Change something about an episode your dislike to make it good

Tell us about an episode you dislike, and a slight change that would have made it better.

The main reason why I disliked "Dragon Quest" was because of how it was the perfect opportunity to reveal some of Spike's backstory, and we got literally nothing. Making it so we meet Spike's parents would have raised it to "OK" instead of "awful".

Another episode I hate is "Tanks For The Memories". It's a shame, because the episode was ALMOST an amazing one, but they ruined it by making Rainbow Dash get away with all the awful things she did, with no consequences at all. I'd change it so that at some point she confesses to being behind the explosion, and the episode would end with her flying off to help rebuild Cloudsdale after "burying" Tank.

Well, I'm not a fan of dwelling on what an episode could've been instead of what it is since I believe that ruins your enjoyment on any episode. That's probably why I don't even hate a whole lot of episodes, but I digress.

How would I change Baby Cakes? Make it a whole lot less of a torture porn. Also don't have that little continuity breaking moment at the end. That was pointless.

Oh, and for Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, cut out the unfunny gag of Dash not getting any cider. Oh, and instead of having Applejack writing to Celestia saying that she "didn't learn anything" have maybe the Fim Flam brothers say they learned their lesson or someone else besides Applejack who already knew the moral. The moral is left kind of undermined when you turn the telling of it into a joke.

Change or cut out the part in Mare Do Well when it shows the remane 5 bragging about their accomplishments as Mare Do Well in front of Dash's face. That scene defeats the entire purpose of that episode

Or even great if he had spent the episode with them.

Magical Mystery Cure: Make it a 2-parts episode because the ending was too rushed. Or remove the Alicornification.

I think that Twilight's ascension had enough build-up to it, and it wasn't bad in itself, so I wouldn't want it removed, but I do agree that making "Magical Mystery Cure" a two-parter would make it a much better episode.

While i don't necessarily dislike Three's a crowd, i think the episode would've been better if Cadence was staying home and instead Shining Armor would've spend time with Twilight.

Since i saw him in Canterlot Wedding, i wait for the day that Shiny and Twily spend some quality time together.

I believe the episode was called "Power Ponies". If not, forgive me, my memory is failing me! I know that My Little Pony is a show for children as well, but man, was that episode so...un-dark (how technical of a term!) and anti-climatic for an episode revolving around an alternate universe which contains superheroes. Even the ponies themselves...their powers, in my opinion, were a sort of...let down.

If I were in charge of that episode, I would have made the Power Ponies and Mane-Iac more...cool, and I would have made things more climatic and...a bit more dark!

One Bad Apple: Don't let Babs Seed off the hook. Have Applejack punish Babs for her bad behavior or have Babs try to make it up to the CMC's in some way.

Flight to the Finish: Have it that Scootaloo's conflict is entirely internal. The Cutie Mark Crusaders' struggle to come up with a routine much like in The Show Stoppers. Rainbow Dash stops by to check up on them and tells them to keep trying. Scootaloo sees Rainbow Dash's aerial acrobatics and decides to try some of her own; unfortunately, she's unable to do them and ends up hurting herself. It is at this point that Scootaloo begins to feel depressed. Di and Silver's presence was entirely unnecessary and they were needlessly cruel, if not downright OOC.

Filly Vanilli is a great episode but the scene Pinkie makes Fluttershy cry ruined it. This scene should be replaced or toned down.

Agreed. Pinkie was really out of character in that episode.

Make Friends but Keep Discord - Fluttershy's attitude towards Discord, she should have known that something is not right. I know that the whole point was that Discord had to realize the hismisunderstood situation, but Fluttershy was just out of her character.

For "Games Ponies Play", give Rainbow Dash's plotline more focus rather than on that cliche setup with the mistaken identity. After all, that's where the moral came from. With the comedic plotline in the foreground, the episode was all style and little substance.

In "Equestria Games", do not make Spike look like an idiot! That problem was rampant in Season 4, and magnified so much considering the hype behind the episode. I would have been fine with it as a Spike episode had he not been relegated to thinking he can set fires with his mind and then rushing into the spotlight without so much as a second thought. Spike is a bit immature and is self-conscious on a different level than the older mane cast, but he was not such an insufferable idiot or clumsy, unlucky oaf on that level that he was in Season 4. Being at the Equestria Games, there was plenty of room for other plot elements to fill the time than Spike just being an idiot. Also, having him save the Crystal Empire a second time came off as too convenient to be believable by any stretch. No one needs another "save the world" moment to boost their self-confidence. They just need support from their friends to help find faith in themselves. Also, their friends should help the person actively become a part of something without doing everything for them (illustrated in Twilight's fire trick backfiring, no pun intended). I say this from experience. The contrived plot element distracts from this great moral and is part of why I consider the Crystal Empire bad luck for morals, in that we've had three episodes set there, all with great morals, but dubious execution.

Among the many gripes I have with "Trade Ya!", the number one I have is the completely biased portrayal of Twilight's decision to keep her books on nostalgic value rather than potential utility and fulfillment out of selling them to potential future students. It comes off as self-centered and even more negative when combined with the portrayal of Pinkie Pie as completely frenetic and scaring customers away. The icing on top of this is that the validity of the opposing argument is never considered. Twilight wants to give the books away -> Pinkie acts like a jerk -> Twilight is convinced she shouldn't give the books away. It comes off as an extremely desperate last-ditch effort to generate force an emotional connection to the destruction of Twilight's library in the season finale. A more fulfilling conclusion would have been for Twilight to give her books away and tell off Pinkie for scaring away her customers, while acknowledging Pinkie's points as valid. If there had been an opposing argument considered at the very least, it wouldn't have come off as bad, but this to me continues to be one of the worst scenes in the entire show, IMO.

Best Night Ever was one of my least favorite episodes. There was one main reason. Fluttershy was out of character. A lot of people really like angry Fluttershy, but I saw this as degrading and detrimental to the character. She does get angry (as in Dragonshy, one of my favorite episodes), but only for the sake of her friends. It's never selfish anger. In addition, her personality is one that animals naturally love. Unlike with other ponies, there was no reason for the animals to fear her.

So, the change I would have is making the issues not dependant on Fluttershy's failure, and having her reaction be more like her. With the other ponies, there was nothing they could have done to fix the situation. It wasn't that their talent failed, or that they weren't good enough, it was that they had unrealistic expectations. But Fluttershy didn't. At least, not how things are now. So I would have the party guests being in the garden as well- something that she hadn't accounted for. Every time the animals get near her, some other party guests come along and scare the animals away. Eventually, rather than going into a selfish temper tantrum, she walks away, dejected, trying to find her friends, because there's nothing she can do. Of course, the animals would follow her, also trying to get away from the other party guests, and, being spooked by the other guests, would still rampage through the hall.

Another one of my least favorite episodes is The Last Roundup. In this episode, AppleJack goes directly against her element of harmony multiple times. Yes, I'm aware that the mane six do this fairly frequently. Yes, I'm aware that they're not supposed to be perfect. But they are supposed to be perfect in this one, very specific area, barring special circumstances. They represent the element. Not, they use that element's quality more than most, they represent it.

So the change I would have is AppleJack being more close-lipped. Rather than telling them that she was tired of apples, that there was nothing more to it, that she would tell them at breakfast (which she didn't, and thus, lied, even if she said she didn't), I would have her not say anything about it. Either tell them that she didn't want to talk about it, or change the subject, or just downright ignore them. Plenty of room for imperfection without going against her element.

A Friend in Deed. Cranky Doodle tells Pinkie Pie he wants to be left alone. Pinkie Pie understands and says she'll leave him alone to wallow in woes. Then proceeds to go back to singing the Smile song for the rest of the episode while Cranky Doodle never appears on the show again.

Magical Mystery Cure: make Applejack the princess of Apples (Alicorn)

Then in season 5, make all of the mane 6 Alicorns! then toys!

Magic Duel, arguably my least favorite episode.  Firstly thing I'd get rid of is the dependence on Twilight, having Rarity be the one to beat Trixie, in a similar way (cause Celestia knows Rarity could have used an episode in Season 3)  and secondly, I'd either make it more serious to fit in with the coloring and visual tone of the episode or lose the coloring and totalitarian imagery and make Trixie balls to the wall crazy.

Rainbow Fall: the main problem of that episode is how they portray Splitfire as villain. They just need to make Splitfire a sympathic leader who want their hometown win not some typical competitive assholes.

I think DT and Silver's presence is needed to move the plot forward (just like they always do), DT in my head always a spoiled filly without any remorse (hell, in Ponyville Confidental, she even said she didnt care about feelings ;) ) so this ep portrayed her exactly what I expected from her... The only one problem in this ep..... maybe some punishment for DT ;)

Inspiration Manifestation: They need to make Rarity aware what she did not to be totally controlled by the book (like enhancing her creative to extreme but not control her) so that Rarity can face her mistakes and learn (cuz the only one learned in that episode is Spike not Rarity)

Not particularly. That interaction between them and the CMC was forced, and did nothing for the episode except draw unnecessary attention to itself. If it had been Scootaloo struggling with her own insecurities from the start, it would have meant more, flowed better, saved more time in episode, and may have actually given us a deep look at her character, something we hardly get for the CMC. That entire scene was not only pointless, it held us back.

...Speaking of DT and SS, one change i'd make is to remove them entirely from the events of Twilight Time. Once again, they're unimportant to the story and could be removed entirely without changing it. Not only that, though, it's actually OOC for Diamond Tiara. Throughout her entire arc, one of her main defining traits is her absolute hatred of the CMC, to the point where she goes out of her way and endures multiple punishments just for the chance to get under their skin.

...And then she just drops it all because Princesses, which makes no sense for so many reasons. Even for her already tragically stretched character, it was so bad that ir made me cringe every time I saw it.

I agree your point about DT's presence just to force the plot moving but I'm fine with it ;), Flight to Finish still my best episode of ss4 :). Hope this issue didnt stop you from enjoy it ;)

...uh... are you DT fan? *running away*

Not really an episode, but EQG1. Bring us a consistent story that we liked in MLP, and don't use background characters as main characters and plot devices at the same time.
