sombra and Treck. But still less interesting narrative wise then Queen cheese legs or Nightmare Moon. But just like Nightmare Moon and Cheese legs, Discord is getting fleshed out pretty well. And the more we get about them, the more I like them. -
So after having looked at a WHOLE bunch of pony stuff from alternate universe ideals like *Fallout Equestria *Pony Star Wars *Pony Star Trek. *The Trotting dead. - It struck me that there was one thing that I had not seen anyone do... Dune... I mean it seams like such a no braine.. Because you know... a huge portion of star wars is actually a dune rip off. (But I still love both so much) ... Well and a lot of Captain harlcok too.. Damn it now i'm thinking about Pony Lijiverse. ____________ So anyways. Anyone have ideals thoughs so on about Pony Dune? ____________ I mean some of it wrights itself... Twilight is Paul... Celestia Jessica. (Maybe Shadom.. no no.. that could be Cadence) Queen Cheese legs gets to be the Baron Vladamir... Work in Spice being some kind of firendship drug. So on so on... ________________________ As a side note about Pony star wars.

movies/tv DISNEY DEBATES: Is Pocahontas really that bad?
blackstarraven replied to PonyFunk's topic in Media Discussion
Is it "THAT" bad? I don't know... how bad is that bad? Is the movie bad? no.. its still better then most every other animated film you can compare it to that was not Disney "Golden Decade" Level. And all the Disney stuff takes liberty... Something to consider. While not based on a real person. Alladin is based on a story. from 1000 and 1 Arabian nights. And Aladdin... Is Chinese. No really. The opening line in the story is "Once appone a time a young Chinese boy named Aladdin." Its also set in China... but the place has a Sultan and every one is Muslim... (It was being made up on the spot in the book mind you) Point is.. ya none of them are going to be exactly right.... now that being said... Was it Good? Meh.. Like I said its better then comparative non-Disney stuff at the time. its comparable with Anastasia (Not a Disney movie) Which is also a BS movie about a real (Dead at the time) Person. Its not bad. But its not good. Its bad by Disney Standards. But Bad Disney is like Bad Shakespeare... Its still Shakespeare. Its still better then any one else writing plays at the time... so kind of like Romeo and Juliet... (I don't care its the worse Shakespeare play...) -
animation Is Disney's Hellfire full of controversies
blackstarraven replied to AwesomePony14's topic in Media Discussion
Yes and no. The thing is Controversial means that people are going to be upset by it. But in the movie its not like every Catholic we see is acting/singing/thinking like this. As a matter of fact we have a great example of a good Catholic at the start of the movie. Frolo is a mad man. He literally spends the entire movie justifying things he does in any way he can. The movie does not think to hard about the song because Frolo is clearly wrong about his concept of (Being tempted and blaming it on the female character) - Its actually one of the best songs disney ever did from the perspective of really pushing the envelope. but not in that kind of controversial way. If you want a reason its controversial... Just consider this is a disney movie and he's CLEARLY singing about sexual desire... not romantic feelings. Even as a child it would be almost impossible to take it any other way. (Nor should it be) Hunch Back didn't do well at the box office.. but I actually argue that's because it was the most adult movie Disney did the "The golden decade" -
spoiler Can changelings eat like normal ponies now?
blackstarraven replied to ggg-2's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
As some one already pointed out. They could always eat normal food. I would most likely think they actually NEED to eat. But maybe not. They just always had a hunger for love energy. (It does not even state that they actually need it) Like.. they might just go into DT's. Or maybe they required one and not the other. Like maybe they did not get anything from eating... but they always could. -
Could magic colors run in the family?
blackstarraven replied to ggg-2's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Not to bring in the episode 7 episodes that just came out into discussion. (Spoiler) But its REALLY clear with starlight is using magic. (She's using a red arua caused by her anger) - But I generally agree that the aura is more or less for the viewing audiences benefit. But I think it IS visible. But maybe more so to US. -
#1: I think this is a matter of semantics. In so much as Luna/Celestia didn't come from Eqestria. #2: I have thought about it. So a few points to be made. A: Cadence does not have wavy power hair. B: Cadence is in fact the same overall size and shape as Flu de lease. (To the point that they are in fact.. pallet swaps) - This is not that odd. Sense Cadence just seams to be large for a pony. In the same way that Big Mac and Shining Armor are REALLY big or a stallion. (The same size as Cadence in face, at least in height) -The wings are also interesting, because not only are they larger. They are also built different. Pegasis wings are "Sparrow Wings" - As suppose to Alicorn wings with have a two parted arc, or "Gull wing" shape. This makes perfect sense, sparrows are small birds. Gull wings are found in basically every large flying bird. All the Alicorns have slight variations on each others wings. (Luna's are more articulated like a bats, but still feathered, Celestia has HUGE feather length) 4: Well it should be noted. That in hurricane fluttershy only ponies from Ponyville where trying to make it. Thus none of the Alicorns would have showed up anyways. (I don't think twilight was a alicorn at that point right?" 5: Maybe? I mean if they can catch normal pony sicknesses at all I would say yes. 6: We don't know.. but maybe Cadence?

Starlight's Mane Six (Elements 2.0)
blackstarraven replied to FlareGun45's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Well Twilight is kind of a leader... She not the Princess of Ponyville for instance. And as a point. She's a Leader NOW. She was not when she started. - as for spike. Oh no I agree he does need more 'spike time' but that being said. My point was more that Spike is his own role in the group. That I feel a 2nd group would actually need. And you kind of hit the nail on the head with Priorities. This is the reason I think that Thorax is a bad pick. Because his Priority should be the changelings. not a group of friends. - And ya, we all have our own ideals and likes/dislikes. But I'm more coming at it from the direction of. "Some things make a group work, and some things make a group not work" -The thing about Twilights friends is that I don't think they would be a 'friend unit' if it was not for Twilight being in the middle. I really don't feel like Starlight has that going on with a group of friends yet. I mean heck, as of right now I would argue that Discord is more Trixies friend then Starlights. - I was just saying. I don't thin there IS a 2nd mane cast worth of connections with starlight yet.- 6 replies

S02:E01+E02 - Return of Harmony
blackstarraven replied to Ra1nbowCrasH's topic in Season 2 Discussion
Hmmmmm... I.. ~Ducks~ Tought it was O.K... Like 4 out of 5 for a ponies episode. (Which is like a 9 out of 10 for a normal cartoon) I get that every one likes this set of episodes. But I just think its good. not great. But I think this episode just comes down to Discord. And the fact of the matter is, Discord like Q... Is just not that interesting a bad guy. He's a GREAT Anti-Villain/Anti-Hero. And to that end I like Discord later more then at the start. even when he kind of messes up later I still enjoy it. Becuase "BHAHAAHAH! I'M ALL CHAOTIC AND WHAT NOT YO!" Is... really lame..... The same thing goes with bad guys like the Joker. They are fantastic when you give them just a little bit of depth, that make you think "I wonder why they are doing this." But they are just lame when you just have them be out there like a force of nature..... Hurricanes are not interesting characters.... People with the force of will of a Hurricane are. And that is a very hard to manage difference. ___________________ Now all that being stated.... There are a few things I do love about this episode. #1: Twilight dealing with her grey friends is pretty funny. #2: Fluttershy making discord mad without meaning to is funny. #3: Spike is great. #4: The bit with the rock and rarity is great. and... that's about it. Other then that its a solid episode, its just not great for me. Because. #1: Most of the grey ponies.. are not interesting at all. RainbowDash/AJ/Pinkie are just kind of meh as grey characters. Actually none of them where funny/Interesting. They where just funny when interacting with twilight. #2: Discord man... I mean just.. what? I get that people like bad guys. (I love a good villian) But there is a difference between enjoying the dynamic that a bad guy brings and actually liking the bad guy. Its like people who enjoy the joker as a bad guy (Me) And then people who try to make the character more then they are. No. Discord is basically just a comic book villian. He's not really all that likable in this 2 parter. He's actually more of the more evil bad guys we get... #3: Stupid... Just stupid. My 9 year old Niece looked at him while watching this the first time as Discord was about to get blasted and was like "Is he that stupid?" And I was like. "yes.. Because there is no deep thinking going on inside that mind." I mean think about it. _________________________________________ Nightmare Moon: Actually a pretty tragic character, with a lot of think about with the entire narrative. Discord: Meh. A "Force of nature" Bad guy.. More or less center of the pack. He does what he does because he enjoys it. This actually makes him one of (If not) the cruelest bad guy on the list. But also... kind of the dumbest one. Discord is a child with a magnifying glass. He's to ignorant of how things work to actually consider that the ants are living creatures and that what he is doing is evil. - That makes him scary in a way. But not really interesting. Sombra: Even more a blank evil thing then Discord. To the point of being such a weak bad guy that they would have been better off just making him literally a giant mindless evil cloud. T-rex: (I don't even remember how you say it) - Like Sombra, only with more of a personality. but still basically just "I WANT POWA!" Boarding, the only reason that Discord is better is because you have John Delancey behind Discord. Cheese legs: Actually way more interesting then most of the others. (Up there with Luna/Nightmare moon) Because they are actually building her into a kind of shakespearian bad guy. ______________ In closing. Discord is the Joker. Only interesting if the person playing him is. (Which john delancey is) -
Starlight's Mane Six (Elements 2.0)
blackstarraven replied to FlareGun45's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think its a bad ideal to actually try to connect them to elements in that way. I think it would be better to just say "The new main six" But let's also understand that main six is not the main six. Its actually the main seven. Spike has always been part of the dynamic. And should also be. Thus the ideal of spike being part of starlight group is a bad ideal. so... - Starlight Glimmmer. (Twilight) Trixie. (Maybe there version of Rarity?) Cheese Sandwich.... (Pinkie) - Discord. (There version of spike I feel) Thorax. (Kind of there version of Cadence I feel?) - I don't know that there are that many other options open to them. I think you would need to build the rest of the group. but... - Maybe Gilda. (I don't like this ideal, but I don't like the ideal to start with) _____________ Thorax is a bad ideal. Because he's a leader. That would be like Cadence becoming a main cast member.. she kind of has stuff to do. But over all I think if they wanted to do this, they would more or less have to build a second cast of six... Also: Princess Baconhair.... But like.. The human world baconhair, only thrown into the pony world... I want that.- 6 replies
