That's a toughie. Always was a fan of Ken Akamatsu's work (Love Hina, Negima, A.I. Love You) but I very much am enjoying Girls Bravo which I'm watching right now. Shuffle and Maburaho are amazing.

GRAH, I have such a hard time picking favorites, they are all so amazing!

Technically Green Green is a harem anime but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they are looking purely for fanservice because that's all the show is. Fanservice and softcore porn. It's even one of the few anime, next to Eiken and Chibi Vampire/Karin, that I actually DON'T particularly care for the Dub. All of the ones I just mentioned are either less than stellar (Karin has a lot of less than average voices but one or two really good ones) to downright terrible (Eiken and Green Green both)

In the case of Eiken the anime is a terrible effort and the manga is considerably better though it banks on the fanservice far more than it needs to. It uses every single cliche in the book and has very awkward artstyles thanks to using way too much fanservice but it's still WAY better than the two-part anime that was just...a wasted effort. It doesn't do the manga justice at all.

I love Ken Akamatsu's work too! It's amazing. A.I. Love You was one of my firsts manga. Oh the memories...actually I think it WAS my first manga!

I've seen Girls Bravo! I recently finished Shuffle! And I saw Maburaho after Girls Bravo. Girls Bravo was my 4th anime that I watched. I was like in 3rd or 4th grade at the time so you image what my reaction was to all of the fanservice :P

Hey, ever seen Ichigo 100%? Watch it. It's goood. Once of my favs.

I tried watching Eiken and I was like "Eeeeehhhhhh....no.sorry." it just didn't work for me so I didn't read the manga.

My favorite anime of all time ever is SCHOOL DAYS!!! :3

I haven't seen any anime other than Pokemon. So I don't know what is "good" anime. And most anime I heard about has this "mystical" crap in it. I just want a plain Funny anime. But I don't know any funny anime at all!

Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star

Both take place in real-world Japan with real-world problems and no super powers, mythical beasts or robots/aliens. Both highly funny, though Azumanga Daioh is more slapstick and Lucky Star is more situational.

Yes those are extremely funny but I have to say that my favorite is Nichijou. Watch Nichijou! Sooooo funny. One of my favs in Slice of Life anime. Azumanga Daioh is my second and Lucky Star is my third. Ya know it was sort of a surprise to me when I figured out that AD was a Yuri. Still funny nonetheless.

I totally forgot to mention Ranma 1/2. That is definitely one of the greatest harem anime ever.

I tend to root for the underdog in harem anime though, the ones that ALMOST have a chance with the main character but don't actually end up with him. This applies to other romantic comedies as well. Sayoko in Ah My Goddess (Yes, I know, why would I wish that on Keiichi? Because I can, duh) even though I love Belldandy, Setsuna in Negima, Motoko in Love Hina, that samurai girl in Maburaho, Shampoo for Ranma 1/2 (Everyone wants Ranma to end up with Shampoo though lmao), Kirie in Girls Bravo (though I haven't finished the series it's quite obvious that he'll end up with Miharu), the human girl in A.I. Love You...

I actually already knew who Rin ended up with in Shuffle so I didn't have anyone to root for. Of course, I totally expected the ending where all the girls are still striving for him despite picking

Asa

It's my thing, I don't know why.

I often don't know anime by their Japanese names so if there's an English name for something I remember it better with that so I don't know if I even know this Nichijou.

Haven't read Ichigo 100% but I've seen it all over. Now knowing it's a harem anime I am interested.

Harem anime: My one true anime weakness.

Yeah, I've always wanted to watch anime,(The only one I ever watched properly was the Pokemon anime) but there is just such a large selection, it makes it incredibly daunting trying to find out which one to start with.

Start anywhere you want and by process of elimination find out what you like and what you don't. That's really all there is too it. Genres in anime are often very different than they are in other types of media so even if you know you like action in games or movies you won't necessarily feel the same in anime.

Ooo yea Ranma 1/2 is really good!

You and I think a like. I don't root for the obvious one. Like in Mashiroiro Symphony (good harem you should watch it) I rooted for the maid for a while then red haired girl then purple haired girl. I switch sometimes. Only sometimes I root for the obvious. SOMETIMES.

I liked Shuffle because it wasn't that obvious for me but at the same time it was. Personally I wanted him to choose Nerine. Sia was just too...bubbly(aside from her inner self). I mean I like bubbly characters but she was a little too bubbly for my taste.

Nichijou is My Ordinary Life in English

Ichigo 100% is amazing! Also one of my first animes. It's a manga and anime. I watched the anime then finished it from the manga.

Harem anime is definitely my anime weakness. I just absolutely love it!

Shuffle spoilers

For a while there Sia almost looked like she was gonna be the one he picks but knowing who he ended up with really messed with my experience. Of course, I can't complain about him ending up with Asa either. Asa with long hair was beautiful

So many anime, not enough time. On top of that I'm mainly a gamer! Yeah, imagine how I am as a gamer considering how much anime I watch. Mindblowing, isn't it?

I just remembered a couple of other good harem anime: Please Teacher and Please Twins.

I suppose Toradora could potentially count as a harem anime as well though.

Yea I surprised that they did that whole dating thing for a few episodes. I was like "uh oh." then when chose Asa I was like "Oh alright. yea. I like her!" I liked her with short hair but long hair is pretty nice :) It took a while to get used to it but I actually really liked it.

I also game! Though not that much because I don't have that much money and I have to buy my own games and things

Please Teacher was my very first anime! I loved it! Actually it was my second because I watched Sailor Moon when I was in kindergarten without even knowing it was an anime. Then I stopped watching it for a while. Then saw Please Teacher (like when I was really getting into anime) so technically it is my first.

Buuuuuut I wasn't much into Please Twins because of the whole incest thing...

I'm pretty sure it is a Harem so yea it counts. I've seen/read it. I liked it.

I have to buy my own games too, have had to for years but it's hard finding and keeping jobs. Still, when I do have a job I make sure I buy a TON of games so I have lots to play when I don't have money for new games. As it is I have over 100 unbeaten games though I've played all of them.

I'm okay with incest, the morality of it does not bother me at all, though I have no interest in practicing it myself. I'm a very...liberal person, you could say. Everyone looks down on incest but I don't see anything wrong with it, except for having children which has been proven to cause major genetic problems. Thus I had no problems with Please Twins, which didn't actually practice any real incest anyway.

Please Teacher was awesome though, especially the revelation about the short girl

and how she was exactly the same as the main character but even older

Side note: She reminds me of Taiga from Toradora.

And that was yet another case of rooting for the underdog. I wanted the human girl to end up with him the entire series but it ended up being the teacher anyway.

If you want downright wacky anime though, try Ninja Nonsense. That one's almost as wacky as FLCL though not as over-the-top.

No, that was the closing song to the greatest anime that ever lived. Yu Yu Hakasho is the beast, and that was my favorite of the four different ending themes.

P.S. Watch it now

I watched about half of the first season before losing interest in it. Sorry. There just wasn't enough in it to hold my interest.

Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star

If you liked both Azumanga Daioh, and Lucky Star, you might want to give Pani Poni Dash a try. It has a similar feel, but much more manic!

Okay, so I just remembered this anime that I saw the first episode of a long time ago: Innocent Venus.

I couldn't remember the name for the longest time, all I remembered was that it had "Venus" somewhere in there. Now that I remember I'm adding it to my anime backlog so I can check it out again. I saw it On-Demand through Comcast so I only got to see one episode. On-Demand had horrible anime update schedules. I only saw about four episodes of Jubei-Chan and only the last half of Witchblade because I couldn't find the rest for whatever reason. That was years ago though so maybe they've improved.

I love the original 13 episode Record of Lodoss War a lot. Have you seen Louie The Rune Soldier (Or just Rune Soldier in some cases) which is a spin-off of it? That's the only other Lodoss War series I've seen.

I can't say I have, though I'll have to check it out in the near future. The original Lodoss War is definitely the best, but Chronicles is still a really good show. It's basically a retelling of the series with a different main character. The original cast still makes appearances in it though. The first thing that really got me into anime was watching Berserk which is probably my 2nd favorite anime behind Lodoss War. Tears to Tiara is also another really good fantasy anime.

  • 2 weeks later...

Eden of the east is a great anime I recently watched. The mystery genre of anime has grown rather stale, but this brings it back to life. The plot has an interesting concept as well. I highly recommend you to check it out.

If you want funny anime then I can help. Like a lot of people have said Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh are pretty funny. Here are a few more funny ones. Nerima Daikon Brothers is funny, watch in english for a good laugh. Hayate the combat butler is also good. Finally this one I just saw at a con, It's called Kill Me Baby. The title is odd, but man is it funny. So check these out and if you want an other anime suggestions then ask me.

Lets try to get some good ones people wouldnt necessarily mention...

Wolf's Rain was a good anime.

Hikaru No Go was also good but very different.

Zero No Tsukiama was another good series.

Read or Die was decent and different.

Ahhh, I don't know if Legend of Korra would count as anime? Would it? Cuz I'm thinking about watching it.

From what I understand of Anime it's not. It and LAB were made in America and the definition is, for anime, made in Japan.

But that being said, It's a good cartoon. If you liked the Last AirBender you will love this since it's a bit more mature version of it set in the future.

Just finished Another and Baccano

Another seems like an ok mystery, but the part where they actually solve it is so cheap and cop out, and basically is magic rather than the culmination of evidence collected. Also I find the ending distasteful, not going into spoilers, but it basically dampened my perception of EVERY character. Also for the first few episodes, it looked like a Death Note wannabe mixed with Higurashi elements, so I'm gonna have to shave some points off for creativity.

6/10, Not that great but not unwatchable if you got spare time.

Baccano on the flip side... I loled irl at some of the moments, and that's not common if you're me, and especially at 2:00 am. Also awesome concept, but unrealistic at times, but I don't think the anime takes itself too seriously versus some others, so its all good. Also, simultaneous triple storyline (or is it quadruple if you count the 1700s part) ftw. It does get violent at times, and has a lot of violence (most violent would be the part where x calls out y's bluff and sadistically bites off y's fingers), so not for the too queasy types.

10/10, I love light and funny animes, as well as morbid and dark ones, so max points.

I would highly recommend watching this. If you were a fan of Avatar the Last Airbender it carries on from that, and they make references to the original Avatar so they keep that continuity. I loved the first season, it was much, much darker than ATLA.

Yep I first watched Read or Die on G4 back when they actually played some anime that were different ones than you would see on say an adult swim. It was actually one of the first anime series I had ever watched. (there were others before like card captors, but this was the first one that got me into the genre enough to seek other anime out).

Read or Die is a lot less "over the top" than most of the anime out there and it has good plot and strong characters and a good mechanic as well with the ability to control paper.

I'm a big fan of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun):

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpP9M_gAE-U

I like its parent series, Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) as well, but it's not as cohesive and the plot feels a bit rushed.

About Cardcaptor Sakura: I grew up with the Nelvana dub, so that's a very nostalgic thing for me. It was okay for what it was - watching it again, some of the voice acting/writing is a little cheesy. (I'll note that New Zealand got the full dub - apparently WB Kids in the US had this horribly mashed together version or something.) The dubbed theme songs were all fairly well done, although Catch You Catch Me was a little... well, forced.
