spoiler Will Season 5 be the season they try way too hard?

With the official release date confirmed, I'm actually starting to worry that this season might end up trying way too hard to be awesome/epic/appeal to older viewers and end up coming nowhere near to the amount of hype.

 

Take the series of teasers for each Mane 6 for example.  Those things are basically hype incarnate, and are setting up this season in particular to have a much different tone than before. The opener (which I have no doubt will be a two-parter) already feels like a much different beast entirely than any two-parter before it, maybe even A Canterlot Wedding and Twilight's Kingdom. 

 

Then there's the 100th episode, which (no spoilers) is basically "Fanservice: The Episode". Delving into fan theories has always been a touchy prospect, and based on some of the teased information about this episode, this could either be really good or phenomenally bad with next to no middle ground in sight.

 

I doubt know, am I just overthinking this or is anyone else as worried as I am?

I tend to see it as more of expanding it's audience. From the looks of how they talk about the premiere, it looks like it will subtly deal with the subject of communism, which is a rather mature subject. And hey, it looks like it still will have the theme of friendship.

 

The 100th episode, yeah I can agree that is trying too hard. Having adult references is one thing, but having references like that is going a bit overboard.

Eh, in all honesty, season 4 was the season they tried way too hard, with all their gimmicks which they added into episodes under the belief that "Teh bronies will like dis!" 

 

I honestly don't think season 5 can make it much worse.

I think 'try too hard' sounds like one of silly criticisms used by the kind of people that declare everything edgy.

 

I most certainly don't want them make the show boring. So, they may have to do these 'try too hard' things. I would love if this show became as insane as Futurama.... Oh, a man can dream. A man, can dream.

Eh, to me the opener doesn't seem too different from the others, I'm looking forward to it though, I just hope that the whole season doesn't try to focus on being "epic" or whatever, I like my simple episodes

 

I definitely agree on the 100th episode though. Honestly I'm considering skipping it all together

We have no idea what the other 23 episodes are going to be about, so it's a bit early to tell.

I think the 100th episode will be an exception, other than that I don't think they'll "try too hard", ...for instance look at how simple Starlight Glimmer looks like.

WEll tdepend, i havn't really looked into season 5 cause i wnat t go in blind. But if the show tires to reach out to older audicne, teens i'm assuming then i should be fien. But yeah how do you top tirek without jumping the shark.

I'm going to say what I learned from season 4. I'll wait before I make a judgement. But from what I've seen from the teaser, it looks like the opener may have a very heavy handed approach to a subject, but it looks like it is going to be interesting.

 

My point is: we don't know yet. Everything is speculation.

Yeah I understand the feeling given the hard focus on the premier and the overhype of episode 100 but

 

 

The Smooze episode has me feeling a bit more optimistic

 

 

Personally I think the trailers are doing a bad job by being so epic (when I doubt it will really be so) and giving everyone false expectations for the season but we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the Season 5 opener is too gimmicky, I think it's supposed to tell a message that not everyone has to be the same and can have differences. Like you can be friends with someone with a different personality.

I can see where your concern is, and we know they are capable of botching stuff that is meant to be catering to bronies (the first equestria girls comes to mind). HOWEVER If Rainbow Rocks and these trailers are hints to anything, I say they are more than capable of pulling out some of the best episodes to date. They seem to be upping their game quite a bit and I'm really excited to see what they pull off. 

 

In fact, from the way they looked in the most recent vid, they seem as excited for this season as we are, maybe even more so!

I may be the only person in the entire fandom to say that I don't think I'll really like the idea of Smooze that much. As for the rest of season 5, I'd rather do what I always like to do when there are trailers out for some form of visual media and just wait until it finally comes out...

I rather want them to try and fail at it, instead of them not trying and always do the same boring routine.

 

This season has the potential to do something fresh and new and i think this show needs it. I am very hyped for the new season and from the trailers, i would say that the premiere has the potential to be a better premiere then Return of Harmony.
