In what way are ponies superior to humanity, exactly? Much of what is shown in FiM proves contrary to such claims.

They seem to maintain peace a hell of a lot better than humanity does, and physically speaking they have us beat in everything except for height advantage.

That being said, there is a lot less freedom in Equestrian culture and they don't have qualms with using magic to change your mind to conform to their beliefs, so there are certainly downsides to their way of life.

but they're petty and mean (Putting your hoofdown), they gossip (Ponyville cnfidential), judgmental to other species, war, force reform others with magic...

If the argument is purely Moral superiority, which it seems to be now that I'm looking over the original post, then I'd agree with you on the idea they aren't better than us.

However if we are talking about objective superiority, They'd thrash us purely on stats. If there were an alien race with their kind of abilities, they'd dominate our planet pretty easy, especially when they wouldn't even need to fight

The would just have to "reform us"

And if they did, I do think we'd have a more peaceful society for it, but we wouldn't be free. It really boils down to what you define as superiority.

Danm cartoon logic. You'd need cartoon humans from another universe to beat them.

It's possible that such a race would exist, but I personally don't think that's the case unless Earth is an exceptionally harsh planet. Every living thing on Earth fights and wants to propagate itself, with little regard to the rest of its species. It's  very nice that we believe ourselves to be civilized, but ultimately we can't live in peace simply because there will always be people who will not listen to reason and do whatever the hell they want, necessitating the use of violence to stop them.

Aside from that, moral superiority is easily perceived as condescending, so if the 'enlightened' ponies would try to teach us backwards humans the merits of harmony, many of us would fight them.

Ultimately, though, there is no way to tell whether or not such a world exists. Given there are theoretically around 10^500 universes in M-theory, there may well be one that contains talking ponies living in harmony...for the most part.

One reason why I think people like ponies so much is because they are models of perfection; they live a very simple, idealistic lifestyle that looks highly desirable in place of the complicated modern world we occupy now. The virtues that ponies in Equestria enjoy are similar to what humans want and aspire to have (and have always aspired to have), so it's no wonder why everyone wants to go there, or ponify themselves online, or just entertain the thought of a perfect, happy lifestyle. Equestria is a utopia, true in itself, but highly unlikely in our reality. Equestria is like Earth, idealized.

The point of fantasy, and situating oneself and one's interest to live out fantasy, is to come close to another reality and to enjoy the virtues of that reality, without fooling oneself into thinking such circumstances are real. Needless to say, it takes a certain awareness to know what is possible and what is not within the constraints of our reality, likely the only one we are to ever know.

The thing about 'merciless' aliens is not that they ar emerciless, its that they only propagate to another planet with their species in mind which implies a sort of compassion at least at some level. More asocial species wouldn't do that, so most species willing to do that would be pro-social and alot of progress was made for the team not for the individual as it requires alot of teamwork to produce. Likely an intelligent alien that decides to space travel would understand compassion.

Also humanity made mlp inspired tho by ponies but give humanity credit right. Besides if you stop to think about it equestria is pretty messed up.

Its definitely not a utopia look at trixie, the flimflam brothers and more. Snobby rich ponies too. Its like humanity if we were barely on top of the food-chain by a thread of magic. And you know industrialization is a thing because cities. And theres even more conflict if you count the comic. They should all really have ptsd.

*looks very sad*

Even if that were true...that doesn't make the M.I.C. species better.

Peacenik culture exists because after a while, some people grow tired of brutality, smoke, and greed.

Allow me to clarify:

When I refer to Equestria as a utopia, I am speaking to the fact that it is firstly a fictional place, and secondly guided by a morality that corrects all problems eventually. No, it is not a utopia in the strict definition of the word, but it is a place that has guiding principles and morals enforced by destiny. Ponies are "superior" (though I take objection to using this word specifically) to humanity because in Equestria there is an overaching philosophy that drives every action and event to its logical, moral conclusion, eliminating individual error and immorality that befalls humans.

It is a world commanded by good even when assailed by agents of destruction, chaos, or outright evil. Such a world was created to be aspirational, something that appeals to our idealistic nature, but is impossible without ultimate control by destiny, god, etc. Thus it is like a utopia because it is a more genuine and safer place than our own. It is true that because ponies resemble humanity they possess faults, fears, irrationality, and negative situations similar to what we might deal with, but, again, the distinction between ourselves and ponies is that, by virtue of Equestria being a moral, cartoon world, ponies will always return to a harmonious state of existence, snobby rich ponies, bitter, egotistic magicians, and industrialized communities notwithstanding.
