Things that used to scare you as a kid.

My list of childhood fears goes on forever honestly. I was afraid of a lot as a kid. Darkness, Big Bird, Barney, Santa, that Face thing on Nick Jr.. Certain clowns. Embarrassing fears at the least. I remember having nightmares of Big Bird and Barney flushing my head down a toilet.. o.o

When I was little I hallucinated a lot :P

I saw demons swimming in the skies and jet black wolves made of shadows, and sometimes I'd look at a wall and see something else... I had a reputation for walking into walls back then  ^_^  I'd walk into a room and see someone I didn't know sitting on the couch or bed, then I'd blink and they'd be gone. Walking up and down the hallway was always terrifying to me   I'd often see monsters charging me or little things running around on the floor and following me wherever I went. Some mornings I called mom to come and pick me out of bed and carry me to the living room because of the monsters hiding under the furniture where I couldn't see them. If they saw my feet touch the ground, they would've jumped out and eaten me!  :yay:  My hallucinations always got ten times worse in the dark, so I was also really scared of that. Nowadays I love dark places, and I always go out at night :P and when I do hallucinate, which is just in the dark now, I rather enjoy it.  :proud:

I will admit for me personally, this is why I was afraid of the dark. If I would stare long enough, I would see objects move. I would see monsters coming towards me or people that were not really there. I thought I was the only one!

My closet at night. For some context, my closet was a deep walk-in which spanned for about 2-4 meters ending directly behind my bed. To me, I could imagine someone hiding under the blankets and such thrown about in there sleeping, or worse, jumping out and going "boo!" or sitting in the chair creepily by my bedside. I will admit I've had those nightmares when I was young.

Also as dumb as this might sound, Luigi's Mansion genuinely scared me as a kid until I manned up 4 years later. I really didn't like ghosts back then and it scared me to see Luigi scared if that makes any sense.

I was afraid of the dark and ghosts especially. There was a stretch when I was like 10 where I was paranoid of that stuff, even when it was the middle of the day. It was a legit phobia man. Still kinda get creeped out when I hear noises when I'm alone at home. That's why I sleep with a good old retired MLB baseball bat by my bedside. And I have two different windows I can run out of just in case :D

...........

Maybe I'm not over this stuff yet :(

Fans.

Like ceiling fans, fans you stand on the ground, ect.

They all scared me, up until 6th grade I thought they were alive and wanted to suck me into another dimension.

They probably do you know.

I remember thinking Voldemort was in my room (was really just my clothes on a rack) and I tried to remain as still as possible but was obviously not going to sleep. So the game began, I got into about 2 hours before I said 'screw this' and got up, ready to be Avada Kedavra'd

To each their own

I had a wild imagination as a kid so even something as tame as the old Goosbumps live show could scare me.

The above post clearly was meant to offend, and if you feel insulted by it, please use the 'close browser' button and discuss it with someone who knows not to take the internet too seriously.

The darkness and robot dragons (the giant dragon inside the cave below the castle in Disneyland resort Paris. I then figured later out that the light in the mouth of the dragon had been a light bulb :P

I used to be terrified of mannequins, to the extent that I'd avoid clothing shops.

Then I realised they were merely plastic :P

  • 2 weeks later...

As a kid I was afraid of sharp objects, especially knives. I think it was because I saw an ad for some horror movie on TV and it featured a bloody knife XD

I also had an aversion to robots. I wasn't really scared of them, but oh boy did I hate them.

When I was young, I was afraid of the dark.

I still am!

I had a fear of the dark when I was young. I was also afraid of scary movies...still am actually. But the one thing, that still bothers me...the "My Buddy" doll. It looks EXACTLY like Chucky from Child's Play. /shudder It still bothers me to this day, and I can't go near the dang things. :sunny:

Hey look here...beavers! You better hide your wives, hide your husbands, and look here, both of you, hide your kids, cause we're coming!

Dolls... Porcelain dolls specially... I'm still afraid of them tbh. And my mom owns one and puts them in the hallway on a shelf D: so I have to see her every time I go to my room D:

Also Chucky, but not anymore.

Aaaaand the Quaker guy... He looks like a rapist o.ó

Oh yeah... In one of the rooms of my house growing up, we had this porcelain clown doll on a shelf.

Take that in for a minute. Porcelain doll + clown. Now, I myself was never scared of clowns, but this doll had a child-like shape to its face.. All this combined made me a little scared of it as a kid. There it sat, dressed in its clownish clothes, in a little wicker seat.

Lol when I read "porcelain clown" I just thought WHO BUYS THAT?!

And totally, I'm not scared of clowns either but I just... don't trust them... Gosh that porcelain clown seems to be as creepy as having no internet conection. D:

Oh yeah, I think it might have had hair too... A short little blond haircut under its clown hat. Not painted on, either. Actual fake hair. (not 100% if the hair actually existed or my memory's making things up).

Really shiny black dogs, any dogs that colour scared me to death when I was young. There was this black dog who would chase anyone who passes by and I had to climb my mom's head just to be safe. Sadly, the trauma goes on til this day

Those damned Gushers commercials from the 90s!

They did nothing but make me want to avoid Gushers. That's kinda the opposite of good marketing, don't you think?  :unamused:

Also, when I was 10-11, I was really scared of the song "In the Hall of the Mountain King."

I first heard it in music class, and my teacher told us that it was about a man who was being followed by trolls that he can't see because he's in a dark cave, but he knows he's being followed because he hears their footsteps. As the music continues moving faster, it represents the man moving faster---he starts out walking, but then he eventually breaks out into a run as his fear increases, trying to get away from them.

So basically, every time I heard the song, I always imagined trolls following behind me. It made me feel really uncomfortable.  :sunny:
