Seeing stuff in stores...

Well I was at Target a couple days ago and was looking in the dollar section (they sometimes have good folder things and containers) and I saw Applejack coloring books. *EDIT: (I'm not sure if this was clear but I wasn't looking for MLP stuff at the time lol.)

I was like...

 

I think Applejack looks like an idiot on it lol.

 

Is it just me or does the marketing department seem to be on a different page than the show? The characters always seem to look "stupefied" on merchandise. It doesn't make me mad- I think it's kinda funny because it's so dumb. However, I'm sure it's scared more than a few people away from even giving the show a try.

 

What do you guys think of the official merchandise/marketing and how it compares to the show?

Eh, I kind of get used to it. I just go, "The official merchandise doesn't match the show at all." I've seen merch that's just recolors of other characters. So yeah, I would get fan made merch but that stuff's expensive.

I have a love/hate relationship with the official merchandise. It is absolutely essential that it continues to sell and sell well for FiM to be an ongoing series on the HUB. That has to be stated. Outside of the licensee's like Funko, WeLoveFine, 4DE, etc ... I think that the quality leaves something to be desired.

I'm fairly incapable of thinking Rarity looks stupid, and finding merch of her can be a task at times, so I just throw my money at whatever I can find of my purple and pearl goddess

I will say, though, that in my opinion they only look somewhat poorly done on the packaging. If it bothers you that much, I think you should just look into getting an Aurora plushie of your best pony and holding onto that tightly, since they're (usually) well done and inexpensive

Or, better yet, wait until the big batch of 4DE plushies gets released - those are the best pony plushies money can buy Show accurate and inexpensive. Or there's the funko figures which I've seen at Toys 'R' Us before, too

So yeahh - you're better off going for licensed merch over the internet rather than what Hasbro puts out if that's the route you want to take

But yes, a lot of the official merch uses the same, subpar, stock footage pics EVERYTIME, I must admit I've seen more than a few things I've passed on because of that...

Not the brushables though... I love my official Hasbro 3" brushables from the "pink aisle of doom," and I don't care what anypony thNks about that!

It's hit and miss.  I've found some super fantastic pony plushes.  Can you believe I even found them as BEANIE BABIES?? And they were the most show accurate I've ever seen.  And I got some notebooks of Twilight and Rainbow Dash, but they're like super scene and rainbowfied.  They are really beautiful.

 

And of course, I've seen some atrocious monstrosities of pony merchandise.

I see some good stuff in stores, but it's usually low quality crap. My Wal-Mart is selling a lot of collectible stuff, like Funko Vinyl figures,and trading cards.

I like most of the merchandise. Especially the figurines. I just learned not to buy any merch from Wal-Mart. I got a T-shirt from there and when I got home, I realized that they spelled Pinkie Pie wrong. They spelled it Pinky Pie. Another time, I got a MLP blanket from there and it all the mane six on it except for Apple Jack.

Actually, I think AJ looks fine on that coloring book cover, but I do know exactly what you mean.  There's a lotta poor quality crap out there.  There's this line of plushies, idk what brand--omg they are so terrible.  Twilight's coat is way too dark, about the color of the Joker's coat, and all of their manes are identical, of course.  But the worst part is that AJ has no hat.  Would you make a Superman action figure with no cape?  Would you make a Wolverine action figure with no claws?  Would you make an Indiana Jones action figure with no whip and fedora?  No excuse.

 

And you wanna talk about AJ looking like an idiot, take a look at THIS:

 

 

 

I mean, what in the hell is going on there??!!  Is it just me, or does she look really screwed up?  Is she suppose to be the new Derpy?  And this is the menu screen from the Season 3, disc 2 DVD.  I mean, holy crap dude.  Lol.  She's always fine in the show, and that's what counts, but this menu...omg.

 

And as for that face on the coloring book cover, check this out.

90% of Hasbro's merch tend to have the same handful of vectors/images used for everything. Season 4 is over and they're still using images of Unicorn Twilight on some merch.

 

But I don't let that stop me from buying merch of my beloved yellow pink squee. I'll buy pretty much any merch with her on it. Aside from the creepy EQ dolls....I'll stick to ponies.

 

I'm stoked for the 4DE Fluttershy coming out this fall. I plan on pre-ordering her soon.

Either way, I feel that the pony collectibles look different than in the show, it might be just me but it makes me feel uncomfortable.

 

By the way, all those 4DE plushies and other high-quality collectibles are not available in the UK. The only place I can get official merchandise is the Hasbro store and they just don't look convincing....

@:flutterdash: sorry to burst your bubble but there will be no fluttershy this fall, rumors rumors rumors. If I am wrong, I will send you one free of charge. I have been harassing my sales rep for weeks now about the new 4DE plushes and they haven't heard anything. They have stuff pre-ordering into march of 2015 already and if there are any announcements coming, they won't say anything specific, but will at least let us know an announcement is coming.
