spoiler Next Season might be about the "Guardians Of Harmony"

Possible, though it's getting doggone close to making Spike more like a Digimon instead of a plain old dragon. (Not that I have a problem with that - I loved the first two seasons of Digimon)

What has me depressed is Spike doesn't have any wings, and adult Spike should -always- have wings IMO, because I want him to be able to fly his friends around someday. Though if I follow through with the Digimon analogy, I suppose Spike might have different forms depending on how he powers up...

I'm okay with it. Spike hasn't really expressed any desire to have wings and he seems quite a bit more "magic" than the other dragons we've seen. I have a feeling he's kind of the Dragon equivalent of a "Unicorn", as in a magic centered dragon instead of a flying one.

We'll see as the show progresses :D

If we are going to take this kind of theme, I bet Rarity will be some kind of "Princess that has to be saved" rather than a fighter.

I don't know she know's kung fu and could take care of herself against the changelings. I'd think Fluttershy is more of a damsel.

This looks like a downright awful direction to take the show.

A more action-oriented show just for the sake of appealing to boys? Casting the themes of friendship aside to have more out-of-place and blatantly unnecessary grimdark moments? Even more tropes of "Twilight: Warrior Princess" so that she can continue to have epic battles while her friends remain borderline useless?

Uhhh, yeah, no thanks.  :okiedokielokie:

And if this is what the movie will be about, then I have officially lost all interest in it.

Did you see the way she gives Massages?

The Damsel ladies and gentlemen lol

I don't think any of the mane six would be Damsels actually, they all could pull their weight in a fight given the right motivation. Hell Pinkie could punch through rocks if she set her mind to it if the season 5 finale is any indicator.

I am okay if they want to put these kinds of things into the movie if they want to end the saga, with a literal bang.

But when it comes to the show, i probably would not be thrilled and it would look like that the writers are trying way too hard to appeal to a demographic, that is pretty much in the minor.

This is a slice of life show and i would like it if it would stay that way, instead of just being every other action oriented animated show that is out there.

Well the toys certainly look impressive and very cool, I'll say that much.

Now as to how they'll affect the show is where I'm a bit weary.  Personally I'm expecting them to either be a more realized Power Ponies type deal or something akin to the Grand Galloping Gala/Rainbow Power/Cutie Map ie a plot tread that pops in every once in a while.(Also that way you can still do the whole Explore Equestria thing with the rest of the season)  My big concern is with how they're going to be integrated with the more SoL type stories MLP is more well known for. One of my problems with the two-parters as of late is that they seem very disconnected with the middle SoL type stories in the season and generally lack consequences outside of the one plot McGuffin handed out at the very end and trying to have this epic action based story right next to a SoL story and giving both equal dramatic tension and weight is tricky to pull off to say the least.  On one hand, it makes the SoL seem pointless, I mean how is you being sad about your turtle hibernating equivalent to trying to protect the time line? And on the other it makes it seem like the show is forgoing morals and character focus in favor of big loud actions and spectical instead which is just shallow to say the least.  So yeah oddball of an announcement here for me, we'll see how it plays out.

This might be nothing. Unlike Rainbow Power in season 4, Cutie Mark Magic didn't even actually show up in season 5.

Seriously?  Despite the season opener, the Cutie Map arc of episodes, Raiders of the Lost Mark and the season finale all focusing on Cutie Marks?

I would say that season five was pretty darn heavy on cutie mark magic.

What i meant was, it didn't show up in the way the commercials depicted. The commercials depicted Cutie Mark Magic as being like a Rainbow Power-style power up, and it didn't end up that way in the finale.

I thought the theme was Explore Equestria.

It is, or, it likely will be. Guardians of Harmony is only confirmed for the comics right now, but I could easily see it becoming the basis for season 7, or this could even be a "Gen4.5" reboot after the movie premieres in 2017.

The figures are really awesome!

I hope that if the whole guardians of harmony theme would go with the 2017 movie.

It would make sense for it as it would have the show go out with a bang or something.

None of this indicates that season 6 is going to be about the Guardians of Harmony, or at least not it specifically. It said that the toyline will tie in with scenes that came from the show. Stuff like Celestia vs. NMM (Princess Twilight Sparkle) or fighting Chrysalis (A Canterlot Wedding and Cutie Remark) was already done in previous episodes of the show. And the article also said that in the fall there will be a new comic series that ties into this toyline.

Is this real? FIM toys that might actually have quality in it?

*ahem* All joking aside, this looks really cool. I don't know what it leads to once S6 comes in a few months. Is it part of an extensive theme, a one-time deal in an episode, toyline-only, whichever? I don't know. FIM is predominantly SoL, but they have upped the adventure and action since A Canterlot Wedding with varying script quality. We'll have to wait and see.

Honestly, this kind of makes sense.  We've seen that every other Princess has armor of some sort (usually golden hooves and some sort of necklace/chestpiece).  So it isn't at all that strange or out of the question that Twilight could conceivably don similar gear during Season 6 or the movie (hell, even the rest of the mane six could conceivably get armor, since they're basically her knights, and we've already seen soldiers in Equestria with armor on).

My biggest fear is that this might be some one-off thing that they do to defeat one villain, and then we never see it again.  This is kind of a fundamental change that shouldn't be so easily hand-waved aside after its initial appearance, since Princesses DO wear armor in Equestria.

I will say though, that I understand some peoples' skepticism as to whether this is just a toy line, or if it'll show up in the show.  It very well might not.

HOWEVER, know this.  Historically, movies based on existing Hasbro cartoons have almost always introduced some kind of major status quo change (usually to sell toys).  In other words, expect something to happen that causes a fundamental shift in the show (I mean this as a warning; this has happened in nearly every movie based on a Hasbro franchise).

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2016/02/10/my-little-pony-guardians-of-harmony-exclusive/80103638/

So it was revealed awhile ago that Hasbro trademarked the phrase "Guardians of Harmony", and now their new toyline is running with that very name. From what little I've seen of it, it seems to have an emphasis on military themes, including Shining Armor riding a notably larger spike and both clad in armor.

sig-4371419.635906658846886888-B6012AS00

And it also shows Twilight Sparkle fighting a changeling with what looks like some kind of Saddle mounted weaponry

sig-4371419.635906658840802849-MLP-Guard

Since the last line of toys talked about Cutie Mark Magic and that led to an entire season revolving around cutie marks in one way or another, I'm thinking this upcoming season is going to be about this "Guardians of Harmony" concept. More specifically, I think the wars we saw in the season 5 finale's alternate universes might be a precurser to some events that are going to happen in this season. Weaponry for the ponies would sell toys too, cause I mean look at them they are freaking awesome

What do you think about this? Do you think this next season will be "Guardians of Harmony" focused considering this information? Does that mean we'll see our Princess Twilight Sparkle leading soldiers to battle equipped with saddle mounted weaponry like shown above? Will it be season long or just a season Premier/Finale event?

Nope  , it would be silly to change the usual Slice of Life theme to action all of a sudden, besides, Traveling Equestria has been revealed to be the TRUE theme of S6. Guardians of Harmony will get it's own series of comics by our IDW friends though  :nom:

One thing that has me concerned is the price tags for these things. Spike's toy, ALONE clocks in at 40.00. That's a lot of cash to be dropping for a single action figure, yeah? I mean, its cool that he can shoot fireballs according to the article's description, but still. And the other toys sound to be pretty pricey too.

I want this line to succeed, but at the same time I worry that its a big financial risk.

Historically that always failed horribly though :P
Transformers and GI joe both bombed hardcore when they did that, and they haven't tried to do a theatrical movie based on an existing cartoon since, outside of Equestria girls, which wasn't really a "true" theatrical movie really.

So its highly possible they've learned from their mistakes in the 80s.

If its tied in to the movie, they wouldn't need to change the normal Show formula; the movie will most likely be the same formula as the premiers and Finales, and those turn into Big action type Scenarios, yeah?

My only Real worry is that the armor on Twilight and Chryssy looks kind of goofy.

Like Twilight has giant salad tongs for weapons :P

I'm kind of thinking that the comic line will end up being a prequel of stories to the movie to get interest drummed up.

That might be true, but I don't expect to see such extreme things like Big Spike being ridden by Shining Armor, maybe an armor and a couple of weapons or so, as I think the GoH comics will be it's own universe

Wow, this looks like it's heading towards a MLP version of LotR. If this is seriously going to be a thing in the show, and not just in the toyline, it will be awesome. Still, I hope they won't overdo it. Part of the charm of MLP is its lighthearted and cutesy nature. While I'm definitely a fan of huge and epic battles, I seriously question whether MLP is the franchise for that kind of stuff.
